FInal Fantasy 8, Metal Gear Solid, Front Mission 3, Marvel vs Capcom, Castlevania SOTN, it had such an amazing game line up it was untrue.
Final Fantasy 8 and amazing in the same sentence, this is hilarious!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah, I can't stop laughing! [http://www.spoonyexperiment.com/category/final-fantasy-viii/]
Watched all 10 parts? Still want to call it amazing?
Oh and I've always considered SNES the ultimate console.
Watched all 10 parts and I still call it amazing.
Why?
It's an amazing game.
Got any sort of argument to back that statement?
Alrighto...
For the time Final Fantasy 8 was released it was amazing. The graphics easily blew everything else out of the water (especially the cutscenes, those were like visual blowjobs at the time).
The fighting system was essentially like all the FF games, except for the draw mechanic, which I agree was sort of annoying but never stopped me from enjoying the game. It felt rewarding levelling up and the use of GFs was the best I have seen in any FF game yet (btw you can skip their intros). Each character had clear strengths and weaknesses, which demanded quite some strategy in building your team (especially at the many story moments that require you to split your team). The synergy development system is a bit hard to get into and the use of magic is counter-intuitive to say the least, but if you master it you can really customize your team to your best wishes.
The music was solid, I was pretty young when I played it first and I really liked the 'big choruses' and the 'whahahahah' type of music that Spoony seems to hate. It made the game feel a bit more grand and epic. It definetly set the mood.
The story, while extremely linear like all FFs, was decent. Nothing special, the characters are kind of strange like in all FF games. The main love-plot is sort of useless, but then again this is FF. All it had to do was string together the interesting locales to fight in, and it was competent enough to do that.
The world map has a large scale, it feels good exloring it and hunting for more GFs.
I just think that whenever you approach a game like FF8 (or any of the series for that matter) with too much realism in mind and try to tear it to bits on that ground you just kind of miss the point. His videos are funny and most of his criticisms are valid but definetly blown out of proportion.
Oh yea, the game taught me to read English. It was more succesful at that than the school education system in Germany.
