Avoid the Chibi affect... That always kills an anime for me. Aka the over exaggerated mouths and eyes when a character starts yelling and throws a tantrum or something... There was only one anime that I enjoyed that had that, but it was a comedy so it was expected... It kills a show when the show is supposed to be taken seriously for a good portion of the time.

Like when Mischa in Death Note started going Chibi I was thrown off because they didn't do anything of that sort for 5-10 episodes before that (forgot how many episodes were inbetween the first one and the first chibi reaction of Mischa.)

Also a thing I don't like is when they feel the need to have their characters shout out their attacks as they're doing it... It's something that's suitable for shows aimed at younger audiences but there are a few ones out there aimed at adults that do that, and it's not needed... The visuals alone let us know what they're doing, so why say it every single exact time they decide to perform it? If they mentioned it once or twice before hand in an earlier episode, we'd be able to remember what it was they were doing throughout..

Although a lot of this could be disregarded if you're aiming to do a comedy, or a show aimed for kids, or both, but I'm assuming the latter isn't the case considering you're asking the escapist what THEY like to see in an anime, and we're a wide range from teens to old farts ourselves.

-=No offense to farts or how old they might be. :p =-
Hell yea! Gawd that got old fast, actually i dont want my charecters to have huge eyes anyway. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, The Major is the only one with big eyes, and they make her look nice and their done in a tasteful way. Hell Batou has little tiny eyes.

Genre is Action/Sci-fi fyi. If anyone wants details PM me Im weary of revealing all the details over the vast web.

I have a hunch that I've seen the OP trying this on Facebook.

On topic, I can't really say much, what with different genres and directions, but avoid throwing in annoying characters (i.e Misa, her whole purpose was to "liven up" the cast) or overly long fights. Also, be careful about flashback length. I can't say anything about Naruto, but I remember one in Shakugan No Shana where one episode would be perfect (it was about her liking melon bread), but it extended to two episodes and just got annoying. One last obvious thing, keep your pacing going, one of the reasons Nanoha A's is better than StrikerS is the fast pacing (as opposed to constant training sequences).

I have three things of advice for you:

- Make a decent story; that includes pacing, foreshadowing, maintaining aesops, avoiding moral and value dissonance, and also do not follow the route of Naruto, revolve the series on a character because he is popular...

- Make the artwork match the story; chibis and exaggerated expressions are good for Japanese Comedy and for making things cute, but they do not belong in "serious" work. Conversely, do not draw in a "serious" art style if you are doing something light hearted...

- Maintain proper atmosphere; this has a little to do with the second thing advice a little, but also remember any morals you are toting, this also includes music....god do the music right...

Extra tip, do not plagiarize!
