I'm stuck at work and really wish I was home playing Fallout 3. Anyone pick up the new DLC today? The Pit? If you have, can you post your first impressions? For everyone else, are you excited about it? What new things are you most looking forward to? Basically, this thread is about anything and everything DLC for Fallout 3. Something to pass the time, while I watch the clock tick down to 4PM.

Something interesting that I've been finding over the net is that the DLC is having some issues. First, people are saying that they can't get into certain areas. Crashes exist as well as big time lag (for consoles as well as PC).

The second issue, which is really strange, involves floating exclamation points. Yes, exclamation points. Check out the image below:

It looks like missing objects in the game world? If that's the case...wow, that's horrible. No way they released a game with stuff this wrong with it.

Check over there if you haven't already. Suffice is to say that The Pitt is currently broken. It looks like someone either uploaded an incomplete version (i.e. alpha build) or the files were somehow corrupted when uploaded to Microsoft's servers, or sent from Bethesda to Microsoft.

Bethesda are aware of the problem and are currently working on a fix. Just hold off downloading for a few hours - I wouldn't be surprised if the situation is resolved quickly, because it sounds to me like someone just hit a wrong button somewhere along the line.

Well that's disappointing, I hope they resolve these problems soon, I've been especially looking forward to this DLC for a while. I live less than a mile away from what is shown in that pic.

I already downloaded the file this morning...figures...I'm going to have to redownload the thing when I get home. That is, if they have a fix.

The marks are likely lighting issues as they were in Oblivion too but yellow and black and had to do with lighting, though were harmless aside from breaking the feel.

Still no fix available for the Xbox 360, but keep your eyes on the Bethesda forum and blog. Some PC users report that the DLC works fine for them, but needs to be copied to the game directory and activated like any regular mod.

Actually they weren't because of lighting issues specifically; it just means the game is missing files.

The specific item that triggers this glitch is a candlestick identified as CandlestickFloor01DarkFake. The mesh file for the candlestick has an incorrect path. Prior to the 1.2.xxx patch, the game engine would look in the general Clutter path for any missing mesh files and would find it there; with the patch, the game no longer searches to find the missing file and instead displays its error symbol, namely a yellow diamond with a black exclamation point. This one type of candlestick is the only object in unmodified Oblivion that has this problem. Other than test areas only accessible with Console commands, the only problem candlesticks that can be found are: four in Eugal Belette's basement in Chorrol, two in Fort Hastrel, one in Fort Roebeck and two in Fort Redman.

Well, I got it the second it was available, downloaded it and finished it 2.5 hours later. It's shorter than Operation: Anchorage, but it's at least twice more entertaining. The story is intresting, the quests are different, and the atmosphere of the city is quite perfect for what they are trying to create.

At first I was pissed that it was so short, but it's good.

Ps, it's stupidly hard if you try it on anything else than normal. I didn't have any followers with me, but I suspect they are not allowed into the city at all.

Remember, it also has at least two possible paths through it/sides that you can take, both of which alter the town, and you can return to it afterwards for the repeatable quests.

No word yet from Bethesda about whether or not the DLC will be available today. Apparently they took it off XBOX Marketplace to prevent anyone else from downloading the faulty copy. I hope they get this fixed in the next 3-4 hours because I was really looking forward to playing it tonight.

So, Fallout 3 related question.. Do you gimp yourself in place of immersion?

I usually do my quests in relation to how my character would react, which means I have both regulators and talon company after me.

And I carry around Ol' Painless, Occam's Razor, Wasteland Surgeon's Fatigue, Lucky Shades, and Three Dog's Head Wrap.

How about you guys? Do you gimp yourself in Fallout 3 or is it just me?

Please don't hijack threads.

That's a shame. Hope they fix it. I'm planning on downloading it for PC, I hear its much better than Anchorage.

Wasn't too impressed with Fallout 3... Yeah it was fun to play for a while, but it lacked immersion for me and it got quite boring quite quickly.... DLC only served to increase my dissapointment.

Ahhh good old Bethesda. They can always be trusted to fuck up embarrassingly when they release DLC [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/shivering-isles-bug-breaks-game].

Don't they have anyone there who can actually test this stuff properly before they release it? All the other companies seem to manage.

Yeah, I gotta say that I'm surprised by the errors that their DLC causes. It's like a rain cloud following them post release.

Don't have the cash to get it right now but I am not sure if I will.

I kinda played Fallout 3 to death, then played it some more.
