There isn't one, but that's a good thing.

You can assign your own meaning to life, you don't have to be restricted by some possible preexisting meaning. You get to spend your whole life exploring the intricate nature of life and choose how you perceive it.

my theory on life come from my understanding of Einstein's theory on time (time only exists so that everything doesn't happen at once).

we are just very complex chemistry reactions. we would not be here if it weren't for some incredibly tiny chemical reaction that seeded this planet for life. you are a product of your father who is a product of his father who is a product... everything we are is a reaction of a previous event, and everything we do is a our reactions to current events which only came to pass because of something previous.

(this is all my own opinion)

in short there is no point to life because life is an illusion created by chemical reactions in your body. we are no more alive than the very computer you are using to read this, only vastly more complex.

on the other had there is a famous quote "i think there for i am".
dude seriously your comment has put me in a state of sadness and has given me feelings of powerlessness. i'm gonna go cut myself and post something emo on myspace... nahhhhh just fucking with you (ok the feeling lasted for a few moments)

Don't join the army if you can help it. That's all I'm saying.

Edit: Seeing the great diversity of opinions for this particular topic makes me very, very happy for some reason.

Right now it is 3:30 in the morning in the U.K. Why the fuck am I awake? well I was about to go to sleep when I thought; I am not tired, I'll watch Ghost in the Shell again in anticipation of buying Deus Ex. Of course by the end I could not sleep I was too busy contemplating whether a none biological program could be life ad so on. So this thread comes at the right time.

Funnily enough the answer ain't all that complicated; as self-replicating programs we reproduce to survive and vary. Therefore the purpose of life is to keep living to no higher goal and we achieve that by reproducing in a manner that protects us from biological enemies.

Any other goals or reasons that our developed minds produce are valid, but we must remember that they are merely byproducts of the very basic instinct to help the race as a whole. A person who chose not to reproduce may actually be making the perfectly respectable choice not to pass his genes on, not to say this person is at fault, they might be great people but the variation they provide may not be suitable for later generations. I say this to give an example, homosexuality to us seems to be the product of society, our transcendence of the urge to reproduce in order to do what we find pleasing (be with the same sex) but perhaps it is a biological program and if so it just goes to remind us that everything serves a purpose directly relating to that basic element of the continued life of the species.

I like to think the whole point is just to stand out. You only get one life, so why waste it being normal and boring? Go out and do stuff, experience art, go to a rock concert, eat fast food, go dancing, GTL, bring a flask to the beach, play a good video game, throw your controller on the floor and fist pump when you kill the boss. And then maybe read a book.

I never have understood why people need to be given a purpose. Myself, I have two goals. The first is to have left Earth and humanity in general in a better situation than before. Contribute something to science and technology, or write about something to change the way people view the world, or to simply reduce the amount of psudoscience people believe in. You know some people still believe the Earth is hollow?
The second goal is to be remembered. That simple. To have someone remember me. Preferably many people. Being remembered is the closest thing to immortality we have.

I personally believe the point of life is to just enjoy it while you have it. It can end so soon. At any time, really. So live, laugh, and love.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Feed, Survive, Reproduce...thats the basic one. But since we humans tend to cout ourselves moar then animals, i guess we need to give ourself sum other point to our life - and frankly, everyone has to come up with their own.

To stop people from making topics like this over and over again and getting the same replies over and over again.
