Every female(and a few males) under 17 and within 50 miles of where I live has a die hard obsession with Twilight. Now I could handle this without batting an eye but that's not where it ends....See, they like to compare it(their definition of compare is to make all other things in comparison seem like utter shit) to decent, legitimately good works of literature. I would be more than slightly annoyed at this if it only happen ever so often and only by a few of them but again, it doesn't stop there. Every single one of them has a fanatical obsession and will go as far as to say Twilight is better and more interesting blahblahblahblah than anything EVER WRITTEN. I kid you not.

It's their behaviour that makes me want to stab the author of the damn book(s)in the eye with a rusty spoon.
I quote "It's like the new Romeo and Juliet, but better".

It's an average book and If it doesn't die off after the first crappy movie I'll be next in line with my spoon.

I haven't heard of it either, but I'm in college as well. I saw a brief glimpse of a scene from the upcoming movie and was told it was some kind of fantasy flick. I didn't even know it had vampires or was based off a book series. It's a good thing I do now, though - I'll be avoiding it in theaters when it hits.

If it helps at all, these things are less common after high school.

It sounds like some 13 year old fad. We don't get much of that around these parts.
I kinda hate you now, for not having to go through this... Anyways it's probably there just more low key, at least until the stupider attendees find it, then you will know the pain of Edward "He doesn't F^cking exist so I don't give a f^ck how romantic he is" Cullen.

I actually read Twilight all the way through. I suggest skipping to the end to see the idiot Bella get her ass kicked.

Anyways, as a member of the gender that idiotically likes this book, I have figured out why people read it. It may suck in all aspects of good writing, but it's not like teenagers nowadays can read anything classic. I read Twilight last year. This year I read Dracula. Oh gee, which do you think I enjoyed more? :D

The series looks and sounds ridiculously boring, like Anne Rice-Lite (a scary thought.. ych).

But I might ask something. Is it true the vampires in Twilight sparkle?

In sunlight they sparkle (I've read the books thought they were O.K. but got pissed off at them when people started going on about them) Sunlight doesn't kill them.

Okay, there's trying to be original, then there's I want people to not take this seriously. What the shit was the author thinking?

You have no idea how hard it is trying to explain to people that Vampires can't cross running water or go into a house un-invited! GAH!!!

Vampire's in folklore are deceased people that are seen walking around again.

What you're referring to is Bram Stoker's depiction of vampires. He didn't create the idea of vampires so other authors are free to create their own vampire lore.

It's nothing new that a lot of books written for teens are paper-thin in terms of plot and character personality, I found it easier to just start reading mature books.

That still seems to be the image created by other authors and film makers and is the image I associate with vampires. I have no problem with people creating their own style of Vampires but what pisses me off is when you try and describe the "standard Vampire" and they immediately think your wrong because thats not the way Twilight describes it.

Well, actually there are several different legends about vampires from Central Europe and what the vampires could do differed a lot. But the rules with running water and entering are actuelly present in many of them (and they predates Bram Stoker).

There is a clan of Vampries in Tamriel that have the ability to dissolve into water.
