The power is out...

Read a book, ring up some friends and go up to the golf course for a game, go for a walk around the Lakes, ring up some other friends and go to a pub for a game of darts and a pint, do some writing, ring up yet more friends and get them round for a game of cards, get some housework out of the way, head into town and grab a cuppa at my favourite cafe, invite the neighbors round and have a barbecue in the garden ... ... I could go on, but there's tons of things I fill my free time with that don't require a power supply and I'm not going to go through all of them.

Usually I'll play my 3DS or get some LEGO out. Unfortunately my 'LEGO room' has no windows (it was the attic) so when the power goes out it's almost impossible to see anything in there...

I write porn on my laptop.

...

no really. I have several naughty stories of varrying fetish levels I've written. For no other reason than seeing if I could do it. Otherwise i might take a nap or play some handheld or grab a manga.

I can't remember the last time the power went out at my house, but usually I just take a nap and hope its back on when I wake up.

I keep thinking the power is going to go out during these past few days though. Minnesota weather seems to be more pissed off than usual.
!

Hello fellow Minnesotan! How 'bout that skipped Spring? I loved getting snow in freaking May and rain for the rest of the freaking year...
No kidding. Living in Minnesota, you learn to put up with some stuff, but this is just asinine. At this rate it's going to be beach weather in November.

I had a nasty storm blow through my area a week ago and knocked out the power for 1 1/2 hours. Oddly enough, the cell towers were still working so I just watched youtube on my phone until it came back on. Once it was back on, I found myself at the office making sure thing there were ok......they were not. It was not a fun week for me.

The power went out in my house last week. Played my Persona 3 on my PSP for awhile, before the batteries almost ran out, so I had to stop. So... I went to sleep after that. It was 10 at night, and my parents were using the only lantern we have, so I ended up just going to sleep early. Woke up about 2 hours later to find the power was back on.

I'd give a call to some of my mates and we'd fire up the bbq. After all, if the power's going to be out for an extended amount of time, we'd best cook those burgers, ribs, dogs, smokies, steaks, chicken breasts and bacon up before they go bad. Also, we'd drink beer.

Gotta save the beer.

Otherwise, sleep.

First I watch some movies on my laptop, and then I play some handheld games. If things haven't come back on by that point, I'll read a book. If I get bored doing that, what I do next depends on what time it is.

If it's night, I'll go outside. If it's day, I'll take a nap. If it's snowing though, I'll ignore the time of day and just go outside.

I've considered moving but I have determined that Minnesota weather is the best weather.

It's unpredictable and can be really shitty sometimes but generally, you won't be killed by it :)

East Coast has Hurricanes, West Coast has earthquakes, and the middle has tornadoes! Once in a while in certain places we get floods and snow storms can be shitty if you're unlucky/stupid but in general, we are not going to get killed by weather.

Well I live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. And here we actually have a 100% reliable (elecitrical) infrastructure. So if I'd withness a block / city wide blackout, I might actually start preparing for a zombie apocolips as that is a likely enough cause for such a bizare event.

Last time the power went out over here I just watched UP on my Ipod until it came back on but had it lasted longer I have my books and handhelds as well as a handy notepad and paper to write on.

I read by flashlight or book light or on my Kindle (whose case has a built in book light). That, or I'll play guitar with my battery powered amp. Makes a nice distraction and if it's out fora few days then I can provide a bit of entertainment for people who live around if they want.

Come up to Southern Ontario, Canada. Basically the same except the people are even nicer somehow. The worst we get is a bad thunderstorm/blizzard and those are very rare. Except in hurricane season, we usually get hit with the remnants of them. Then thunderstorms get a little more common but still never all that bad.

Hurrr, I shut my desktop off. I have my cable modem and router on a battery back up. And my file server on another one. So I can use my laptop for hours, and tablet and smartphone for longer. The modem and router will last at least a full day or two on a battery backup.

It really depends on the weather and what time of day it is. If its nice out I would call a bunch of friends and have a bbq/bonfire and if its shitty out I would sit outside under the covered porch and have a cigar while watching the rain.

The power going out for long periods of time doesnt bother me. I go camping a lot so I always have multiple full propane tanks as well as a few jugs of naphtha laying around for the stoves/lanterns. I also have a generator, a chest freezer and a couple of those stupid seven day coolers. Plus I have a very nice supply of alcohol laying around to keep me busy.

Why would your meat go bad?! dig a hole in the ground and cook it for 3 days.. best tasting meat you will ever have :)
Not to mention that as long as you dont keep opening it every hour a chest freezer will keep your food good for several days, especially if you havnt defrosted it in a few months.

Well, I have a ton of books to sit and read, two dogs to take on a long walk, a lot of dvds to watch on my laptop, internet on my phone, my phone itself so I could call friends ot my boyfriend. I have many options there fot me if the power goes out. However if it goes out at night I will sit with a torch and would ptobably call my boyfriend and sit and be a little disttrssed because I am scared of the dark.

I'd just read. Unfortunately, I keep my new books on my Kindle now (carrying around physical copies of those long fantasy novels I'm so fond of can get to be a pain), so my battery time is limited. Thankfully, I've still got plenty of physical copies of books I could re-read. Yet even better, I have a copy of The Necronomicon that I've been saving for just such an occasion.

We have loads of candles, a couple flashlights, phones and tablets and laptops. Nothing to worry about here. If the power goes out I usually end up reading, or playing a board game or just going to bed early if it's dark out.

Or we just go out, if it's day.

Go outside? If it's just the neighborhood, I could hang out somewhere else. There's a few restaurants and stores around here that are always open 24/7.
