A bible is always good bullet protection, especially when the cover is made of kevlar with steel plates beneath it...

that reminds of a story I either heard or saw, can't remember where for the life of me, oh wait it was some comedian or another during the standup showdown, but basically, this guy had a bible under his shirt, and was shot, and the bible actually took the bullet and saved his life.

Well there are lot's of stories about bibles, and even regular books catching bullets. Some are true, some are myths

Maybe I should walk with my copy of War & Peace taped to my chest. That thing is bound to catch some bullets.

Anyone ever see the Simpsons when Homer was dressed like Krusty? Well anyway, the mafia was trying to kill Krusty, who they mistook Homer for and started shooting at him with a rifle.
Flanders was next to him at the time and took a bullet in the chest. He stands up and says, "Good thing I always keep a bible close to my heart."
He is then immediately hit again. He stands up and says "Good thing I was wearing an extra large piece of the true cross today."
He looks around for a moment before concluding, "I think I'll go inside."
These are similar but one is more tragic.
