This isn't about how much chas are ruining England, or corrupt politicians. It's about patriotism, and how it doesn't exist here.

Well, perhaps it does exist, but it's called racism. Anybody who says they love England is somehow a racist and a white supremist. That's why there are never any national anthems sung infront of a flag and with our hand over our heart. In America such jingoism is celebrated - the anthem is sung everywhere, from inaugurations to football matched, and the people genuinely care about their country. Not so much in England, and it's with the (relative) rise of the BNP that this has really become a problem. Now anyone who says that England is great is shot down, and it doesn't seem fair that this shoukd be a problem here.

BNP is a huge problem but I do love England and the Royal Family and it's not just out of blind loyalty.

Well the BNP are extremely racist and have a facist-like mentality. They deserve to be hated and mocked.

As for the lack of patriotism; have you ever been to an England football match?

Our patriotism is replaced by a staggering pessismism and lack of faith in England.

But we love it really!

I completely agree with you, and I feel you did a good job of expressing your view without appearing like a rascist. Its sad that I feel you need to. Its sadder that you can't fly an English Flag in England.
I read a while ago that were allowed to fly them now, but i'm not sure. Still, I think one bit of the problem is that people are disillusioned with the government and by extension the country. It's hard to be patriotic if you have no love for the government or country. Myself, I love Britain but not in a jingoistic way.

the problem has gotten to the point that there is no patriotism in the UK, even the small things, the purchasing, in France French people buy French made stuff like clothes and cars.. in England they buy whatever is in fashion.

really? Only time I've ever seen people who state that they love this country being called racists is when they are in fact being racist by adding things like "These people shouldn't be here, only English people should be allowed to live here"

Patriotism does exist here but its really difficult to show it when you've got people in charge who don't want anyone to get offended. The joys of a nanny state.

WE LOVE YOU ENGLAND. WE DO!
WE LOVE YOU ENGLAND. WE DO!
WE LOVE YOU ENGLAND, WE DO!
OHHH ENGLAND WE LOVE YOU!

They just save it for football matches here (Where it's not racist). I do wish it was a bit more open tho, not quite as rabid as the US mind...that would be cringe-worthy.

One thing makes me laugh about Britain and Patriotism.

The English are english and proud.
The Scottish are scottish and proud.
The Welsh are welsh and proud.
The Northern Irish are....complicated.

The British only seem to exist in the eyes of foreigners. Heh.

England doesn't have a National Anthem...
Actually we do its called 'Land of Hope and Glory'

'God Save the Queen' is the British national anthem but in instance's like the commanwealth games where England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compete seperatly the English anthem played is 'Land of Hope and Glory'

We're proud of it. We love the fact we live here. None of this compels us to stand in front of a goddamn piece of colourful cloth and sing a stupid song at it. What are you expecting the cloth to do? Sing along? Throw some money into an upturned hat for you??

Just because the English are confident enough in their country to not have to sing about the blasted thing every few minutes doesn't mean we hate it.

In the long run, patriotism just turns people into mindless 'holier than thou' countrymen who would do anything for their country without thinking.

For anyone who doesn't know. The BNP are a white only, small minded party of fascists. There main policy concerns the removal of many immigrants from Britain and the blocking of further immigration to our country.

They have slowly been gaining support, mainly in the north of England, since 1987 and recently won 2 seats in the European Parliament.

There ideals are undeniably racist, fascist and it would be a dreadful thing for them to gain any more support.

As for English national pride I don't really know because I'm Scottish and we have plenty of national pride up here!

I couldn't disagree with you more ... It is patriotism not "hatred for other countries". When I watch an England football match I feel patriotism towards the country not hatred towards the opposing side!

This has hit the nail on the head.
