I always thought that it was pronounced "Scrim", ya know, with a silent Y. But i found out its sky-rim. This is my rant, shouldn't there be a space. And further more the name sky rim is really stupid sounding or is it just me?

I don't even...

How could anyone possibly think it's said any other way? What justification is there for the silent Y? It just wouldn't make sense.

Why would the y be silent? That doesn't make any sense.
It's quite obviously just the words "Sky" and "Rim" put together.

This guy gets me. There may not be indication why, but at the same time sky-rim sound completely out of place and stupid to me.

EDIT: I've read some more of the OPs recent comments, and i've decided.

It's.....it's pronounced like it's spelled. What could've made you think otherwise?

Plus Skyrim is mentioned by name in Oblivion many times.

Really, I don't know what else to say.

It has always been pronounced "Sky Rim". And why would you think the "y" is silent? Also, there is no reason to put a space or dash between the two syllables. Should "Mexico" be "Mex Ico"? Or "America" be "Amer Ica"? I hate to break this to you, dude, but it is just you.

Also, I hate to think of what this guy is going to do when he sees the name "Hammerfell".

I think in the game their is a bit of mythology about the mountains linking up to the sky.

So the area is literally the rim of the sky.
Makes perfect sense.

And the pronunciation is Sky Rim.

I played elder scrolls and i never liked it. I love witcher 2 though. And also like fall out games. It still bugs me i dont know why. Sky-rim....... Hate it. I want it to die.

Edit: I am dashing it out of pure hatred for the pronunciation.

Well not so fast. I didn't say it would be silent, I just didn't think the first syllable would sound like "Sky", but rather "Ski-" as in "Skid" or "Skim" or "Skip".

Still two syllables.

Did you know "Witcher" is pronounced "Wit-cher"? I was really surprised when I heard someone say it like that. I always assumed it was pronounced "Razzafraz".

If you hate it why do you care that you cannot grasp the basic fundamentals of the English language?
Also, it's Fallout. One word, like how they wrote it. It doesn't have an 'invisible space' in the middle.

Wtf? Ya.. i am not bad at spelling and pronunciation. Grammar might be a bit different. But this word skyrim just aggravates me, it sounds dumb. I probably been pronouncing it wrong because i was giving it too much thought. THe name sucks.. IMO

I saw mountains in a screenshot and pieced together that Skyrim was referring to the rim of the sky. Or something along those lines, anyway.
Though I'll admit powers of deduction even as simple as this is out of character for me.

'Sky' and 'rim' are words though, so it does make some sense.

Still, mashing two vaguely poetic words together is standard fantasy fare and everyone should be used to it by now.

lol This series is a bit notorious for strange pronunciations.

take "Morrowind" for example. It's not pronounced "(tom)morrowind", it's "more-oh-wind"
