It has always been pronounced "Sky Rim". And why would you think the "y" is silent? Also, there is no reason to put a space or dash between the two syllables. Should "Mexico" be "Mex Ico"? Or "America" be "Amer Ica"? I hate to break this to you, dude, but it is just you.
Also, I hate to think of what this guy is going to do when he sees the name "Hammerfell".

Well "Skirim" is at least somewhat understandable, given that some people do confuse Y and I in pronounciation, but "Scrim" really is weird ...Ragsnstitches said:

It's at least good to hear you acknowledge that it's supposed to be pronounced "Sky-rim". A friend of mine was steadfast in his resolve that it was pronounced Scrim.snake4769 said:
