It has always been pronounced "Sky Rim". And why would you think the "y" is silent? Also, there is no reason to put a space or dash between the two syllables. Should "Mexico" be "Mex Ico"? Or "America" be "Amer Ica"? I hate to break this to you, dude, but it is just you.
'Sky' and 'rim' are words though, so it does make some sense.

Still, mashing two vaguely poetic words together is standard fantasy fare and everyone should be used to it by now.

Its Skyrim, and its perfectly correct to have that be all one word.

lol This series is a bit notorious for strange pronunciations.

take "Morrowind" for example. It's not pronounced "(tom)morrowind", it's "more-oh-wind"
I've never heard anyone pronounce it like that; its the first one.

I always thought that it was pronounced "Scrim", ya know, with a silent Y. But i found out its sky-rim. This is my rant, shouldn't there be a space. And further more the name sky rim is really stupid sounding or is it just me?
It is just you. Everyone else knows how to pronounce it, and likes the title.

And it has been pronounced "Sky rim" for over 5 years now.

Also, I hate to think of what this guy is going to do when he sees the name "Hammerfell".
I am sorry, but those are really stupid examples. And i can say right away, Hammerfell sound a lot better than Skyrim.

I don't mind the misinterpretation... but to think that "Skirim" (like Ski rim) sounds better then Sky rim?

Well "Skirim" is at least somewhat understandable, given that some people do confuse Y and I in pronounciation, but "Scrim" really is weird ...
I am not really awake, but ... do we actually have *any* word with a silent Y?

That sounds more like someone with an American accent trying to pronounce the former. :p
I think you mean Canadian. They're the ones who say "sorry" like "sore-y." And it's adorable.

This is perfectly reasonable, and youre all dicks. You cant say you've known how to pronounce every word ever.

Yes i makes perfect sense for it to be sky-rim, but youre assuming peoples heads make perfect sense out of perfect sense.
sometimes things just fit into brains different.
like "melee". I KNOW its May-lay, but i still think Mee-lee, and i will forever.

It also took me 10 years to find out the witch's name in FF1 was Matoya, instead of the Mayota i first read, and never looked closely at again.

Another one, Skies Of Arcadia. evil country is called "Valua" is that Val-wa or Val-oo-ah?

Btw, above is perfect example. Melee, thats a weird word. I used to pronounce it meelee as well. I learned Maylay a long time ago though. Better example compared to "Amer Ica".... lol..

It's at least good to hear you acknowledge that it's supposed to be pronounced "Sky-rim". A friend of mine was steadfast in his resolve that it was pronounced Scrim.

His reasoning was that he was from Swedan, the land of vikings and that Skyrim was based off the term Scrimmage, which it just isn't.

The first thing I thought about when hearing "Skyrim" was floating rectums.

I hope there's floating rectums.

Here's why I'm willing to give TC a break:

In the topic title, he said "pronunciation" and not "pronounciation". That counts for a lot, I think.

no its not. melee has the little thing over the first e. that makes it ay.
Amer Ica is doing what you are with 'sky-rim'. splitting it into syllables.
