Maybe we can just write a generic list of responses to these people? It's the same thing year after year, and about 2 pages should cover all of the anti-game arguments.

I could only read a little of that article before I had to quit. Seriously, they are using some seriously faulty statements and logic. My favorite was this.
A ten-year-old can purchase an Adult Only (AO rated) video game.
Ok, so does anyone know where a ten year old can buy a AO rated game? For that matter, do you know where I can buy a AO rated game? I've never seen a store carry one. Especially not out in the open. Maybe that's because Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo refuse to license AO rated games on their consoles. But why would the PTC let minor details like facts get in the way of their agenda?
Indeed, these people have broomsticks up their asses, for i have never, EVER seen an AO game in a public retail store. Maybe they should understand that "the billionaire game companies that profit from selling sex and violence to children" [actual quote] uphold very, VERY strict policies when it comes to selling games.
Wait a minute. You mean to tell me that the people making the games are regulating themselves? And they have strict rules to get a game on their platforms? That could never work! Obviously all people would have to do is draw a pair of boobs and a penis and they could publish it on a game console. And all games made for "adults" (read mass murders in training) are bloody, violent, and rife with sex. That's why they are called murder-simulators. What kind of fools do you take the great and mighty PTC for?

Recently I've decided my fellow man is so infuriatingly stupid, it's best to ignore them.

Radicals rarely get their way anyways

Fuck the PTC. They should all go die in a car fire.
Decent argument until this statement. I've mentioned this before... statements like these only throw fuel onto their fire. When you say anything like this, they all look and say "See! We were right!"

It wouldn't be that hard. In fact, I'm with you on this. Every single time anyone comes out and says something stupid like these guys are doing, we should have a pre-written document to show them. All their arguments are the same and all our arguments are the same, so why not just have something already written down, not only so we wouldn't have to repeat ourselves day after day, but to show them that their idea aren't original and are always shot down.

So the question stands, Escapist, how do you feel about "assuming the role of the most despicable people to walk the Earth" merely based on the fact that you play videogames?
Don't know. How did people feel when they were told they were sex-obsessed lunatics for daring to listen to such scandalous acts as Elvis? How did my mom feel when she was, at twelve, told she was a tramp because her mother had died? How did I feel when people said my copy of The Complete Psionics Handbook meant I was a baby-murdering Satanist?

It's just hatred. Educate yourself, learn the truth, and be better than the rabble. Fight against it, don't take it personally.

This type of ignorance is nothing new in the USA at least, back in the 1950s there were bans and censorship of comic books. With pop cultural entertainment and art, some bigoted ignorant parents and other people just seem to pursue censorship, banning and other ways to try to control art and entertainment they do not know anything about.

I'm in complete agreement too. We need a pre-written document for this, something to end this stream of the same responses.
I'm tired of writing the same things over and over.

In stead of creating useless petitions perhaps they should take more time in checking the age rating of games they buy for their children. When I was young, if my mother said I couldn't buy a game because I wasn't old enough, that was that. It's down to parents to decide what is suitable for their children. They wouldn't take them to go watch a Saw film, so why do they insist in buying them violent games?

Lazy parents making a fuss and hoping the government will cover up how much they've screwed up by buying whatever their kids wanted and not reading the bold, black and white label in the corner that said "M for Mature"

How about we send them a mature game so they recognize how they're okay!
How about we just accidentally send them Daikatana so they all die of awful storyline, gameplay, A.I., and glitches.
Or just send them Amnesia: The Dark Descent and watch as they mysteriously all have heart attacks.
Seriously, though. Maybe if you don't want your children playing mature games, you shouldn't buy them in the first place.

More than realizing that children are not the only gamer age...

I'd say they need to learn about a little something called the ESRB... those violent videogames don't fall from the sky; a parent/guardian has to buy that for them. Seriously. It's not dev's or even geek's fault.

Oh, Bravo, i thought i'd be the first to congratulate you on this- but we both know these people don't like their extremely closed minds being argued against with anything as paltry as logic, current retailer policy or simple reasoning

well, here's a letter i have written to them. if you want, copy paste it and email it, one person's email might not do anything, but a couple hundred might...

i doubt any human will read this, but on the off-chance that one does: please check your facts. what little you have displayed on your site is
A: very loosely factually based,
or
B: completely made up on the spot, or to put it less generously, Bullshit.
one particularly egregious example is your completely false assertion that minors can purchase AO games, which, while no law actually prevents this, retailers are STRONGLY encouraged to prevent such sales, and most, if not all, retailers have policies in place to prevent such events (such as firing of employees in breach of these policies). minors clearly under the age of a games rating must have a consenting guardian present to purchase such games.
for starters, any study that is conducted by a non-biased group (i.e. religious organizations), is automatically invalidated, so that throws out about 99% of your "evidence". the remaining 1% is fallacy. i have little hope of crow baring into you this concept, but here goes nothing: games are not just about the violence, sex, and what have you. most games are laughed at and made fun of if it has a over the top level of the above. i apologize that any new concepts scare you half to death, but you should at least try to actually understand them before flinging insults like a angry chimp.

here is my one and only message to you: stop attacking games. they aren't the problem. anything is good is moderation. so, how's about you stop trying to make the government do your work, and think about this: who lets minors buy mature games? the developers, for making the games in the first place? NO. the retailers, for having the games in stock? NO. the parents, who thick-headedly allow their little bags of whine to play games that are explicitly stated to be inappropriate for children of their age, and having been discouraged multiple time by the employees, and actually provide the money for the transaction in 8 out of 10 times? hmm, that's just my opinion, but hey, give it a little thought, if you even have enough grey matter to rub together outside of what you have allocated for dogmatic horseshit.
Oh, Bravo, i thought i'd be the first to congratulate you on this- but we both know these people don't like their extremely closed minds being argued against with anything as paltry as logic, current retailer policy or simple reasoning

Pasted directly from their website:
The players of today's video games find themselves assuming the role of the most despicable people to walk the earth by carrying out mind-altering tasks with realistic graphics. these games reward and encourage violent criminal conduct and, under current laws, retailers are not obligated to impose restrictions on the sale of video games to minors. A ten-year-old can purchase an Adult Only (AO rated) video game.

Lolololol.
Despite the fact that AO games aren't for sale in North America. And even if they were, Sony and Microsoft wont license AO games on their consoles. So if I could buy them I couldn't play them on 2/3 consoles.
