...*drum roll* Sign Language!

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/08/07/valve-researching-sign-language-for-use-in-half-life-2-episode/

Lol seriously though it's actually kind of cool Valves going as far as trying to researching sign language to help further character development. Well now you know why Episode 3 is taking so long! Blame deaf people! =p

Kind of wierd that the first bit of news we get on Episode 3 is sign language but hey at least it's something right?

Edit: God people I'm just joking when I say it's the real reason the DLC is taking so long...I thought that would be obvious but I guess not.

Thank you to the like 5 people who actually went and read the article before posting.

Huh. You know, I think sign language would be more applicable in the context of Gordon Freeman the apparent mute. That way, next time he's ordered to go out and kill Striders with sticky-bombs while having his ass shot off by Hunters, he could tell them to go fuck themselves with stale frenchbread.

WHAT YOU ARE SHITING ME! Alyx better be using this with DOG every time she talks to it, for this delay!

Sounds like they just need a reason to prove they are the best programers. Like, oh we developed our own phsyics engine. Now we made our characters able to preform sign language. Omg look at this, now we gave freeman the ability to READ YOUR MINDS. You dont even need a controller JUST THINK AT THE SCREEN.

Okay, it's really just half-life the movie.

If Valve is researching sign language to use on one of their characters, that means that a new character that's deaf and mute might be introduced. I hope it's worthwhile.

Did anyone actually read the article. The sign language is for Dog and Alyxx so they can talk without making noise. It is not for Gordan.

Personally I don't think this is the only reason for the games delay. Maybe there just trying to make it the same length as Half-Life 2. After All the other additions were a lot shorter by comparison.

There must be more to it than that? Really, I mean how long can it take to program a character to 'speak' in sign language.

Pretty cool. I knew that they did a hell of a lot of research, testing, and polish, but that's above and beyond what I would expect.

No. I think someone else said this before but this is the real reason.

"Hey, Gabe, before we move on to Episode 3, who is GMan really?"

"Who's GMan?... I thought you were working on that..."

"SHIT!!!"
