1. Having bad members is just part on the Internet. Being flooded with the "worst of the worst" should not be a problem since we should always be expecting it.

2. Set a connection speed limit. That does not require us to pay money.

3. Look at the popularity of free PC gaming.

4. Over 80% of the new dashboard is ads, or some self-promo Microsoft garbage.

Granted I don't own an XBox so this can't have to much of an effect on me one way or another.
I've used both XBL and PSN, and I prefer XBL in most every way. The incidence rate of retards is about the same, but at least with XBL I don't constantly get booted from games for mysterious reasons.

And the other examples being used really aren't good ones. Most every steam game is being hosted on a personal server - someone out there ponied up quite a bit of cash in order for you to play the game. Guild Wars on the other hand is free, but you do (or did as the case was) have to pay for content upgrades and you were delivered a relatively light experience (light as in the sheer quantity of content available, not in terms of fun).

Sure, I don't care that much seeing that we gold users get Parties, which in itself is worth the $50.
Its like a tax on stupid people. Seriously, the functions that fall under the banner are not worth paying money for.
Parties in fact ARE worth fifty dollars, and if you're smart, you won't even spend that much. I spend about thirty bucks a year for my subscription. The party system lets you turn single player games into multiplayer. Sometimes me and my friends will just pop in Oblivion and explore the world together. It also makes the little kids on Live shut the hell up for some reason. Also, Live's arcade system is much better than PSN's I hear.

i have to say, your post was full of fan boy rant
it appears your are mocking the poor people, since you say that if it was free then Poor people will come with slow internet speed and lag a lot.well i wouldn't call them poor if they bough an xbox 360,wireless adapter, having internet connection, xbox headphones and the game.you would think that they should spend even more money on Live membership.what if they don't wanna spend more money?
Also where the fuck goes that xbox live money M$ is getting? Why not fix the stupid lag and make it free

The reason Xbox live should never be free is because of the cheap people and the down-right stupid people. If Xbox Live was made free millions of people would flood servers with the worst, laggiest internet connections known to mankind (and Peter Molyneux)! It would be the worst video game crisis since Wii music! It would be absolutely horrific! So I'm fine with paying monthly to have fun with friends that have Comcast and not Crapcast. Do you think Xbox live should be free after reading this?

I'm not poking fun at poor people I'm just saying if you can't pay the fee then don't get XBL and if you have a bad internet connection and play on the PSN your probably the reason I made this thread.
Not to derail your argument, but I'm pretty sure Xbox Live is a yearly subscription, not monthly.
Live can be purchased in months, 3 months, and yearly subscriptions, as far as I know. And if you're really picky, there are 48 hour trials.

Do i detect a hint of fanboyism? but I think i have a good /thread post (but not one that really will end it)

little pubescent pimply faced kids, who feel the need to be powerful online and with mommy's and daddy's little piece of plastic (aka credit card) they will be online. Thats the scourge of your argument.

In longer form, im not saying only 360 has that problem, but the worst kind of users are these, because there are just so many of them. Also saying that those who cannot afford Xboxlive or choose not to, will mess up the community, and ruin servers etc...plenty of other people have commented on that already, so whatever just wanted to put my little piece in.

I have to agree with this unfortunately. I have an xbox and live, but rarely use it because of the unmitigated crapstorm that comes whenever I get on live on any popular game, and sheer desolation on any that aren't. Any youtube search of annoying and Xbox live brings up many movies to support arguments that paying is doing absolutely nothing to regulate the community and add to enjoyment of experience. If it serves no purpose other than to keep Microsoft in cash I see no reason to play, hell the only reason I even bother to keep an XBL account is because of DLC, and that is another charge on top of the XBL charge. To not make it free is pointless and might actually keep decent players away because they might be living on a paycheck to paycheck basis in this economy and can't afford any unnecessary drains on their resources. Good is not rich and bad is not poor, they are simply terms used to describe economic status, not judgments of maturity or ability.

You know after thinking for a second, I think its extremely disheartening as a consumer, to see other consumers asking services to rob them blind for no reason, to the point that they "create" a way to see it as a good thing. As much as it pains me, these companies dont care about us, they care that we buy their stuff and fatter their wallets, and I know that sounds cliched, but the sad thing is its true...if you dont believe me, there is tons of proof out there, just look at some of the stuff wall-mart does.

If anything people should be saying "hey we shouldn't have to pay for live! down with.."

Never...ever...should we be asking to pay more on a regular basis unless something is severely crippled and can only be fixed with more funding

Because Xbox Live isn't already filled with teenagers waiting to outburst their racist and sexistic views on to everyone, eh?

I believe my answer can be found in this thread about "Should X-Box Live Be Free":

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.68405?page=6

Just changing the statement to a negative doesn't make it an original post.

I want them to charge per machine not per avatar you make.

So long as Xbox Silver is still free so I can "update" (patch) the bugs from the last generation of console games, I don't really care about XBL Gold.

Yeah but the PS3 fanbase is generally a lot more mature or at least a lot less annoying twits screaming through the mic. No offense at all but this is just what I've noticed so far..
