Jordan was a bit miffed that Fary was getting all the attention from the group. The hell? She was the one who went off with Rock Dude. She was the one who was latching onto whoever. Not my fault she went off with other people. Tscha.

Ahead of the pack still, he decided if his fellow travelers weren't going to keep him company, he might as well have his bros keep him company. He dug into his pockets and released both Vince and Spike from their balls. "Scyther!""Mankey!", their cries rang out.

"OK there bros, I dunno what you want to do, just do something around here, OK? I need something to like, get my mind off things bros. It's just rough. So yeah, like fight some dudes or something."

Vince and Spike nodded and went off into the trees looking for opponents. Jordan decided to sit down on a nearby rock, thinking about his predicament.

As Terinth watched the others get into battles with the native pokemon, she walked off to a group of trees, and sat down. As she looked up at the tree, and saw a bird pokemon looking at her. She jumped up from her position, and walked a few feet away from it before it fluttered down to the ground, landing with a cloud of dust at it's feet. As Terinth whipped out her PokeDex to scan the creature, another Pokemon slithered up, whipping it's tail back and forth. As she scanned the two pokemon, the PokeDex revealed to her their names.

Pidgey-The Tiny Bird Pokemon
It is docile and prefers to avoid conflict. If disturbed, however, it can ferociusly strike back.
Current moves:Tackle, Sand Attack

Ekans-The Snake Pokemon
It sneaks through grass without making a sound and strikes unsuspecting prey from behind.
Current Moves:Wrap, Leer, Poison Sting.
"Great, two of you. Well, let's get this over with." Terinth said, grabbing the Pokeballs for Puppy and Monk, releasing them with red beams of light. "Come on guys, let's show them how we do it." She said with a look of determination on her face.

"Puppy, use Tackle on the Pidgey! Monk, dash in on the Ekans with Fury Swipes!" Terinth commanded watching her pokemon dash forward. As Monk's attack connected with Ekans, The Pidgey jumped up into the air, causing Puppy to dash behind. As it confusedly ran in circles, the Pidgey came swooping down, smashing into Puppy with it's Tackle. Puppy went reeling back, but stood it's ground.

"Monk, use Fury Swipes on the Ekans! Puppy, use Bite!" As they carried out their commands, They each hit their mark, with their opponent making strong attempts to defend agains the attacks, but they were in vain. As they shook off the pokemon, Pidgey and Ekans were looking slightly beat up. As they lunged forward, Puppy and Monk were unprepared for what was coming. Pidgey landed on the ground and kicked dirt into Puppy's eyes, obscuring it's vision. As it leaped back yipping, pawing at it's eyes. As Monk looked over at Puppy, Ekans leaped forward, coiling it's body around Monk, and squeezing.

"Come on! Get out of there! Get back to the fight!" She shouted, watching as Monk squirmed in Ekans's grasp, and Puppy rolled around, trying to get the dirt out of it's eyes. As Ekans squeezed harder and Pidgey dived in for another Tackle, Puppy looked up at it, eyes now dirt-free, and leaped above it just as it swooped in. As it came down, it landed on the back of the Pidgey, and then leaped up, pushing the Pidgey into the ground with a hard thud. As Puppy landed behind Pidgey, it dashed towards it and knocked it out cold with a powerful tackle.

During this, Terinth focused her attention on Mankey, giving it commands to break itself free from Ekans's grip.

"Come on! Use Fury Swipes! Low Kick! Something, just don't just sit there!" Terinth commanded, watching as it kicked Ekans, causing it to loosen it's grip, allowing Monk to slip out. As it leaped up in front of the Ekans, Terinth shouted out the final command.

"Monk! Put all your energy behind a Low Kick!" As Monk leaped forward with the attack, it connected with Ekans's skull, knocking it out cold. As she walked up to her two pokemon, they almost collapsed to the ground in fatigue. "Rest up you two. You earned it." She said, returning them to their balls. She then returned to where the rest of the group had been and began to watch for more members of the group.

Rochelle didn't fully understand what was wrong with Phoenix as he lay there, occasionally sparking with electricity and twitching. It looked like whatever it was was hurting him. Maybe her Pokédex could help with identifying the problem. On that thought, she pulled out the device and flicked it on, pointing it at Phoenix to see if anything would show up.

Code:
[u]Pokémon Recognised: Spearow. Updates:[/u]
[color=blue]Techniques: Peck, Growl, Leer, Fury Attack[/color]
[color=maroon]Status: Paralyzed[/color]
"Paralyzed... I think I have something to fix that," Rochelle mused to herself, ignoring the change in Phoenix's attacks as she took off her bag and rifled through the pockets until she found four familiar bottles. Two were coloured yellow with the label:

Code:
[u]Paralyze Heal[/u]
Apply entire bottle to the afflicted Pokémon. You should see results immediately.
If symptoms persist, consult a Pokémon Center.
"This oughta do it," Rochelle said to Phoenix as she sprayed the bottle's contents over the Spearow. Almost instantly he stopped sparking, got to his feet and ruffled his wings to straighten out the feathers. "Row! Spearr-row!" he chirped happily, picking at the ground before he flew up to Rochelle's shoulder and nuzzled at her face.

"There you go, fit to fight again, little guy," Rochelle replied to the bird, allowing him to poke at her fingers with his beak. She smiled as she watched Phoenix out of the corner of her eye for a little while. He seemed a little happier now that Rochelle had fixed him up. The Trainer stood up, pack returned to her shoulders, and looked around. Everyone was off battling wild Pokémon... except Jordan, who was seated alone on a rock. Now seemed like a good time to get some answers about what had happened between him and Fary.

Rochelle walked over to Jordan and his rock, sat down beside him and said, "Hey, how goes it?" The phrase was the conversation starter she used most often.

Jordan looked over to see Rochelle taking a seat next to him. "Oh, uh, you know, like I dunno, it's all right, I guess." He heard a cry from a nearby thicket as a Bellsprout came falling out of the bush, unconscious. Vince emerged standing over it's fallen combatant.

"Scyyyyyther Scy! Scyther!" "Swhat you get for hitting me! Who's next?" Vince then ran back into the foilage.

"I dunno, it's...a it's been like, a bit rough and stuff, I guess," Jordan answered finally giving a semblance of a response to Rochelle's question.

After a few more battles, having won against a few Trainers, losing to two of them though, Aeris moved onto having Blaze, Tristan and Ekans fight the Pokemon in the grass and trees. She wondered when they'd arrive at the opening of the cave in the mountain. She wanted to find some fossils if there were any. She didn't know why. Perhaps it was because she'd grown up on Cinnabar Island where the lab was. Whatever it was, she was going to get a fossil, no matter it's type. She was really hoping it wouldn't be a Water Pokemon, but it was still a possibility.

She wasn't really paying much attention to where she went while she watched her three Pokemon battle, and walked away from the others, heading towards Mt. Moon. She wasn't completely out of sight yet. Someone would be able to notice her. Not a hard thing to do, considering the amount of red on her. Besides her jeans, that were blue.

"Ekanssssss." Her Ekans wrapped himself around her leg, keeping close. "Aww, are you a little shy? Must have a timid nature..." She patted him on the head. "Don't worry. You'll be alright with me. You're doing a great job fighting the wild Pokemon." The Ekans stuck it's tongue out to show he understood. "Ekanssss."

Rochelle furrowed her eyebrows when she heard Jordan's second response. Clearly there was more to it than what he had said; it seemed that neither Jordan nor Fary were willing to talk about it. But Rochelle wanted to know what they were both thinking, and get the whole story from both sides. With that information, she figured she could help to make things right.

"Come on, buddy, what's on your mind? You can tell me," she said, hoping to get something more out of Jordan.

Jordan leaned back on the rock, looking for a cushion that wasn't there. Confirming this yet again, he leaned back forward and turned to Rochelle. "I dunno Rochelle," he started. "I dunno why I'm feeling like this. I mean, don't get me wrong, I've had like, a few beach babes down in Fuchsia, like more than a few. But I dunno, I think this one just stung, like I wasn't done, you know? Like, it was so fast but then just a ramp off into the ocean or something. I dunno, but everyone seems to be all on Fary with it and it's like, I dunno, I'm the bad guy here or something. It's just...it's like messing with my mind, you know?"

Jordan put his elbows on his knees and rested his head on his hands. Life was a lot more complicated on the road than it ever was riding the waves.

"I see... Y'know, the reason I was talking to Fary before was because I wanted to see if she was all right. She seemed pretty distraught just before we left Pewter," Rochelle explained, a little concerned for Jordan. "I can guess at what happened... y'know, with Brock and all that. But if you and Fary are, well, gonna stay together, I want to help you two in any way I can." She spoke with sincerity, having no desire to see their little group of Trainers fragmented and fighting amongst themselves.

"I dunno Rochelle," Jordan continued. "I dunno if that's even what I should do right now. I mean, like, I've never been in any real like relationship before, and I totally didn't think I'd be doing one out here. And she's all like, oh you can sleep in my tent, but no, and then ooh I'm going to make out with Rock Dude, and do other stuff, totally. I just I don't think I want to be in that place anymore you know. I think I'm just going to be like free wheeling and stuff. But if she's going to be all crying about it, then I dunno what I'm going to do, like it's going to be like totally rough."

The sun was starting to hang low in the Western sky behind the group. The choice was going to have to be made soon. Keep trying for Mt. Moon and get through the cave all in one night, or set up camp and try to get through the mountain tomorrow.

"Hmm... maybe you two just need to talk it out, learn what you actually want from the relationship and go from there," Rochelle guessed aloud. "Heck, maybe bring Brock into it if you want, just so he sees what's going on as well... But then, I have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm just guessing. Even your time with the girls on the Fuchsia beaches is more than I know of having someone special in your life. Never really thought about that kind of thing until recently, when Fary and I were talking back in Pewter." She shrugged once and smiled for a moment, then put a hand on Jordan's shoulder and got up from the rock they were sitting on. She didn't leave Jordan to his own devices, though, as he still seemed really down about the whole Fary thing.

The sky seemed to be getting darker; maybe it was time to press on to Mt. Moon. Having never been under the mountain herself, Rochelle didn't know the paths and routes that could be taken. Figuring out the mountain's caves could be done at a lighter time of day. She liked that idea: getting to the entrance and camping there for the night, then going in once everyone was awake.

It took a good...well to be honest he lost track of time but just when Simon was about the give up and declare the 'stake-out' futile, the ground he was staring at stirred. Slowly at first. Then rapidly. Then in a cloud of dust and dirt a tan and white head appeared. It was soon followed by two arms with long claws at the end. Bright blue eyes began scanning the nearby area.

Simon brought his Pokédex up to scan the creature as it continued to peer suspiciously around. He placed his thumb over the speaker to prevent the registration sound from carrying.

027 Sandshrew
Pokémon

HT 2'00"
WT 26.0 lbs

Shadow stood rigidly still in the grass beside of his trainer. The Poochyena's tail was raised, and his nose was in the air. A low whine rumbled through his frame but was never voiced. As soon as the Sandshrew finishing climbing out of its tunnel Shadow looked up at Simon.

The trainer looked down then nodded once. "Let's go." he said.

"Chee!" Instantly Shadow broke into a run. He aimed a full speed tackle at the round mouse-like Pokemon. Simon jogged behind Shadow in an attempt to keep up. The trainer's bag made metallic jingling sounds as he moved.

Alerted by Shadow's cry, the Sandshrew's head swiveling in the direction of the oncoming Poochyena. A sharp sound, quickly cut off, emerged from its mouth. It attempted to launch itself toward the safety of the tunnel. But just as it began to move Shadow hit the Sandshrew straight on. Though only four pounds separated the two Pokemon Shadow's attack knocked the Sandshrew head over tail into the grass. It's escape route was now cut off.

Or at least, so Simon hoped as he stepped onto the impromptu battlefield. He felt a little bad for the creature that they'd ambushed. As he walked closer he saw that it was still on the ground. Had they beaten it already? Shadow seemed to be wondering the same thing. He began nudging the downed Sandshrew with his paw.

*Shreea* Sharp claws suddenly raked across Shadow's muzzle.

Shadow's cry of pain was high-pitched and sharp. He backpedaled rapidly, shaking his head and pawing at his injured nose. Another whine of pain sounded.

'Scratch attack.' Simon noted with dismay. He no longer felt sorry for the Pokemon.

"Shadow, use bite." he called.

The Poochyena's answer was to growl and lunge. Rather than face its attacker the Sandshrew quickly curled into a ball.

*Rrrrf* Shadow's bite connected solidly. A muffled cry of pain sounded from the tan Pokemon.

'We need to get it out of that defensive position.' Simon thought. "Shadow use tackle, then try to bite again." he ordered. 'It might work.

"Chee!" Shadow released his toothy attack and lunged at the Sandshrew. There wasn't as much force behind the tackle as the two Pokemon were close together. But it was enough to push the Sandshrew onto the ground. The impact seemed to stun the Sandshrew momentarily as it released its curled position. Shadow gave a cry of challenge and darted forward.

"Watch out." Simon cautioned.

Shadow's paws skidded in the dirt as he attempted to slow down just as Sandshrew tried another scratch attack. The mouse Pokemon managed to clip Shadow's ear but the Poochyena was determined. Ignoring his bleeding ear Shadow ducked under Sandshrew's arm to latched onto the its side.

A cry of pain, almost a shriek, came from Shadow's opponent. Shadow shook his head with his jaw still latched onto Sandshrew's side. Sandshrew gave another cry of pain. It tried scratching at Shadow's head but no amount of scratches deterred the Poochyena. After each series of scratches Shadow would reapply his bite. He did so fast enough that Sandshrew couldn't escape.

'It's a stalemate.' Simon realized. Shadow wasn't going to let go, but he couldn't perform anything other than bite from such a close position. And with Shadow latched onto its side, the Sandshrew couldn't get away or curl into its defensive mode. So what now?

Simon got an idea. But he wasn't sure if it was going to work. 'Alright. Let's try this'

"Shadow, heads up!" Removing a Pokeball from his bandolier Simon threw it at the two combatants.

Due to a trick of the wind the Pokéball landed right on Sandshrew's head. *Shreea* Sandshrew disappeared in a flash of white light.

'Gotcha.' Simon jogged toward the still wobbling Pokéball. By the time he arrive Shadow had both paws braced on either side of it.

Together they watched the Pokéball swivel and shake. The clasp on the Pokéball flashed white, then red, then white again. 'Please. Please. Please. Stay.' Simon crossed his fingers. Just in case it would help. The Pokéball shook a final time, then stilled.

"Yes!" Simon exclaimed happily. He laughed and picked up his startled Poochyena. "We won." he said happily.

"Chee?" Shadow complained. He whined urgently and began to struggle.

"Sorry! Sorry." Simon quickly put Shadow back down on the ground. "Let me see." he said in a quieter tone. The unexpected win had made him momentarily forgetful.

Shadow bent his head and pawed at his nose. Now that Simon was up close he could see the scratches running parallel to one another that liberally covered Shadow's head.

"We can fix that. Hold on, bud. You'll be fine." Simon dug one of his Potions out of his pack and began liberally applying the medicine to each of the scratches. With his free hand Simon scooped up the Pokéball contained the latest addition to his team. He snapped the Pokéball into place then continued with his administration.

Mika stretched and yawned a bit, looking up into the sky and seeing the horizon starting to get orange tinge to it as the sun moved farther into the west. It wouldn't take too much longer to get to the entrance to the tunnel through the Mountain, but he had a feeling that the group didn't want to be travelling through pitch-black passageways in the middle of the night.

His Pokemon were all showing signs of getting much stronger. He smiled at them, seeing them all much more powerful now, and all happy.

"Mmm, we should probably get moving soon, guys... I mean, we're probably not going to try and get through the mountain tonight, but we should still try to cover as much ground as possible before the sun sets... we should try to get to the entrance to the tunnel, then we can set up camp and head through tomorrow morning."

"Dang, I dunno," Jordan answered. "I just, like, I don't think I really want to talk about it, you know? It's like, a mess, and I'm like, whatever. You know? Anyway, like we should probably get moving and stuff." He got up off of the rock. "Come on bros!" he called into the forest.

Vince leaped out of the bushes about a few seconds after the call, Spike appearing shortly after. With them at his side, Jordan lead them, and by extension the rest of the party, slowly up the hills towards Mt. Moon.

[hr]

Darkness at set in by the time the group reached the cave that signaled the entrance to the daunting mountain. The stars were shining above over the clearing in front of it. It was a beautiful night for camping at least.

Jordan stood before the opening into the heart of the mountain. "So are we going to go in here now? We could like probably go in here now right?"

Jordan got an answer to his own question when a flock of Zubat flew out of the cave, right into the surfer. He panicked and tried to fight them off with whatever he had, but mostly it just meant he was flinging pocket change and the contents of his inventory at the Flying-types.

"Ah! Ah dude! Get away!" he cried as he fought them off. Eventually, not sensing a docile target, the Zubat flew off into the sky into the surrounding forests back towards Pewter.

Jordan sheepishly picked up the stuff he had thrown from his pockets in an attempt to ward off his attackers. "Uh.....maybe we should like, just set up camp here tonight I guess, right?"

"I'm fine with setting up camp here, I guess," Tyler replied with a shrug. After Jordan's brief struggle with the Zubat, it was apparent that traveling through the cave right now was a very bad idea. He had no problem with Zubat; in fact, he found them to be quite interesting. However, being the target of a couple dozen Leech Life attacks wasn't the greatest of plans. In any case, Tyler was rather tired, so he withdrew the sleeping bag from his backpack and unfurled it on a smooth patch of ground.

Nobody said a Pokemon journey had luxury accommodations.

"Yeah, here's good. It beats wandering around in the dark for hours, getting lost and waking up with no idea where we are or where the exit is," Rochelle added as she sat down and took off her pack. Having little intention to move that sucker any time soon now that it was off of her shoulders, she leaned up against it and took out her newest Poké Ball while she waited for someone to start up a fire to light the area. She guessed that Mika or Aeris would cover that, since both of them had Fire-type Pokémon.

Rochelle opened up the ball to let out the Mareep inside. It bleated quietly to itself and looked around the place, confused about where it was and how it had gotten there. Then it turned to look at Rochelle, and froze in place. The Trainer wasn't sure of whether the Pokémon was angry at her, worn out from the battle, which was likely, or just plain confused in general. "Hi there," she said gently, inviting it to come closer with an extended hand. "How you feeling? You okay?"

The Mareep remained still, hesitant to approach. Eventually it said a quiet, "Maa," and stepped forward, poking Rochelle's fingers and smelling them. It was slightly warm to the touch. Then it sneezed, another sign that it was still exhausted from the fight against Phoenix. Rochelle recognised this, and rummaged in her pack for a Potion, of which she found four in addition to the one Paralyze Heal she had left. She held out the small purple spray-bottle to the Mareep, who flinched and stepped back, a strange hardness in its eyes. It bleated again, and this time it sounded slightly angry.

"Oh, I see... you need to get used to working with me, is that it?" Rochelle asked as she withdrew the hand holding the bottle, unsure if the Pokémon could understand what she was saying. "Hmm... would it help if I gave you a name? That might work. Um... so which are you? Male or female?"

The Mareep didn't seem to respond to anything that Rochelle was saying. Instead it just looked at her. With little to no idea what to do given that it wasn't responding, Rochelle sat there and looked over the tired Pokémon, hoping it would give her a sign as it occasionally shifted in place or picked at a small patch of grass at its feet.

Mika looked over at Rochelle interacting with her new Mareep... He could tell that the Pokemon didn't take a liking to her right away... that was not uncommon with wild Pokemon being caught, but it still didn't make things easier. Mika walked over to his friend and smiled softly, looking down at the Electric Type and smiling at it.

"Hello there little..." He paused, having realized that he did not know the gender yet. He stopped and took a short little walk to the Mareep's hindquarters, and stooped down and rested on his knees, looking at the Pokemon's underside. "Little guy." He smiles and gets back up brushing the Pokemon's ears. "You be a good boy for miss Rochelle... I don't want to have Bones here help her put you in your place." He smiles and indicates his Canine Dark-Type Pokemon.

"It's a nice Mareep, Rochelle... He's nice and fluffy. Mareep's wool make's nice clothing, especially if you keep it clean. Looks strong, too."

Simon walked a short distance away from the group to find a comfortable spot to camp. He found a good solid tree with some short grass beneath it. From his pack Simon withdrew his sleeping bag, flashlight, and the torn shirt he still needed to get mended. While the shirt didn't function well as a garment anymore as a pillow it was somewhat decent. Simon used his flashlight to rearrange the items in his pack. He pushed the Potions away from the Repels and made sure his collapsed bike wasn't on top of anything important.

Simon debated briefly over removing his bandolier of Pokéballs, but decided that just in case something happened he wanted to be prepared. Plus it wasn't uncomfortable to wear. As long as he slept on his back. After he finished reorganizing his stuff Simon shook out his sleeping bag and sat down on top of it. The formerly fluffy camping equipment was a bit flattened because of being rolled up all of the time. But it functioned.

Shadow claimed his spot at the end of the sleeping bag, curled up into a ball, and closed his eyes. The sight was so familiar that Simon smiled briefly. Beneath a mountain or in the middle of a field, Shadow seemed to always find his 'spot'. Simon leaned forward to carefully pat his Pokemon. "You did well today." he said quietly. He received a brief tail wag in response. Followed by a yawn.

"I dunno if you could say that," Rochelle mused in response to Mika. "I mean, I only just caught him, and I know that Mareep can evolve into a different Pokémon later down the line, so... I guess how strong he can get really depends on how well we work together." She mentally noted that it might be difficult to raise four different Pokémon at once, especially if she wanted them to be more or less equal in strength.

So her Mareep was male. Now Rochelle needed a suitable name for an Electric-type, though she wanted to avoid clichés like Sparky or Lightning. Something similar to the names she'd given her other Pokémon would work. As she mulled over these thoughts, the Mareep moved a little closer, sniffing at the grass near Rochelle and poking at her shoes with his nose. "Careful there, mister," she said to try to get him to back off a little. It had little effect; perhaps he recognised the words, but didn't understand their meaning. Either way, the Mareep stopped examining her shoes and went back to grass-munching.

"What shall I name you, I wonder," she said to the little creature. A little short on ideas in English, besides 'Wattson' which was a bit of a cheap pun on the word 'watt' used in electronics, Rochelle started thinking over the snippets of other languages she had occasionally heard or looked up. 'Iskra' was Russian for spark, and 'Molniya' was 'lightning' if she remembered correctly. Those two sounded pretty cool, so she said them under her breath to get the sounds right before looking at her newest Pokémon. "Got a couple of names for you, buddy. What do you think of Molniya?"

At the mention of a possible name, the Mareep looked up from his eating and blinked. He seemed to be thinking it over. "Okay... how about Iskra?" Rochelle added. The sheeplike Pokémon cocked his head to the left slightly at that one, pausing momentarily before he nodded definitively.

"Iskra it is then. Welcome to the team, bud," Rochelle said with a smile as she rummaged through her pack. She found a pen and the small pack of stickers, on one of which she wrote the new name. She then pulled out Iskra's Poké Ball and stuck the label down.

The stars above the little clearing shone as bright as they could as the group settled in after another long day. It was beautiful weather, no need for a tent or anything. The fire was lit, it burned, casting an orange glow over the travelers as they all drifted off to sleep, one by one.

[HEADING=2]Day 4[/HEADING]

The sun peeked over Mt. Moon, the chirping sounds of Pidgeys and Spearows could be heard to greet the morning. There was a slight breeze blowing through in front of the mountain. The fire had burned down to nothing but embers, but little wisps of smoke could still be seen coming off of the remains.

Jordan was first up, for a change. As he rose from his sleeping bag, he looked over at the others. Pokemon and trainers alike were still out of it. Dude, I don't even know what to do now. Are we like heading through the mountain now?

Aeris felt the wind on her face as she woke up. She opened her eyes slowly and sat up, having lied beside Mika. She smiled as she looked at him, and got out of her sleeping bag. Blaze, Tristan and Ekans were sleeping near Mika's Pokemon, Ekans lying in a circle around the others. Blaze woke up when Aeris was packing her sleeping bag.

Once that was finished, Aeris nudged Mika a bit to wake him up. "Come on, sleepyhead. Time to find some fossils, if we can find any." She kissed him on the forehead and nudged him some more.

Blaze woke up Tristan and Ekans, and all three of them went over to Aeris and Mika. It was kinda funny how they traveled differently. Blaze walking, Tristan flying and Ekans slithering.
