"You're in trouble now, kid." a single uniformed Rocket member broke off from the group and approached Simon.

"Hey!" Simon replied, somewhat offended. "I'm not a kid." At Simon's feet, Shadow growled at the stranger with his tail swishing angrily from side to side. Simon scowled at the man. "Come on, Shadow."

The guy, Simon decided to call him Grunt, laughed and drew out a dark-colored Pokéball as he stepped into a small clearing made up of stalagmites and boulders . The Pokéball he held had been painted the same colors as the Rocket's uniform. "How cute", the man commented sarcastically as he toyed with the small sphere, "you named your Pokemon. Hah!" He threw the Pokéball onto the ground. It flashed red before revealing a Rattata. Though small in comparison to Shadow the mouse Pokemon emerged with its fangs bared, ready for battle. It began to claw at the air impatiently. Simon noted that the Pokémon's fur was matted and a lot of scars covered its back. It reminded him of the Sandshrew they'd battled earlier. Only...worse...somehow. With a slight shrug Simon tossed a Pokéball onto the ground. "Brynn, let's go." he called.

*Shrra* The Sandshrew appeared quickly and turned toward her opponent. It was a good sign, Simon thought. Now to begin with the right move...

"Brynn-"

"Rattata, Quick Attack!" Grunt quickly cut Simon off.

"Ratt!" The mouse Pokemon blurred and then disappeared altogether. It reappeared on a rock three feet away. Then again on another rock. Then back on the ground.

"Wait." 'That wasn't fair!' Simon complained. Grunt smirked and crossed his arms over his chest. Simon sighed, discarding the rest of his half-formed protest. 'I guess these guys don't deal with 'fair' very often.' The trainer tried to keep his gaze on the opponent's Rattata but kept losing sight of it as the small animal darted back and forth. 'Gotta slow it down...' Simon decided. It was hard to hit what one couldn't see.

"Brynn, Poison Sting." Simon called. He said it quickly, just in case.

"Shrra! Srrrrrrrrr" At a lumbering gait Brynn charged the Rattata, her claws dripping with dark poison. Rattata altered its course immediately, trying to evade the sharp claws. It careened off of a rock and shot towards its owner. "Shrra!"

But it wasn't fast enough. Brynn's claws raked across the Rattata's back as it passed. The Pokemon shrieked in pain and tumbled to the ground. Brynn paused but when the Rattata remained unmoving she retreated towards Simon. Grunt moved forward with a scowl on his face. He raised his foot but paused mid-motion with a sudden glance at Simon. He gave the trainer a strange look before glaring down at the fallen Pokémon. "Hey!" the man barked, lowering his foot to the ground.

"Raaaaa." the Rattata answered.

"Get up." Grunt snarled. "And use tackle. Now." Grunt took another step forward, this time in Simon's direction. The trainer tensed instinctively wondering if perhaps the Grunt was going to follow the command himself.

The Rattata struggled to its feet. It took a step, and then another, and broken into an uneven run. Its speed was visibly reduced. Grunt seemed satisfied with the movement and turned his attention back to the fight. It wasn't much of a Tackle. Tired, injured, and probably still sick the attack seemed to do more damage to the Rattata than to Brynn. The Sandshrew turned without effort and took the attack without being moved.

"Brynn, try sand attack." Simon called. 'It shouldn't take much...' He was surprised the Pokémon was still moving. Moving only sped up the poison. A second thought struck Simon 'Why isn't he curing his Pokémon?' he peered across the save at Grunt, who seemed to be getting mad again.

"Shrra." With plenty of dirt around creating a mini dust cloud was easy for the Brynn. She spun her own body, causing a blast of dirt filled wind to speed toward her opponent.

"Rat. At. At. Ta." The Rattata cried out in pain each time a chunk of debris impacted its small body. It spun helplessly for a few seconds until the cloud dispersed.

"Raaaaaa." With a final cry the Rattata collapsed to the ground and curled in on itself. Its eyes closed though it continued to make quiet wheezing sounds of pain.

"Good job, Brynn." Simon congratulated his Pokemon in a subdued tone. The Rattata was beaten but it was also very sad looking in its curled up state. Brynn scratched dirt towards the Rattata before waddling back toward her trainer. She accepted the offered Pokémon snack with dignity before vanishing into her Pokéball.

"You dumb punk!" the Grunt stomped his foot on the ground in anger. The man's face turned red and the hand that held Rattata's Pokéball began to shake. If he had a hat Simon was sure the man would have thrown it to the ground.

"Am I a kid or a punk?" The trainer muttered. Feeling a bit of bravado rush up from the victory he called back to the angry man. "Is that all?" Simon asked.

Abruptly Grunt stopped his tantrum. "No!" he spat. Literally, spittle flew from the man's mouth and disappeared into the dirt. Simon recoiled in disgust as Grunt drew another Pokéball out of his pocket and threw it to the ground. It hit with enough force that dust rose up from the impact area. With his other hand Grunt returned the Rattata. He shoved the Pokéball into his pocket without comment.

"Droowww?" When the dust and flash of light cleared a Drowzee was sitting on the battlefield. A large Drowzee. Whereas the Rattata had been small for its species this Pokemon was well past the average weight. It had the same scars across its chest and arms though. Several of them were pink and looked recent. And...it looked like there was a hole in its ear. 'What is that? Simon wondered. He tapped Brynn's Pokéball against his leg while debating his next option. The Pokédex he'd pulled out when digging for Brynn's victory snack beeped twice.

DescriptionIt can tell what people are dreaming by sniffing with its big nose. It loves fun dreams.

"Hmm...Shadow." Simon said slowly.

"Chee!" Shadow bounded forward, his tail held high, without waiting for Simon to finish. Halfway to the Drowzee Shadow turned his entire body around and tilted his head at Simon. "Chee?" The cry was almost sheepish. But Simon just laughed quietly. "Alright." he relented. "Your turn, bud."

"Cheeeee..." Shadow padded the last few steps forward.

The Grunt seemed to have recovered from his defeat rather quickly. He was now grinning widely. The smug expression was beginning to make Simon uneasy. 'He's so weird...'

"Drowzee. Use Hypnosis. Now." Grunt demanded. The Pokemon flinched before stepping forward and raising both of its arms. "Drowww." it began in a slow murmur. Its arms moved in a series of half-circles. "Ch..ee?" Shadow staggered to right. Then he leaned to the left. And then the Poochyena yawned audibly. "Yeeen...." finally Shadow collapsed to the ground in a small heap. Simon frowned and walked closer. A few feet away he picked out the faintest sound of...snoring.

'Aww, no.' Shifting his weight quickly Simon dropped his pack to the ground and began shoving items aside. 'Awakening...awakening...' He knew he'd seem them in the shop...he'd bought at least one. He shifted more items. Potion. Potion. Antidote. He'd bought awakening...hadn't he?

"Have you had enough, boy?" The Grunt taunted. The arrogant Rocket shuffled his feet in an approximation of a dance. Or maybe it was some kind of bizarre ritual.

"No!" Simon replied as he continued his search. Finally he located the appropriate small yellow bottle. 'Gotcha!' The trainer stood and started towards his Pokemon with the medicine in hand.

"Ah ah ah..." Grunt held up his hand and shook his finger at Simon as though he was a disobedient schoolchild. "Get any closer and this battle's over." Grunt drew his jacket up a bit and tapped something at his side. "You won't like the next battle. Trust me." Simon froze when that something gave off a metallic sheen. 'Not good.' This was Team Rocket. He couldn't forget.

Simon stepped back carefully and hefted the container in one hand. Designed for more than one application, there was a fair amount of liquid in the bottle. 'It might work... He hoped.

Gripping the lid Simon twisted the molded plastic sharply. The cap on the bottle snapped with a tiny sound. The trainer tossed the broken lid into his pack and threw the bottle underhanded towards his fallen Pokemon. The thin plastic bounced upon impact, spraying the medicine on the nearby rocks, the ground, and directly across Shadow's muzzle. 'Bullseye.' Simon sighed in relief. 'Come on....come on....' He began willing Shadow to rise. He raised his hands up as though he could pick up his Pokemon from a far. The trainer waited....and waited.
But nothing happened.

"Shadow. Shadow! Wake up!" Simon yelled and then he shouted. His voice cracked in his panic. 'Come on!

"Drowzee. Use Pound. Now." The Grunt's voice by contrast was almost gleeful. He was entertained by this. Simon glared at the Team Rocket member before focusing on Shadow again. 'Come on...come on....wake up!' he pleaded.

With nothing to stop it's mass the large Drowzee collided with Shadow's smaller body sending the Poochyena into the air. Shadow's body hit the cave wall and fell to the ground.

'Damnit!' "Shadow!" Simon left his pack on the ground and sprinted towards the spot where Shadow had fallen.

"I told you-" Grunt began.

"I don't care!" Simon retorted angrily.

"Stay back, kid" Something clicked but Simon paid the sound no heed as he continued moving towards Shadow.

"I'm not-" Simon grabbed a chuck of rock and turned toward Grunt.

"I said stay-" Grunt raised his weapon.

"-a kid"

"-back!"

And without sound or warning, white light surrounded them both. Simon threw up his arm instinctively while the Team Rocket member cowered and then tried to point his gun blindly. Grunt snarled in irritation. "That the-"

"Shadow!" Simon couldn't see but he knelt down and carefully edged forward with his hand on the ground. He squinted and made out the hazy outline of his friend and Pokemon.

"Yen!" The answering cry started out normal and then became distorted. 'What's going on?' Simon wondered, now fearing for his Pokémon. Now that he had something to move towards Simon stood and resumed walking. The terrified Grunt remained where he was, flailing his gun about like a club.

Gradually the glow dimmed. Simon could see the cave walls, then the nearby boulders. And finally, the outline of...something. Something a lot bigger than his little Pokemon.

"Sha...dow?" Simon asked warily.

"Yen!" The cry was deeper, and rumbled more, but it was with puppyish enthusiasm that Shadow greeted his trainer. Simon was rocked back onto his heels as Mightyena plowed into his leg.

"Hey...bud." Still blinking spots from his eyes Simon scratched absently behind Shadow's ears. It was...easier now that he was taller. "You...you evolved." he said.

"Yeeen." came the satisfied reply, accompanied by a pointed nose pressing into Simon's stomach. "You're hungry?" Simon guessed. "Might." Shadow answered.

"Boy!" A harsh voice brought them both crashing back to reality. "We're not done yet, yanno"

"Mi!" Brushing past his trainer Shadow took three steps and launched himself into the air.

Grunt was too startled to do anything but yelp as eighty pounds of angry Pokemon slammed into his chest. The gun flew from Grunt's hand and clattered against some rocks nearby. Slobbering generously onto the man Shadow continuing to growl with his paws on either side of the man's fallen body.

"Nice...doggy?" Grunt squeaked.

"Rrrrr"

"Shadow...hold on..." Simon huffed as he reached the two, his pack slung over his shoulder once again. He looked around for the Rocket's gun but didn't see it. There was a Pokéball nearby though. And empty Pokéball.

"Hey, where did that Drowzee go?" Simon wondered.

"Prob'ly ran off." Grunt muttered from beneath his furred captor. He started to get up but was knocked back down by a heavy paw and sharp teeth.

"...why?" Simon asked. To his surprise he actually got an answer. It may have been the teeth snapping next to the man's ear but the Grunt was sullenly cooperative all of a sudden. He nodded toward the Pokéball on the ground. The one that was painted black.

"We trade 'em off. For training. Or for exercise. Or for money. That un...that un's broken." The man shifted slightly. Shadow's growl made him pause again.

"Broken?" Simon echoed in a confused tone.

"Broken." The Grunt repeated. He made a noncommittal sound. "Don't like to listen. Had to make it obey. Took forever for tha strappin' to work. Still. It's worthless anyway. Keeps running off in the middle of battles." The man's voice trailed off as he began to lose focus of the conversation. "Damn rookie cheated me..."

'Strappin'....' It was a term Simon had heard only once before. When his father talked about how the dockyards used to be run. But surely they didn't....they couldn't..."You beat your Pokémon?"

"Heh..." The Grunt smirked. "Only way to get it to listen." He chuckled quietly, apparently humored by something he remembered.

Simon was speechless. The scars. The open wounds. The way they kept fighting. It made sense now. They hadn't been trained they'd been tortured.

"You...you stupid arrogant...raaaa!" Shadow jumped backwards as Simon hauled Grunt to his feet. Before the man could get his balance the trainer hit him with a solid blow to his jaw. Then another to his face. Simon shoved Grunt into the cave wall.

"What is wrong with you?" He yelled.

"Zeee"

Simon froze, his fist raised and ready to deliver another blow. His free hand gripped the Rocket's uniform, keeping him in place.

"Drow..." From the shadows of a nearby boulder, Drowzee appeared. It was dragging something on the ground as it moved forward. Something metal. The Rocket's gun.

Grunt huffed and spat blood onto the ground. "Knew it'd come back. Brought my gun too. 'Bout time you little-yaah!"

Sharp canine teeth were suddenly latched onto Grunt's leg. Showing his first sign of intelligence Grunt chose to remain silent.

"Ze. Drow. Zeee." Drowzee dropped the gun and began talking, using its short hands to emphasis something. But Simon couldn't understand. Shadow released Grunt with a growl and padded over to the battered Pokémon. Drowzee hesitated as Shadow approached and its arms dropped to its side.

"Miiiight." Ducking his head down Shadow batted Drowzee's Pokéball towards him. Which seemed to calm Drowzee down.

"Dro. Zee. Zee." he finished.

Shadow tilted his head, then turned back to Simon. Grunt had given up struggling and was now trying to staunch the flow of blood coming from his lip.

"Yen." Was Shadow's simple answer.

Drowzee nodded and picked up his own Pokéball. He brushed dust off of the sphere. Along with the dust came several flakes of paint. When he was satisfied with the Pokéball's condition Drowzee approached the two humans.

"Drow!" The Pokémon said firmly, pointing at Grunt. Simon looked at Grunt, and then at the Pokémon. "I don't understand." he said quietly. There was no way he was letting the man go. Not with the gun and the defenseless Pokémon so close.

Grunt chuckled silently but Simon ignored him and altered his grip on the man's uniform. Drowzee shrugged and began muttering quietly. It raised its arms and began moving its hands in a vaguely familiar set of motions.

"Hey! Hey know cut that out." Grunt broke his silence again, apparently knowing more about what was going on that Simon.

"Uh....Drowzee?" Simon said cautiously.

The Pokémon ignored both men. Simon tensed and prepared for...something. Grunt began hurling obscenities and struggling against Simon's hold.

"Don't you do that, you hear? I'm the trainer! I'm the master! I didn't tell you to do nothing you stupid little...Do you know what the chain of command is? Huh? It's the chain I go get and beat you with to show you...to show you who...." Abruptly the man Simon was holding became deadweight. Unprepared for the sudden change Simon released his hold and Grunt dropped to the ground. Drowzee snorted and lowered its arms to its side again. Shadow padded forward to sniff at the man curiously.

"Um...okay." Simon prodded Grunt with his foot. The man was out cold. "That works..."

It took a few minutes to find his knife but after sectioning off a bit of rope Simon managed to tie the unconscious man's arms behind his back. Just in case. Simon shouldered his pack and pulled out his Pokédex.

"I never did get you scanned, bud. Here..." He pointed the device at Shadow.

NameMightyena
ClassificationBite Pokémon

DescriptionIt chases down prey in a pack. It will never disobey the commands of a skilled Trainer.

"Huh." Simon scrolled down to read all of the information. "Shadow it says here that you- Woah!" the energetic Pokémon jumped onto his trainer, sending them both to the ground.

"Yen?" Shadow licked his trainer's neck and poked his nose into his chest.

"Shad-ow..." Simon coughed and pushed at the large body trapping him on the ground. "You're too big to...augh. Shadow...getooff"

The Mightyena huffed loudly in amusement but rolled to one side to let his trainer up. Simon stumbled to his feet, brushing fur off of his clothing before grabbing his pack from where it had fallen.

"It say you chase things in a pack." he said with a laugh.

"Rrrrr?"

"It's what it's says...don't ask me for details."

"Miii..."

"Hmm...well Brynn and Pen are kind of your pack... "

"Yen!"

"Of course me too..."

Throughout the exchange, Drowzee's head turned from human to Pokémon and back again.

"Droww?" it asked, somewhat confused.

Simon's amusement faded as he looked down at the scarred Pokémon. He glanced over at Shadow, who whined softly and pawed at the ground. More specifically he pawed dirt in the direction of the unconscious Grunt. 'I can't just leave it here..." Simon mused. But this wasn't a wild Pokémon he could capture. 'What do I do?' Simon turned to glare at Grunt. 'It's all your fault...' He turned back and noted then that Drowzee was still holding its Pokéball close to its chest. 'Maybe...maybe I can. It's worth a shot.'

"You know...if you want." Simon said slowly, kneeling down on the ground to reach Drowzee's level, "you could...come with us." Simon pointed to himself and then to where Shadow was still standing. He made a circle with his hands, encompassing all of them, and then pointed to the nearest exit-looking area.

"Miight. Miii. Yen." Shadow added.

"Zeee?" Drowzee spun the Pokéball in its hands. A lot of the black paint had been scratched or chipped off due to its actions. The faintest hint of red was now visible.

"It's okay." Simon said soothingly. His pack was beginning to unbalance him. And the rocks on the ground were now digging into his shins. But Simon remained still. Waiting.

Shadow had no such inclination. He padded forward and settled himself down next to the indecisive Drowzee.

"Yen!" Shadow's tongue lolled out and he whined softly. Simon recalled that the Pokémon had been hungry. "Alright...hold on." Still kneeling on the ground Simon pulled out a Pokémon snack from his pack and tossed it gently to where Shadow lay. In two bites the snack was gone.

"Drow?" Drowzee's muzzle twitched and it looked down where Shadow was still sniffing for crumbs on the ground.

Simon dug a second Pokémon snack out of his pack and held it out as far as he could. "You can have one. If you want." he said.

Drowzee looked at the outstretched hand and sniffed lightly. It tried to shift its Pokéball to one hand but since it wasn't minimized the sphere was too big. Drowzee made a quiet sound, a rough groan that made Simon frown. He hadn't meant to bother the Pokémon.

"Zee." In two quick steps Drowzee took the snack from Simon's hand. It dropped the Pokéball at its feet and kept it there by shuffling to one side. It took Drowzee a couple of seconds to devour the snack. While it ate Simon shifted his feet so that he was sitting on the ground comfortably.

"Droww..." The Pokémon sniffed and made the first happy sound Simon had heard from it. He grinned and wiped crumb remounts off of his hands. "Glad you liked it." he replied. Simon pulled his pack shut and spun it around for god measure to make sure it would stay shut. Something bumped against the trainer's leg as he was securing the second shoulder strap. "Hold on bud, I-"

"Zeeeee." The hesitant noise wasn't what Simon was expecting. He turned to see Drowzee with its ears down and it's hands outstretched. And carefully held between its hands was Drowzee's Pokéball.

"Why are you..." Simon stopped and cleared his throat. "Are you sure?" he asked. Simon reached out and put his own hand underneath the Pokéball but made no move to take it from the nervous Pokémon.

"Zee!" This time the utterance was firm and decisive. The battered and darkened Pokéball dropped into Simon's hand. The trainer carefully minimized the Pokéball and closed his hand around it. "Thank you." Simon said distinctly. Very carefully he set his hand down on Drowzee's head. Just for a second, then Simon stood up and shouldered his pack. Making sure that Drowzee could see him Simon snapped the Pokéball into his bandolier. There were flecks of paint left behind on his hands. Simon brushed them off but made a note to have the Pokéball cleaned. It certainly wasn't Drowzee's choice of color. As an afterthought Simon carefully picked up and emptied the Rocket's gun. He tossed the magazine into one pocket of his pack and wrapped the gun up in his torn shirt, shoving the combined bulk as far into the pack as it would go. 'Need to find an Officer Jenny to give these to when we get out.'

"Alright guys." Simon said with a brief smile. "I think it's time to go."

"Miiii"..."Droww."

Sorry for the huge delay in posting, life's been f*&!ing me over as of late. Trying to get shit back together to the way it used to be. If you would like me to leave and swap out with one of the two newest people, I fully understand and will leave as soon as we get out of the Mt. Moon section.
As the group came upon the battle unfolding between Rochelle and Tyler, Terinth saw the last seconds of it. But she was more focused on the large group of Rockets emerging from behind the battle. She ran off to the side, hoping one would come after her, and she was right.

"Hey, why don't you just save yourself the trouble and run home to mommy?" The Rocket grunt taunted, peaking Terinth's anger. She threw her pokemon out, and he did the same, revealing a lone Koffing.

"What disgusting thing is that?" Terinth asked, pulling out her pokedex to scan it.

Height: 2'00"
Weight: 2 lbs.
Lighter-than-air gases in its body keep it aloft. The gases not only smell, they are also explosive.
"So, you're a floating gas can?" Terinth mused, putting her Pokedex away. "Well, soon you'll be an unconscious one." She said, turning to her Pokemon. "Monk, use Fury Swipes! Puppy, use Bite!" She commanded watching as her Pokemon leaped forward, following her command. As they neared in on the Koffing, the grunt shouted out his command.

"Koffing, use Smokescreen!" He shouted, and watched as thick, black smoke spewed out of the holes in the pokemon's body. The pokemon charged through the smoke, but when they emerged from the other side, the Koffing was nowhere to be found. As the two pokemon, looked around, the mass that was Koffing came from behind and slammed into the Mankey, sending it flying a few feet ahead. As the Mankey got up, Terinth shouted out, "Do the same again, it's out in the open!" As they leaped towards the Koffing, it couldn't escape fast enough, and Lillipup latched on and allowed Mankey to fly forward, swiping furiously at the Koffing, each blow landing. As the Koffing reeled back, it shook Lillipup off, and listened for its next command.

"Use Poison Gas on the Lillipup!" The grunt commanded, watching with glee as the Koffing sprayed the gas right in the small Pokemon's face, with Lillipup leaping backwards, scratching at its face trying to relieve the pain from its mouth and eyes, to no avail. As the Koffing was floating above Puppy, it was caught off guard by Terinth's next command.

"Monk, use Tackle! Lillipup, jump up and bite Koffing!" She shouted, looking on as Monk leaped forward, swinging it's foot forward, resulting in a hard impact om the Koffing, sending it into the Bite of the Lillipup. It was on the edge, and was unable to focus on the grunt's repeated shouts of commands, ranging from Smokescreen to Assurance. But it didn't matter with the final command Terinth gave, a Tackle attack. Both of the Pokemon leaped up and slammed into the Koffing, sending it back to its owner, who promptly put it in a pokeball and began to run away.

"Not so tough now, are you?" She shouted out at the grunt, running out of sight deeper into the caves.

The Rockets split up to take on the unwelcome intrusions, none of them noticing that two had slipped away, making things an almost even fight.
A pair of the Rockets decided to take the slimy way out and prey on one of the perceived weaker members of the intruders. Fary put up a tough front however.

"Nowhere to run for you, Barbie!" One of the grunts pointed out.

"Barbie? Fuck you!" came the reply.

"Hah, this will be like child's play!" The other stated. Both grunts released their Pokemon. From the bursts of light emerged a Machop and a Koffing, they both looked ready for action, be it against a Pokemon, or against Fary.

"Hey now, that's not fair," Mika chimed in stepping alongside the tall blond. "Let's at least make this an even fight. Let's show these criminals how to properly battle Claw!"

The non-tracking member of Mika's away party stepped forward, ready for a battle.. "Shrewshrew! Shrra!" It beat it claws together, as if to file them.

"All right then. Let's go Rogue!" Fary released her Zorua from it's ball, intent on having the little fox fight. "Zorrrrr!" came the cry as the Dark-type came out. "Good let's do this!"
Jordan had been cornered by the oldest member of this ragtag group of grunts, a battle-hardened criminal who looked like this wasn't his first evil syndicate. Or even his tenth.

"Kid, I'm going to take you down so fast you won't know what hit ya!" He smirked, revealing a smile that had more than a few holes in it, as he reached for his Pokeball.

"Dude, grandpa, man, I'm like, not really looking for a fight, or nothing man," Jordan stammered.

"Well too bad kid! Go get him Ekans!" The older grunt released an Ekans that looked like it had seen better days. It's skin was dull, it's eyes were listless, and one of it's fangs appeared to be broken off. [sub]"Ekanssssss"[/sub] it quietly hissed.

"Um...OK." Jordan turned to the Pokemon still on his shoulder. "Uh, Vicky, you want to take this one?"

"Zubitbit!Zubit!" Won't take much to beat this geezer! Vicky flew from her perch and fluttered above the "veteran" opponent.

"OK, cool. Um...so what do you do?"

"Bit!" This! Vicky started making a very high-pitched noise, and it looked like sound waves were flying towards the Ekans. The Supersonic attack connected and the old snake was reeling, thoughts of the internet and iPads clouding it's head, and it attacked itself.

"Aw, dang it!" the Rocket cursed.

"Sweet! What else you got there Vicky?"

"Bit! Bitbit!" Oh! I can do this! Vicky lunged at the Ekans, getting right close to it before stopping and making a different sound, releasing a red wave right at the Poison type. It hit and the Ekans was left frozen in fear. It couldn't move.

"Totally sweet! Do that again!"

Vicky did as commanded and hit Ekans with another Astonish. Ekans was able to move this time, but it only served to smack it's head against the cave floor, dealing more damage.

"Dang it this ain't working!" The old Rocket was getting angry, and his compatriots were dropping around him like flies.

"One more Vicky!" A final Astonish served as the capper and the Ekans slumped to the ground in defeat.

"Blasted kids and your noises!" The battered Rocket recalled Ekans and beat a hasty retreat with some of the other fleeing Rockets.

"All right! Nice one, Vicky!" Jordan said, offering praise to the victor.

"Bitbit! Bitbitzubit!" Oh yeah! Take that old guys! Don't tell me what to do! Yeah!
"Well that was a great battle," Mika said, calling Claw back to his side.

"Yeah, I wish the others could have seen it," Fary agreed, recalling Rogue.

"Indeed. That was quite a maneuver you pulled. I especially liked the backflip."

"Yeah, it's awesome. We practiced that at home!"

"We should regroup with the others."

"OK."
"Damian! Wait up!" Kimmy called out to her partner. "I can't move as fast as..Ah!" Her fruitless efforts to get Damian to slow down were only compounded when she tripped on a jutting rock in the path, sending her crashing to the ground in a heap.

"Owwww, that hurts." Kimmy was slow to get up, the imagined pain do a lot more to work against her than the actual injury. But she didn't have time for the self-pity party. Rochelle was closing fast.

Though she was burned out, bone tired and running on nothing but adrenaline, Rochelle rounded a corner in the cave tunnel and continued her chase, Iskra in hot pursuit. Surprisingly, the young Mareep had little difficulty keeping up with her; it was probably the four legs, which would change when he became the bipedal Flaaffy. She could hear voices up ahead; she was getting close, though she didn't know it for sure.

Dashing from torchlit path to torchlit path, the Trainer and her Pokémon caught sight of black uniforms and slowed to a stop a few metres away to watch Kimmy get up, but also to get her breath back. The Rocket pair turned simultaneously at the sound of six feet coming towards them.

A girl stood in the light of the torches, breathing hard, her hair askew and a small trail of blood down the side of her head, with one hand holding up her pants and the other holding tightly to Iskra's Poké Ball. It was Rochelle Sanders, and she was pissed as hell.

"Alright... here's how this is gonna work," she said between light gasps for breath, stepping forward to imply that she meant serious business. "You're gonna tell me where I can find my possessions, and my Pokémon, right now. Otherwise, Iskra here will be happy to help me get what I want from you." The Pokémon in question took a position in front of Rochelle, eyes narrowed to thin slits akin to those of the Gym Leader Brock. Little sparks of electricity began to jump across his cream wool in preparation to make good on Rochelle's threat.

"Don't even think about it," she added, seeing Damian reach for something at his waist. Wisely, the Rocket retracted his hand, folding his arms across his chest.

Catching up quickly to Rochelle, Tyler saw that the infuriated Trainer and her Mareep had already cornered the Rockets. He and Geist took up positions next to her, just in case the two criminals tried to pull off something. From the looks of it, however, they definitely had the upper hand. "I think it's in your best interest to show us where you put her stuff" Tyler warned. To reinforce his point, Geist stepped forward and summoned a purple aura around his tiny form as if about to perform his Hidden Power attack.

Damian was silently cursing his partner yet again, Kimmy's fall costing him an escape. And now there were on the short end of the stick when it came to potential weapons. A taser wasn't going to work on an Electric type, and with two opponents to their none, they were in bad shape.

"OK, OK calm down," he told the two teens. "Let's not be too hasty on anything here. Look, I will tell you where the facility is, you can pick your stuff up there."

"Damian no!" Now Kimmy was the one upset. "I stole that stuff fair and square! I want it! It's mine now!"

"Kimmy, will you shut the bloody hell up for once in your miserable life! Can't you see we're in the deep pudding here?" Damian turned back to Rochelle and Tyler. "All I ask is that I get out of here in peace. Is that too much?"

"Damian! I'm going to Jean-Simon about this!"

"Fine! Tell the fucking frog! I don't care!"

"Oooooh, just you wait!" Kimmy got back up but Iskra was quick on the draw and shocked right back down to the ground. "OWWWWWWW!" Her cries were the only thing that alerted the now stampeding group of Rockets passing by them to avoid her as she lay down.

"Stupid tart. So look, is that a fair deal? My cooperation for my escape?"

Rochelle wasn't about to trust Damian right off the bat. Being a member of the Team Rocket expedition, he clearly knew his way around the tunnel network far better than she or Tyler did, and could easily lead them into a trap. With that in mind, she figured she could squeeze a bit more out of the helpless grunt before she let him go. Even if she reclaimed her property, she would have no knowledge of the routes out of Mt. Moon. Perhaps the Rockets would know the answer to that particular conundrum.

"I think we need to renegotiate. Bring certain specifics to light. You show us where I can find my possessions - shut it, you," she snapped at Kimmy, who whimpered at the mention of losing what she had stolen. When the Rocket fell silent, Rochelle turned her attention back to Damian. "Once I have everything you two took from me, we rejoin our friends and you show all of us the way out of Mount Moon, to Cerulean City. From there you guys can go wherever you want. I don't care what you do."

Damian looked around a little bit nervously. Well, what's it going to matter. Not like they are going to gain any secrets that aren't going to be blown up anyway. The remaining kids were catching up to them. "Fine it's a deal. Just tell your friends to stay here, come with me and be quick about it."

Jordan led the group as they caught up to the other two. "Hey, uh Rochelle, uh Tyler, so like, what's going on here? Are these those Rocket dudes? Do we like need to beat them, or something?"

Aeris walked with the others towards where Rochelle and Tyler were. She had been looking around for where the fossils might be that she'd heard about being here in Mt. Moon. She groaned a little. She didn't want to make Mika worried, but she slipped away from the group and sneaked away. She'd be able to find them again, no worries. But now she needed to find one of the Rocket grunts from earlier, see if they'd tell her anything. She was sure that they took all the fossils, and she wanted one.

She saw one of the Rockets after walking for just a short while. It was the same Rocket she beat earlier. He didn't take well to seeing her again, and started to run away. "Blaze, after him!" "Charmeleon!" Blaze gave chase after the Rocket, and pounced on his legs, knocking him down, though he was able to avoid getting his face smashed on the hard rock floor.

"What do you want this time? You beat me! Leave me alone!" The Rocket struggled to get loose, but Blaze held his legs tightly. Aeris folded her arms and looked down at the Rocket with a stern look in her eyes. "I want fossils. Now. You won't like what Blaze can do to you if I don't get at least one." The rocket chuckled and eventually laughed. "You're kidding. That's what you want? Hmpf. I suppose my life in exchange for a fossil isn't that bad of a trade. Just tell your stupid lizard to let go of me so I can stand up!" Blaze growled at the Rocket, who whimpered. "F-fine. You're not stupid."

"Blaze, let him go. Do anything funny, and you'll be at the receiving end of her fangs and flames." The Rocket stood up and dusted himself. "U-understood, ma'am." He lead Aeris and Blaze to a sort of room that seemed to contain many fossils. "Pick one..." the Rocket mentioned, showing her the fossils by pointing with his hand. Aeris walked up to the fossils, Blaze standing guard in case the Rocket tried anything. Aeris twitched a little when she saw the shells on some of the fossils, giving her the feeling that they were Water Pokemon. Eventually, she found a fossil with a dome on it that she was certain wasn't the same as the ones with a shell. She put it into one of the pockets on her backpack and turned back to the Rocket and Blaze. "I thank you for your cooperation." The Rocket was obviously not pleased. "As much cooperation as one gets when you threaten me with a fire breathing lizard." he said and walked out of the room. "Your business here is done. Off with you, and may I never see you again." Aeris gladly walked out of the room with her new fossil. Following the tunnels, and sounds from the others, she again found the group and go to the back of it, as if she had never left. Hopefully, no one had noticed her absence.

"Hey, uh Rochelle, uh Tyler, so like, what's going on here? Are these those Rocket dudes? Do we like need to beat them, or something?"

"Well, we've already beat these two," Tyler replied to Jordan. "And they're gonna give Rochelle her stuff back before showing us the way out. If they try anything funny, they get a couple more volts through 'em". His attention returned to Rochelle. If she was going to follow the Rockets, he was going to go with her. Tyler didn't trust those two as far as he could potentially throw them. "You want me to come with?" he asked Rochelle.

"Fine, it's a deal. Just tell your friends to stay here, come with me and be quick about it."

Rochelle was satisfied with Damian's agreement to her terms, but, of course, she wasn't going to trust him with showing her the route. He might be complying, but he was still a criminal. That thought clashed with the fact that she had to rely on him to get her possessions back. Thankfully Tyler cut into Rochelle's pondering of the dichotomy; wandering thoughts were not a good thing in this situation.

"You want me to come with?"

"Of course. No sense going on my own," she answered, giving Tyler a quick halfhearted smile before turning back to the Rockets. Almost instantly her face assumed an expression of mild distaste, coloured by a touch of anger thrown in. Regardless of her emotions, she would keep to the deal and let them go once they had made good on their part. "You may as well lead on... and no tricks," she added as an afterthought.

"OK bro," Jordan said. "So yeah like we'll be here then I guess?" He looked at the fallen woman on the ground. "We can guard that one."

"Hey!" Kimmy tried to exclaim, though the sound was muffled through the ground.

"Fine, let's just get this over with then," Damian said as he started to lead Rochelle and Tyler towards the depository. "There's no telling how much time we'll actually have to get to your stuff and back."

"Makes sense," Rochelle noted, eagerly following the Rocket through the caves. She tried to hide her alacrity, though, as such behaviour felt somehow wrong in present company. Still, she was about to be reunited with her Pokémon, and Damian had said that they hadn't 'converted' them, whatever that meant. Given his comment just before the battle about Iskra being 'imprinted' on Rochelle, she took it to mean that they must have some sort of process to turn the loyalty of Pokémon away from their Trainers. Horrified and disgusted by this thought, Rochelle poked Damian in the back, urging him forward.

"I imagine you don't wanna see the two of us any more than you have to, so moving a bit faster would be nice," she added as the three humans and two Pokémon sped up a little. Honestly, I feel the same, she mentally added. You Rockets disgust me, the way you seem to treat your Pokémon as little more than tools. Rochelle made a mental note to treat her Pokémon with a dash extra care and respect more than she already did once clear of Mt. Moon and away from the whole Team Rocket fiasco.

"Look, girlie, you want to start attracting attention from every single other Rocket in here right away, you go all out for it," Damian scolded Rochelle. "You want to look natural, try and get as far ahead as we can? Then we'll go at my speed." He proceeded to lead the two up a nearby staircase. "Like I said, I don't know how much time we have left, we want to make sure we make the best of it until it's time to start running."

Look natural? Please. We're two Trainers and their Pokémon willingly following a member of Team Rocket, Rochelle mentally retorted, though she kept her thoughts to herself as she walked alongside Tyler, Iskra behind her just in case. There is nothing natural about this no matter which way you look at it. She became a little paranoid as they continued walking, jumping ever so slightly at flickering shadows. She had started subconsciously looking around to focus on paths leading away from the route the trio were taking.

Behaviour such as this wasn't normal for Rochelle; she knew that things were fine right now, but she couldn't help herself. She was tired out from the events that had taken place; the adrenaline that had given her the strength to run was fading fast. The Trainer stifled a yawn with one hand, trying not to show weakness in the company of the Team Rocket member.

Damian continued to walk over a natural rock bridge that led to the holding rooms. "Right, if Kimmy did her bloody job for once, they should be in this room up ahead." He pointed to a door along the carved out hallway. "Then we can get out of here."
"And that's what happened! I tried to beat them whippersnappers back! But they were all over the place! It was dang horrible, I tells ya!"

The old grunt was tried to explain what had happened in the tunnels to Jean-Simon, who vaguely understood the old man's euphemisms. "Uh-huh, oui, I zee. Well eet is sad that we zeem to have been compromised already. I suppose it would bee time to abandon zis facilitee. Ah well, it was a good run."

Jean-Simon reached into his makeshift desk and pulled out an advanced communication device. He pressed a button on it.

"Well, let us get out of here," Jean-Simon started towards another staircase that led to some escape pods that burrowed into an underground chamber. The old grunt feebly followed behind.
Damian looked down as his device started going off. He held it up to his face and a quick glance confirmed his worst fear. "Bloody hell! Your stuff's in there. Get it and hurry!"

At the mention of her possessions being behind the indicated door, Rochelle needed no second invitation. Iskra in tow, she hurried towards the door and yanked it open without a second thought. The door led to a warehouse-type room, about the size of a classroom. A couple of machines sat at the far end of the room, with little to describe their function, so Rochelle had no intention of touching them.

She spotted her bag almost instantly; it had been placed on a table just inside the door. A plastic bag filled with labeled Poké Balls sat beside it, and Rochelle's face lit up at the sight. She rummaged through the top of her bag, in which the things taken from her person had been roughly stuffed - including her wallet, Pokédex and Pokégear - and found her belt which she promptly threaded around her waist. No longer needing to hold her pants up, she grabbed both her bag and the bag of Poké Balls and returned to Tyler and Damian, slipping her bag over one shoulder as she did so.

"Right, that's everything. You wanted me to move fast, so fast I was," she said upon rejoining the two of them, a smile playing at the corners of her mouth now that she had her possessions back. They weren't out of the woods yet, though, as they still had to get out of the mountain.

"Bloody hell! Your stuff's in there. Get it and hurry!"

Tyler glanced at the Rocket, who seemed to be concerned with...something. "What exactly are you going on about?" he asked suspiciously. This man wanted to leave in a hurry, that was for sure, but why? Whatever it was, it couldn't be good. Reinforcements perhaps? Tyler hoped not. "If there's something up, I think it's in your best interest to tell us," he added.

"Come on!" Damian was urging Rochelle as she went through the room.

"What exactly are you going on about? If there's something up, I think it's in your best interest to tell us"

"You want to know what's bloody up? How about ten bloody thousand tons of mountain? And it won't be up in about ten minutes! That's how long we have to get the bloody hell out of here! Now come on!" Damian was taking off back towards the exit in a hurry, not daring to stick around another minute longer.

"Wait, what!?"

Tyler broke into a sprint to keep up with the fleeing Rocket, Geist following in close pursuit. "You're telling me that this place is blowing sky high? What the fuck does Team Rocket think they're doing!?" he spat incredulously as he ran. "There's Pokemon that will die in here!" His brows narrowed in anger. Team Rocket was supposed to be ruthless, but destroying an entire mountain full of Pokemon? The very thought made Tyler's blood boil. As soon as they ran out of the cave, he was going to give these guys a piece of his mind - if he didn't beat them senseless first.
