Wherever You Are, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw0BdKuky2M] From Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search for Christopher Robin. I'm not going to lie. This song still makes me wanna bawl like a child who just lost his balloon, and I'm 19 years old.

EDIT:
I just remembered Shadow of the Colossus. Especially the song Demise of the Ritual.
This song always sent shivers down my spine...
After losing Agro, the only thing going through my mind was "I'm going to make them pay." Demise of the Ritual definitely strengthened that resolve... when I wasn't getting a laser to the face, that is.

Having 107 posts before me would suggest that I'm probably not the first to mention this, but And the band played waltzing Matilda is probably the saddest song I've heard.
(note: This is a completely different song to Waltzing Matilda)

that does not soun sad
Thank you for stating that (I was waiting for someone to say that...).

The song's melody is very up-beat, true, but have a look at the song's lyrics [http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/The-Saddest-Song-lyrics-Streetlight-Manifesto/3A3AFB305B27218F48256E00000637AF].

Lyrics hit Happiness' weak point for massive damage!

Happiness died!

Anyways, I...*counts on fingers*...14th Mad World by Gary Jules. That song makes my eyes all watery, but I can't stop listening to it.

second
third. I've heard a lot of songs/music/tune that filled my soul with such emotions, but none were able to do it as perfectly as "Mad World". Almost felt like watching my hamsters jumping off my balcony in an Indian queue.
4th.That song is so beautiful and sad. Great though.
nth. Can't be bothered reading the thread to find the value of n.

Most of Evanescence songs are really sad, but Amy Lee writes some of the most beautifull lyrics at the same time. Its depressing but uplifting at the same time.

I'm curious as to why people mentioned "Cats In The Cradle" It's the first song i ever shed a tear for.. one of my favourites.. Grew up without a Dad so i can kind of relate to the song.

that's some truth right there, but try 'lua' by bright eyes or pick just about any elliott smith song for some pretty stark stuff

but the saddest song ever?
'minneapolis' by lucinda williams. that song is devastating.

"Yet Another Day", by Armin van Buuren

A bit quiet, this one, so you might need to turn up your speakers a bit.

Either 'Wish you were here' by Pink Floyd or 'Go On' by Jack Johnson.

The lyrics to 'Go On' aren't even that sad it's just mainly the tune alone.

Probably this song, or this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9spzKfDWQ5U Ignore the video.

I might have mentioned Evanescence only months ago, but lately I find it too over-the-top to be sad.
