Children are horrible. And lots of things should carry meaning. For example, elections should be fair and not tampered with in the Middle East. However shit happens. I doubt most parents "have the time" to research a game for their child, let alone know what the E.S.R.B. means, let alone stands for as an acronym. The tools for self-regulation are in place but no one uses them. I got Metal Gear Solid Guns of the Patriots as a kid because it looked cool on the shelf and my dad bought it without any grumbling, even when the guy at checkout asked him for an I.D. In that regard a lot of parents are the same and are willing to acquiesce to their children for a lot of reasons.Vibhor said:My analogy didn't meant that kids are horrible. My analogy was supposed to mean that kids are doing something they shouldn't and while doing so are ruining it for others.Pointer said:The ratings are in place but that doesn't stop mommy from getting her child a game, especially considering how soft an M BlOps generally is. There are some disturbing moments but I don't think that most kids are in it for the story. Besides that point in other countries besides the United States rating are different, and are often just suggestions.
And your analogy really doesn't hold water. Maybe if the kid punched you in the nuts, called you a fag, then had sex with a stripper in front of you then it would make sense.
Also, ratings SHOULD mean something. Any mother giving her child COD for gift is a bad(or misinformed) parent. Why doesn't she do every one a favor and make that gift a copy of Portal 2 instead?
Thank you, you just saved me typing a paragraph. This, end the thread.SL33TBL1ND said:That's the thing. I shouldn't have to mute anyone. Let's just put a couple of games side-by-side here. When I play TF2 I never mute anyone, everyone is polite (as far as gamers go), funny and interesting to talk to. When I play COD on the other-hand, I routinely have mute-all on purely because I don't want to deal with the immature bullshit that comes out of those kid's mouths. I shouldn't have to deal with that shit, and yet there seems to be a huge concentration of those sorts of people in that player-base.
Really? Im actualy suprised people actualy tease you for being as girl in this day and age. Like being gay Id expect but a girl? This blatantly? Oh humanity, you always disapoint me, even when I give you so little credit.AngelBlackChaos said:Even if a mute button is involved, in PC games, there is usually a way for them to type something annoying and rude. Lots of fun when you get to hear guys try to reason that whether I win or lose a match, I am a girl, so "u loose in RL".
Its gotten a lot better over the years, which I am thankful for, but still. Annoying when you find a few players have have to spoil the experience with other players.
ESRB rating are just guidelines they can't legally be enforced in most if not all countries.I personally think that an arbitrary age rating for a game is stupid there are plenty of people under the age of 18 that could enjoy mature game without being negatively affected or acting immature just like there are plenty people over the age of 18 who couldn't do that.I think the responsibility should lie with the parents and only the parents the ESRB tells them what is in the game they then have the choice to let their children play it if they think its suitable or not if hey don't.putowtin said:my argument is why are kids (and I mean kids) playing games like COD in the first place, it's an 18 rated game and yet I've seen parents buying it for their kids, one asked me if I thought it suitable for his 10 year old son!No_Remainders said:So. We've all heard this before, the console fan-bases are shit because most of the people who play them are children who swear and shout inanely into their mics.
Ok, what does this have to do with anything? Yeah, sure, they're annoying, but there are mute buttons.
I just read a reason why (apparently) Black Ops was bad as being "screaming children and campers galore". This makes no sense. Sure, campers can be annoying, but screaming children do not affect the game or how it plays.
Seriously, learn what a mute button is and how it works.
But as I said, its rather rare now, which makes me a little more comfortable with online multiplayer than I used to be. Usually, its the kids, not grown men that do it. I usually chalk it up to childish issues with the opposite sex. Nowadays, whatever team or group that I am with in the game, behave themselves. And any sort of versus seems more properly handled.Guilherme Zoldan said:Really? Im actualy suprised people actualy tease you for being as girl in this day and age. You just won this thread. I don't know how you did it but you did anyway. Okay, do all of you play on servers with an strict "douche-bag kids only" rule? i've been playing CoD 4, MW2 and Black Ops (MW2 being the only one i haven't played on both PC and PS3) for quite some time and i seldom hear ANYONE screaming or even just talking over the mic.WanderingBiscuits said:He isn't saying they have any less right to play than him. COD is notorious for this kind of thing and thats why i'm not a fan either.
