1. Typical "We're making COD from the never-before-seen angle" (Pride)

2. No Single player campaign has been confirmed. Because we are lazy (Sloth)

3. Battle Royale will be replacing the campaign. Because it's popular(Envy)

4. Almost carbon-copy of BO3 multiplayer with very similar class-system mechanic, fixing nothing that made multiplayer so frustrating (Wrath)

5. Zombies will have three campaigns. Because that alone makes it up for full price (Gluttony)

6. As done before, PS4 owner will get some bonus. Trying to appease the PS4 owners I see (Lust)

7. And it will still charge the standard $60, and other cash-grab special editions (Greed)

And there are your seven deadly sins of Black Ops 4

Oh hey, another game goes battle royale. Gee, this trend following sure is a healthy and productive way to create new content.

Meh, pretty much par for the course. Some game would achieve unexpected breakout success and all the usual suspects would stumble over each other for a piece of the pie. Remember when everyone was chasing that sweet COD dollar? Didn't turn out that great for most, since COD had already cornered the market. In this case it's a little more interesting than usual, since trendsetter PUBG actually lost the number 1 spot to copycat Fortnite. But I doubt Activision will manage to pull the same trick.

Though there is some delicious irony in COD having become a bandwagon jumper itself.

Think you're really stretching there. You could just say the fact that faceless bozos are slaughtering each other in battle royales for no defined reason is wrath in of itself.

cods still at it i see.

ABZU is not that old, but it does fish too, and there's even more of them!
The amount of effort the dev put into modeling marine wildlife and its behaviours is pretty impressive. Stick around one place long enough and you can see stuff like predators attack and eat other fish, who in turn flee, and all kinds of believable little interactions.

Oh, and it's also gorgeous.

Clutching at straws slightly with some of these, but I appreciate a good dig when it's due.

The whole ripping on CoD thing though is a little stale now though, right? I mean, people still play it in troves. Not the type of gamers that frequent geeky sites such as ours here, but enough that they are still making a killing. If they want to find that niche that allows them to sell lots of games by partly using another idea then so be it. People will still buy it and they will still get their cash. And we can keep playing whatever games that interest us.

I am amazed people care about the single player after we were told COD/BF/MOH single player sucks:

The COD campaign may have become mediocre, but they always were the setting for each entry. Like seriously, where does BO4 takes place? Or is this like a Super Smash Bros series where continuity means jack shit? I also found COD campaign to be a summer block-buster type of fun, entertaining me for a good 3-4 hours

While I don't particuarly care about CoD, it's yet another series that's forsaken singleplayer for a multiplayer-only experience. And art, regardless of medium, doesn't exist in a vacuum. So while CoD is a "meh" from me, what happens if (or when) this trend starts affecting the series I DO like? I mean, arguably it already has.

CoD's well and truly into trend-following than trend-setting right now, but it's still an AAA franchise that's forsaken singleplayer, in a landscape where singleplayer games aren't as common as they once were.

Reportedly near future, between Black Ops 2 and 3. So, by my guess, sometime in the 2030s.

No idea about the context though. I mean, you can flesh out the world of a multiplayer-only FPS (see Overwatch), but the difference is that Overwatch is a single game added to over time (over years so far) whereas BO4 is part of a series, and presumably there'll be a BO5 in three years time. So not sure how effective that kind of approach would be.

I appreciate that they are just dropping the act now and going straight for cynical profit guzzling trend chasing greed they were always harbouring somewhat conspicuously. [small]Kinda like the current Republican party, amirite??[/small]
However, only about 3 of those 7 sins aren't stretching a little beyond their means.

I really hope it flops and flops really hard so as to show these video game publishers that you can't decide that we no longer want a story mode in our games. And you can still change 60 pounds for the privilege.

I have a feeling it won't though.

You have a feeling that the series which sells based on "keeping up with the jones" MP (If you wanna play CoD, there are always mass population migrations at release) and zombies wont suffer from not having a campaign?

The same series, which is regularly critiqued for phoning in their single player?

I think you may be on to something there.

Also, for the record, single player whingers need to pick a lane. These games get bashed by the SP crowd constantly. Now they're simply skipping the ordeal, that same crowd wants to double down and treat it like an affront they wouldnt bother this time around. SP isnt dead, we just had God of War to cement that path. Not everything is for all audiences, let it go.

We didn't want them to stop trying. We wanted them to at least try to improve it.

But, no, apparently ?50 for a game with no campaign is acceptable these days. Yay.

I don't know much about COD but if people are complaining about the single player they probably want it done better, not eliminated. Eliminated the single player and still charging $60.

So uh, dont buy it then? In general, people need to stop buying products not aimed at them, then complaining its not aimed at them.

I won't be buying it but is it ok if I have an opinion?

Why is the battle royal thing bad?

It's an additional mode. More modes are good right? Maybe it will flop like " Uplink" Maybe it'll be good?

Y'all been ripping on CoD for a decade. Make like Elsa and " Let it go".

I only buy treyarch games for TDM myself. Other games offer less.
