The Simpsons WAS the best but now they lost their touch. However, that doesn't mean they're not funny and should die. Even though they can't compare to the older episodes, I still find myself laughing uncontrollably at the new episodes.
What is the best? At the moment, Futurama.
South Park is okay but it's the same situation with the Simpsons. It was funny at the beginning and lost its touch in the end but still manages to make you laugh (or at least me).
Family Guy is funny in my opinion but I see why everyone dislikes it for its very, VERY crude humor, lack of intelligence, and its ripping off of the Simpsons. That still doesn't mean it's not funny.
King of the Hill is alright but not the greatest.
I can safely say I dislike American Dad very much. I'm putting it in the nicest way possible so I don't get American Dad fans pissed.

I love watching the older episodes (up to like the 14th season), but I loathe watching the newer seasons. However, I feel like the latest iteration of Simpsons (season 20/21?) in HD seems to be fresher and more well written than in previous years.

I love the one where he becomes the Beer Baron.

Simpsons are the very definition of dry and tasteless humour, it tries so hard that it falls flat on the ground and dies...
Family Guy however, it retarded and somewhat breathtaking.

Ehh... it's alright. I never got into it as much as most of my friends because my mum never let me watch it until I was twelve.

I will go with Futurama too...

The Simpsons lost their touch when they started trying to hard to be controversial. Early episodes felt controversial because they were pretty honest and real; now it is just using awkward plot twists to make jokes about "hot topics".

futurama started sucking for me after the beast with a million backs.
I found the beast of the billion backs to be the last great thing about futurama... Bender's game was terrible, and the last movie actually make me thank the show was over, that way they couldn't stain my memories anymore.

I think that just about everyone can agree with the fact that the first season of the Simpsons sucked.

But I think that it's really come a long way since then. The fact that they can have a new episode every week that's original, interesting and funny is proof enough that this show is one of the greats.

I personally think that Family Guy is a relatively lazily done show, seeing as 2/3rds of the entire show are stupid little cutaways that have absolutely nothing to do with anything to waste time. Honestly, they could cut Family Guy down to the size of Robot Chicken and it would have the same effect.

Futurama is a fantastic show, it's definitely in my top 10, and I'm looking forward to the new season that's coming out next year (or so I've heard about. :\)

American Dad is a horrible excuse for a show. It's just about a homophobic government agent whose head needs to be deflated and his dysfunctional, unoriginal family and its flamingly gay alien pal. I tried watching it and only thought one thing was remotely funny.

In conclusion, the Simpsons kicks ass.

It was an exceptional show in its golden age, around seasons 1-8, but it went downhill from there, and has not stopped.

So I guess it must die at some point, unless it returns to its former glory.

Which is highly unlikely.

Highly.

The very early episodes where kind of boring, then they got their act together and it started to get really good, now i think they're kind of running out of ideas

I still like the simpsons, although I'm not really up to date on the newer episodes, so I wouldn't know whether to say family guy is better or not

The Simpsons has definately fallen from grace so to speak, it used to be one of the best cartoons out there but now (as others have said) it's become just 'okay', nothing more, nothing less.

It has it's excellent moments just like everything else but recently it's just felt lackluster in comparison to shows like South Park and Family Guy (and let us not forget Futurama).

It's weird.
I can watch Simpsons and I can watch Family Guy but I can only ever seem to chuckle. I remember laughing at both. Maybe it's something to do with the fact I know half the scripts off by heart, but I watched all the Treehouse of Horror episodes and even the ones I hadn't seen weren't THAT funny.
Was very good when I was growing up though.
The movie however, that was fantastic.
Now I need to try and watch more Futurama.

I think Simpsons peaked around season 6 or so. I havent been interested since. I keep tuning in every now and then and end up not laughing for half an hour. Then I turn of Family Guy, SouthPark, Metalocalypse, Venture Bros. etc and laugh A LOT.

I think its one of those shows that people now tune into just cause they've been watching it for 15 years. Habit.

Family Guy is probably the best but I consume it so fast I always want more, but the guys at Fox can't satisfy my humor needs.
Watched the Simpsons, didn't catch me.
