"I actually have a life"/"Get a life".
Normally uttered by those that are very insecure and not too happy with their current state of affairs, and want to feel that they are superior to others so that they feel better about their crappy situation.

Also, if you tell somebody to "Get a life", that's normally you making excuses for not being as good/knowledgeable as the "no-lifer". It also irks me because they probably have no clue about the persons life that they are commenting on.
Oh my fucking God, yes.

Usually it's something along the lines of "sort yourself out" or "get over it" when it comes to mental issues.

That's led to everything from long debates to fistfights from experience; I know it sounds conceited to say that unless you've had it, you wouldn't understand, but that's just it; no amount of well-wishing and empathy will give you an experience of what we have to put up with.

Also there's far too much Fillion hate in this thread; wars have been started over less you know...

"It's part of tradition." Yeah, that's a good excuse.

"Well that's what you think." No fucking shit. You mean to tell me that what I just told you is what I think? Damn, I guess I've been going about this all wrong. Looks like we should start over, this time me automatically agreeing with everything you say, since, after all, it's been confirmed that the dissenting opinion is "what I think".

"Yeah, okay, whatever, who cares, maybe": All of those in the context of "I'm not even listening to what you're saying."

"It is what it is."

I'm not sure anyone ever says this in regard to something that actually always "is what it is", like gravity or the fucking sun - probably because no one ever needs to be told such things are what they are. No, people generally say "it is what it is" when they're making a conscious and reprehensible decision to behave in a way that negatively affects you.

Caught cheating on you? "It is what it is."
Screwed you out of a bunch of money? "It is what it is."
Mocked you ruthlessly in front of a bunch of people? "It is what it is."

It's a way for a shitty person doing a shitty thing to somehow avoid saying "I'm a shitty person doing a shitty thing."
This phrase has never been used by someone screwing me over. I use it to calm down my friend when he is over analyzing social situations, or anything for that matter. It's always been used as a "Stop thinking about it, let's think about something else." around me. Either that or to drop a topic of conversation.
guy1:"So how about gay marriage?
guy2:"It is what it is."
guy1:"...err okay."

OT: Any insult pointed at a female in the USA. With a small exception of slut/whore/etc. (but this is becoming less of an exception). It instantly turns into a shitstorm, there is no brewing. Oh, if you value your life (and if you believe in it, afterlife) never, ever, in the entire existence of time use a woman's weight as an insult.

"I think pedophilia is completely fine."
WHO IN THE FUCK SAID THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

On Topic: I dislike when people use the phrase "Shallow and pedantic" because it was a joke on one episode of Family Guy. It's rarely funny, and often promotes ignorance of the terms, leading to even more improper use of said words.

Some meathead was actually arguing with me that "As long as you know I'm using it negatively, then you get what I'm saying. I can use words however I want." (Not that he said it that well. I just understood him.) You can't use words however you want. If you could then dog bubble gum ostentatious Jupiter.

"Then why did you say it?"

We're not all that great with words, especially when it comes to describing feelings. Sometimes you'll try to speak your mind but it comes out wrong, and what you end up saying isn't something that you actually believe in. Don't hold people so strictly to things they say in the heat of the moment. Especially don't analyse exact wordings so much. Accept that we're all fallible, and then the upwards lifelong marathon of communication with your loved ones is that little bit easier.

A BAT CREDIT CARD?!?!

*Pulls out gun*

*Shoots indiscriminately while shouting intelligible things*

OT: "You are pathetic"

I'll admit, I was called this one time on the forums because I was complaining about something stupid. I still hate being called that though.

"Can you do me a favour?"

Well I don't know. Can I? You haven't asked me what the favour is yet, how in the Hell am I supposed to know if I can do it or not? And then, when I respond with "I don't know" or words to that effect, I get labelled a selfish arsehole. Fuck that.

"end of".

Even if I agree with the person saying this, it gives me the urge to immediately change my views.

close second is "I hate politics". One may as well say "I do not care about, or am too stupid or lazy to understand, any problem anyone on the planet is having, nor do I care about social causes, society, morals, ethics, or philosophy. I am perfectly content living in my own little routine, and do not desire to learn about anything or try to understand the world or people in general."

...And you're upset about other's hedonistic apathy? I mean they can do what they want. If they want to chill out and block out all the bad stuff not immediate to them go ahead. Not hurting not helping.

"Whatever [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz7_3n7xyDg]".

When used dismissively this word unleashes the rage.

I never said people couldn't do what they want, just that that phrase annoys me to no end, and people who use it are not people I want to be around or to interact with in any capacity.

Fair enough - agree to disagree I suppose.
Holy hell, I didn't expect to see annoying phrases used - in context - in a thread about annoying phrases.

My own personal peeves are "agree to disagree", "everyone has/I have a right to their/my opinion" (to quote George Carlin, "...my opinion is that you have no right to your opinion!"), and any time anyone asks me to respect them. No, I will not "agree to abide by" you. Nor will I have respect for you (which I'm sure is what you meant).

Ahem.
And so when two people who refuse to budge from opposite sides of argument youre supposed to say what?

The inability to accept that anyone expect you could POSSIBLY be right - even when they have a totally different life exprience etc - is just plain dumb. So perhaps thats something we can . . . no Im not so much of a troll im gonna go there ;)

Hmm, I don't blow up on people often, but when I do it is often memorable, most recently, I was asked to do something I disagreed with by a manager for a company I no longer work for. I'm pretty flexible person, so I figured I must be misunderstanding the purpose of the assigned task, so I pressed my manager for a reason, she dodged the question for a while then snapped at me saying, "You'll do it because I said so."

Well, I'd had enough of her shit, so I went into a rant I can still remember to this day:

"Not f---ing good enough lady, only two people on this planet get to use "because I said so" on me, and you are neither old nor mean enough to be -either- of my parents. so if you can't answer a simple f---ing question then you can find yourself a new f---ing cook."

Needless to say, this is one of the major reasons I no longer work at this place. (And for the record, upon hearing the story and what I said, my parents couldn't stop laughing about it for a week.)
