I was discussing multiplayer with one of my friends lately and he kinda went into a tirade about how he despises snipers in any game and considers them "A disgusting mix of Hitler, Satan, and Fred Phelps". I don't remember the whole thing but I do remember his Sniper Principle. I don't know if this has been said before but I thought I'd share it.

The Sniper Principle goes as follows:
1. The odds of having fun in multiplayer is indirectly proportional to the number of snipers on the map.
2. If a sniper can ruin a good match he will make every attempt to do so.
3. Any class given a sniper rifle, motion sensor, and mortar strike shouldn't be called the "Recon" class. Just rename it the "God" class and be done with it. (He said it only applies to BC2)

I thought this was funny, but couldn't decide wether he was right, so I just wanted to hear what other people think about it.

In other words, he is raging against snipers because he doesnt know how to deal with them?
I do agree that an over abundance of snipers tends to ruin teamplay, but its hardly a problem: choose another match and keep playing...

Also, in BC2, its probably worth mentioning that snipers do one shot kills on hardcore mode, but at any other time require two shots to the body or one headshot - tell him not to play hardcore, since my friend also plays hardcore and tends to rage about mortar strikes and sniper spam, since its just unbalanced gameplay...

I HATE snipers in games, mostly since I'm one of those insane people who love close quarters. I agree with his statements, I loathe snipers, no matter how much skill it takes to be good with it. I always view them as cowards, and never be a Sniper because I know how bad it is to walk to an objective for five minutes only to be instakilled by a person taking potshots on a hillside, micspamming about how he has skills.

Or Counter-Strike, with its overpowered AWPs. /rant

Server full of snipers? Switch servers.

Problem solved.

If you really want to give a camping sniper, memorize his position and return with portable explosive devices.

Edit: I found your friends rant on snipers similar to the kind of person this fellow was describing in a different thread.

My problem with snipers lies only in BC2. Because they all always happen to be in my match. It seems like every game I join has so many snipers on both sides that it's impossible to complete the objective unless I'm defending a crate.

Eh, you ether love em' or hate em' why can't there be middle ground of not giving a damn. that's were I am.
If someones sniping, go a different way flank them, that doesn't work nood tube them, that doesn't work leave.

My steps to dealing with a sniper:
1.) Switch kit to sniper
2.) counter snipe that mofo
3.) ????
4.) Profit

Your friend is a crybaby. Watch, I can do it too.

It's called "The Medic Principle."
1. The odds of having fun in multiplayer is inversely proportional to the number of medics on the map.
2. If a medic can ruin a good match he will make every attempt to do so.
3. Any class given a LMG, health packs, and defibrilators shouldn't be called the "Medic" class. Just rename it the "Jesus" class and be done with it (since you can raise people from the dead).

See?

I'm not sure where this is guy is playing but I've never had a game ruined by snipers, they're annoying sure but the mortar has such a long "reload" or cool down or whatever it's not really a big deal. There are people who I've been killed multiple times by, sure, but it's a simple fix of "Walk a different way" or "Be a bit more stealthy" generally if someone is doing that they're looking at the street, not the bushes that can be walked through with barely any movement being visible.

That or find another match. And it wasn't until a week or two into the game I figured out what the hell a motion sensor does. Call me an idiot, but I honestly had no idea.

In BC2, when there is a Sniper, I either just avoid his line of sight and sneak up on him and then do whatever. Or... I just get a tank and run him over. If I don't stay still that mortar strike don't do jack. Unless they have C4... But if there is a plane, I will launch it at them and jump out! So many choices...

I don't know about anyone else, but in the original Halo the Blood Gulch map made for a very interesting and fun King-of-the-Hill match with snipers.

Thats bull i may be a sniper in BC2 so im a little swayed but i mean all i do is take out the snipers who kill my guys, and i mortars are so weak i can get maybe one kill per 5 games, Motion sensors are recon and they are short lived get over it. Sorry if i come across as a troll but its all true

If we're talking BC2 then hardcore is unbalanced for snipers. Otherwise if a sniper is getting a lot of kills and topping the board, its because he's a good player. Give him credit.

As for a game that is better for having a sniper in it; TF2?

Camping is not the same as sniping. A good sniper will move around so the enemy doesnt know where he is.

I usually prefer to play a sniper myself, and I don't even play online all that often. I just prefer it to other styles of play in FPS-games. I'm not doing it for K/D, to ruin anyones game, or because I can't be bothered to do anything else - I do it because to me it is the most fun to be had in an FPS.
