"Yeah I know, but if you try it and it works and then maybe Katie could do it, and then...I'm...just gonna stop talking now." Jason said, rambling on before realizing that his theory was just a stupid lost cause.

"I don't know how your powers work because I never looked into them. My information and a few comments from my youngest son made my decision about not taking your powers much easier. While your powers are interesting there are too many faults. When it comes to the brain damage, well I wouldn't need to get it to get the powers. Just find the few points that were affected and work with that," Camille explained.

"Yes, faults. Listing time: multiple personalities wouldn't be helpful in the least especially since I already have the parasite talking to me, difficulty in understanding the person, the necessity for brain damage though I could counter that, not useful in combat atleast not for me, and insanity," Camille listed off, causing a new bloom on her plants with each one.

"Those are the ones I can think of off the bat," she added.

"I do not have those gadgets Herk has in his brain to keep you out. I do have the parasite which is what he based it on. So don't even bother trying it, I've already done all the prep needed to keep people out," Camille told Dona.

Richard finished off the last of the scrolls and since he didn't want to move onto the books without Leland's guidance to know which were dangerous he decided he may as well try and strike up some kind of conversation with Tommy who was still in the room.

"So Tommy, how does the magi organize themselves? The two most logical choices I can think of are republic/council and kingdom with the strongest magi leading. I'd also like to know of the social ladder, if it isn't too much to ask. I mean, do you base your classes on power, family, wealth, or are there no classes at all? It's fine if you don't want to answer my questions but I'm curious about the civilization the magi set up. My curiosity has only peaked with these scrolls."

Richard found Tommy in a corner of the library fiddling with a statue, trying to see if he could get it to activate. He heard Richard stopped, what he was doing to think for a seoond.

Code:
First of all your I don't know think you know this but there are other kinds of magical beings, they all fall under the term "Magical Society". It includes spirits, were-wolves, fey-creatures, half-breeds, etc. Magical Society is organized into several well connected city-states. In general these cities are in places that would normally be considered inhospitable or to not exist, places like deserts, deep-ocean, high in the Himalaya's. Each city runs its self by it's own rules, some are archaic, king council type of things, some are more modern, city council, mayor, yada yada. They all answer to the Arc Mage council, a small group made up of the oldest and most powerful mages, they decide things that effect all of magical society. They're also the ones who deal with the conventional leaders, I would be suprised if Patriot Punch! hasn't ever dealt with them.

In terms of class it really depends on the city, but most are like your average capitalism, with upper, middle, and lower, decided by family income. There is however a greater amount of attention payed to family in terms of status. My family the Stitch's are incredibely well respected due to my fore-fathers work.

Oh by the way who were you talking to I heard voices?

"I was talking to Simon, nothing serious, it was mostly me asking a favor of him." Richard somewhat lied. He had asked him a favor, but he wasn't about to say what kind unless pressured.

"I'm more interested in the society the magical creatures of the world have set up. It sounds almost like an ancient Greece with a bit more federalism then they had, to use more common terminology. Would it be safe to assume that the dealings between the magical and non-magical are classified above top secret? Actually, now that I think about it, I'm actually surprised Patriot was able to keep a secret." he dryly joked.

"So, have there been wars between these city-states or does the Arch Mage Council resolve disputes peacefully? Probably an even better question is are there any real disputes considering how remote each city is from another." Richard paused for a moment after saying that.

"How do you even trade without being spotted considering the remoteness? Do you just hide caravans, use vehicles and creatures we have no understanding of, a portal system from city to city, etc?"

Tommy didn't think anything of Richard talking to Simon, he was happy to move on.

Code:
Well now your getting into to stuff I don't really know about. I've got no idea where the governments orginated from, or how they keep most people in government from knowing about it.

As for wars, well there have never been any in between the city states, but magical creatures have fought on both sides in other wars, my father for instance fought in WWII with his homeland Great-Britain. Besides that disputes between them are very rare, and are always solved by the Arch Mages fairly quickly.

We trade just like everyone else does, trains, planes, and boats. They way I understand it is that governments have certain ports where they have custom officials who already know about magic and do the inspections. Actually you would be very suprised how "normal" most magical creatures look or can look. Richard have you ever heard of something called a "weirdness filter"?
Blaze! congratulations on your 2000th post!

"No, I haven't actually. I'm just shocked I haven't run into any of this in either my father's decades and my years of running Masterson Industries. You've also peaked my interest into your father as well, but that can wait until my meeting him." Richard replied.

Thanks cap, I hadn't even noticed.

Well we live in a world were myths are busted, mystics are debunked, and all sorts of supernatural things are given rational answers. As a result most people have developed a resistance to believeing that magic exists, even when they are shown it, they say things like "Smoke and mirrors, must be some rational answer, swamp gas". You've probably seen something magical long before you joined the Society and rationalized it, especially because you an engineer, my dad says engineers or prone to rationalizing everything. The fact is it's just not in human nature to believe magic exists. Trying to force otherwise causes tensions. This willingness to believe magic doesn't exist is what we call a "weirdness filter", how people disregard things that are too weird for them. It allows people like me to get away with a lot, especially when you consider that flying, making ice, manipulating plants, casting illusions, causing earthquakes, creating armor from no-where, are all powers our teamates have without the use of magic, supernatural stuff just doesn't stand out as much as some would think.

"Fair enough, I guess you'll have to enlighten me some more later." Richard said with sincerity before his stomach rumbled.

"For now though, I haven't eaten in a while. Perhaps you would care to join me in getting some food since it is about lunch time anyway?" He asked.

Tommy nodded, slightly relieved that the questions were over, but then again he realized this was probably the last time he would be more knowledgeble about something than Richard. He motioned for Richard to take the lead and they both set out of the library and found their way back to the kitchen.

Three days later...

The Society was ready to head back to the Promenade. Their last few days had been a healing and learning process, and they were considered fully cured of the virus by Camille. Leland said that he would take them back to the Promenade, promising that it wasn't a trap or anything of the sort.

After everyone had breakfast Leland took them into the living room. After getting a few paper bags in case anyone needed to throw up after the teleporting, he took them back to the outside of the Promenade.

"Thank goodness I brought those bags," Leland said with a laugh, handing a few to Garrus who immediately threw up in them. "That was a fun few days. If you guys ever want to do anything again just get Garrus to call me!"

"Will do Leland." Richard said politely as the man teleported away before turning to the others.

"Well, that was certainly a different experience than I have ever had in my life." Richard joked in his power suit which he had put on before they left.

"Yup, you got that right Rich. It's gonna be a pain if we'd have to fight them one day." Jason answered as he waved Leland goodbye.

"Well, it was fun being around villains, but it's good to be back at the Promenade." He said with a happy sigh before dramatically turning back to face his comrades.

"Yes, The Promenade: where there's hospitality, a happy face, a museum, and...food!" He projected in a faux announcer voice before rushing to the kitchen, remembering that he'd barely had anything to eat at the lodge.

Outside of the Promenade a cloaked figure stood behind a tree, thinking to himself.

This is the place. At least, looks like it. Guess I should go introduce myself. But, what if it's not the place? No, don't be stupid, what else could this place be? More thoughts like this swirled around in the man known as Alister's head as he debated approaching the door. Well, if I don't go to them somebody's going to notice me, and I'd rather not get off on the wrong foot. Here goes, I guess.

Alister took a deep breath, and rigidly walked up to the door. He noticed he was gripping the sword at his belt rather tightly, and let go so as not to give off an intention of violence.

Still nervous, he was unable to find a doorbell and instead knocked three times, each a bit more confident and powerful than the last.

I decided to give my character one of my own qualities, specifically a fear of approaching a building he's never been in before.
