With that he got up and began investigating the artifacts that Leland had around the room.

Alright, I've kinda exhausted all the possible things for Tommy to do short of challenging the Union to a 4 on 1 fight. So I don't know, maybe we should move things along soon?

Damn good sandwich...they sure have the best ingredients here...

Simon thought happily as he finished the last of his sandwich, taking his plate over to the sink in order to rinse it off. No need to upset the host.

Finding the large house oddly quiet considering the size, Simon set off looking for where the others might be. Humming to himself, Simon managed to find his way to the library

"So this is where everyone has gathered"

He said aloud as he made his way in

"Any good reads?"

He asked as he browsed through the books

"Not unless you can read languages that were dead before the Romans." Richard replied neutrally before adding quietly enough that Tommy wouldn't hear while being loud enough that Simon would.

"And will you quiet down? Tommy is in here and with the discussion I think we will be having, I don't think either of us wants him to overhear."

Simon turned towards Richard and rolled his eyes

"If I had known you'd be in here, I'd have picked a different room"

He said softly, pulling up a chair and falling down into it

"What do you want now?"

 

[CounterAttack]

"I'm fine, Dona, nothing to worry about," Katie answered as Jason picked her up. "And I wouldn't call it a long day, Jase. I'm pretty sure it's not even reached midday yet. I've still got stuff I want to do, so maybe ten minutes rest, a glass of water and..." She trailed off, trying to remember what she wanted to do. A look at Leland jogged her memory.

"That's right... I want to talk to Camille," she added.

"First of all, you think I wish you hadn't picked another room? I was rather enjoying reading previously unknown histories of ancient civilizations, and you have ruined that. Now, seeing as you are here, I said our conversation wasn't over, and I meant it. In fact, remember how you said we were all weak as if that was the way it was always going to be? Well look around you, you see all those books and scrolls? Many of them detail the histories of great civilizations and their achievements. Each and every one of them started weak, but they grew strong with time and determination." Richard explained.

"You think I am a fool for believing the team will become stronger, but I'm just reading history."

Simon yawned and nodded

"As much as I appericate and understand the analogy your making Rich, I fail to see what your trying to accomplish by telling me this. I'd prefer if we could move on, but thats just me"

He folded his hands behind his head and leaned back, almost tempted to put his feet up on the table, but decided against it

Jason listened attentively as he walked out of the gym, cradling Katie almost like a mother would her newborn.

"Camille? Let me guess, you want to talk to her about her whole "Asorbing our powers"....power?" He said, attempting to use air quotes, but ended up bobbing his head since his hands were full.

"Now that you mention it Kate, I wouldn't mind talking to her about that either, escpecially considering my powers." He added as he traveled along the long, vacant corridors.

"What I'm trying to accomplish, my friend, is making it so I don't have to fight and possibly kill a teammate. What do you expect me to do than try and convince you that joining the Union is an idiotic idea? They may already be strong, but they are a confederacy, and confederacies never last. When they do dissolve, which will not be long since a member of theirs is already planning a coup-de-tat, you will be left without any allies. You will go back to simply being a petty thief that the strengthened Society will have to deal with. I'm trying to keep you from making the biggest mistake of your life." Richard replied.

 

[CounterAttack]

"Hmmm... I wonder if she can control her new abilities as well as we can," Katie murmured as she shifted slightly to rest her head on Jason's shoulder. "If not, then she's probably turned the greenhouse into a mess."

 

[Quad08]

Simon chuckled slightly

"This may surprise you Rich, but I'm not one to make decisions split second. So, if what you're basically asking me right now is to make an 'Us or Them' choice I can't"

He paused for a second

"What I would like to ask in return, however, is that you allow me to keep my current status in the Society. You can attach all the bugs and monitoring equipment to me that you have if it'll make you feel better but I'm willing to indulge you in giving the team a second chance...though I doubt they'll impress"

He finished as a shadow of pure contempt fell across his face before he shook his head, as if trying to shake it off

"Sorry bout that. Some of them really piss me off"

"I dunno, Camille looks like she's a pretty sharp woman. I'm sure she figured out all our powers the day she aquired them...which is kinda creepy once you think about it." Jason replied as he backtracked through the winding underground hallways.

Camille calmly looked over the few plants she was practicing, deciding to deal with the orchid first. Some people would just try and do everything possible, but Camille knew better. She was a precise woman: no chance for errors, triple-check everything you do, fully understand all that you can do and what you are capable of.

'I've already made enough mistakes,' she thought solemnly but with a slight smile as she made one of her orchids go towards her in a winter bloom. 'Hard part is over. Let's keep practicing and make this place look like it's spring,' she thought with a smirk.

Richard chuckled at his last statement.

"You think some of them don't piss me off as well? I was pissed at Patriot well before I joined the society, and Aaron didn't exactly endear himself to me at first. I'm glad you're at least willing to reconsider, it proves you aren't completely sure either way, or that I've at least made a decent point to you somewhere down the line. Don't be so quick to judge the team though, give both them and the Union time, you can pick once the dust has cleared. Mostly because that is when you cannot maintain being a liaison between me and the Union to keep your cover." Richard paused for a bit to let it sink in.

"I will not be handing you over to the society until you have decided one way or the other. Until then, I will be preparing systems to both detect you and stop you should you decide to join the Union. I wouldn't tell you if I didn't trust you somewhat, so don't think preparing defenses against means I don't. I just want to be prepared for any eventuality, and remember that I know your weakness. Reading your file when searching for suspects proved to be very useful indeed." The last sentence was mostly Richard musing out loud to himself.

Simon smiled

"Fair enough Rich. Although I don't really have a choice, I accept your terms and will do my best to keep an open mind when I'm around...the others"

He said with a strained smile

"Give them a chance, Simon, an honest chance. Drop all notions based on background, economic placement, or anything else and look at their actions, their personalities, and their words. Remember, you said you somewhat respected me and not too long ago you based your perception of me on a stereotype. Now I'm providing you with a perfectly plausible reason to stay in with the Society while openly seeing the Union, which no self respecting CEO would do. If I were thinking in terms of business, I would have handed you over as soon as I found out what you planned to do because you present a security risk to our organization if you live with us while planning to join them." Richard replied.

Simon took a deep breath and let it out slowly

"I'll give it an honest chance then. Considering you haven't turned me in, I'll take this as a way of repaying you for that"

He leaned forward

"But could you at least inform the Lovers of how dangerous there little union is? I'm honestly thinking of setting up a bet at how long it takes before someone kidnaps Katie"

"Fair enough, I will gladly accept that as payment. About Jason and Katie however, I will not say a word. It may be dangerous, but all serious relationships are and what is life without some danger in it? If you and the others want to sabotage I won't stop you, but I won't be actively helping. I'll gladly tell them that it is dangerous, but I won't try to dissuade them from pursuing it." Richard replied with a chuckle as he finished a scroll in a small pile he had amassed.
