The Society of Justice: A Super Hero Roleplay

"You'd be correct, I do not want people going into my mind," Leland said in his polite manner, with a hint of annoyance though, "Never had anyone try to mess with my mind, and I certainly don't want anyone to now."

"As for my mother's power, well I only know it in simplified terms. While she was healing everyone up with her blood she went and found out how everyone's body could produce their powers, and so if she wanted that power she took the information and taught her body how to do it," he explained in simple terms, hoping that it made sense.

Tommy didn't pick up on Richard's joke,

 Nah, I don't remember their libraries having as many rare books.

Frankly he never found Atlantis that interesting, beyond the novelty of an underwater city there really wasn't much more to it.

"No. Mine are magical based, and my upped strength and stuff is genetic," Leland explained to her, "She can't take magical powers, or things from items. She does have limits."

Jason smiled as he watched Aaron grow his own staff.

"Hell yes. Now it's a challenge!" He said excitedly, ignoring the icicles that simply bounced off his armor. Dusting off the frost the icicles left, Jason slowly approached Aaron, taking a deep breath.

"Ice may be strong, but is it stronger than my armor?" He asked, getting into a ready position.

"We will just have to find out," Aaron rushed Jason.

With the adrenaline mixed with the icy floor Aaron was fast even being in his organic ice form. He swung the staff as hard as he could not really focusing on any type of form. He followed up with a shield attack.

Jason simply sidestepped Aaron's attacks before spinning and lightly smacking him across the neck with his staff.

"C'mon man, you're gonna have to do better than that." Jason said dryly before turning towards Katie.

"You should join in! I can teach you how to use a Bo Staff!" He suggested before turning back to face Aaron.

"Wait a minute, you've been to Atlantis? Just finding the lost city alone would be a major archaeological discovery to any human, let alone a library! Even the possibility of a library that ancient, the possibilities of what works lie inside. I made that joke because we destroyed the great library multiple times, destroying all of the works, or so we believed. If there is another ancient library, there is a chance the scrolls exist there from a time long past. Perhaps hidden in back in order to protect them, or texts this library doesn't have but are just as valuable in terms of worth to historians. It even opens the door to the culture of the Atlantians themselves, and their culture and history." Richard blurted out loudly, nobody else was nearby so they wouldn't have heard his outburst. He hadn't had this kind of excited and anxious reaction since he had finished the suit, and nobody had been there to see him like that. He thought about what this in terms of Tommy for a moment before speaking.

"So, just what are you? To have been to Atlantis certainly means you are not a standard human being. Then again, that holds true of all members of the Society except for myself. I guess what I am trying to ask is, what is your actual background?" his voice maintained the same level of excitement and anticipation as before.

Katie continued to observe, incapable of attacking Aaron through her plants. He would just freeze them again if she tried. Perhaps Jason's suggestion could prove useful in a fight, and if necessary, she could grow a staff in future fights.

She crossed to Jason's side and said, "All right, I'm back in. I can't really use a branch staff against Aaron, though. He'll kill it with his power, so you'll have to provide one." She gave her boyfriend a quick smile.

Oh. Shit. Tommy's eyes suddenly went wide, wider than usual atleast. He needed to lie, but what would he say? He scanned the room for inspiration, astronmics chart, early atom model, a rack of reagents. I got it!

 Oh, I just gew up in rural Nebraska, then a meteorite crashed into my house and bathed me in radiation, causing chemicals to bond with my DNA making me super-powered.  I'm nothing special just a radioactive farm hand really.  Just a kid who grew up on a farm and came in contact with chemicals.  And by chemicals I mean the sciency kind not magical in anyway because how would magic give you super powers.

As Tommy passed the note he tried to give an earnest smile, but wound up with an impersonation of Jack Nicholson.

Richard picked up the lie immediately.

"Nice try, but you're dealing with a scientist and an engineer remember? Radiation would just give you cancer, as would any chemicals that would bond to you. It also doesn't explain at all how you have been to Atlantis. Also, next time you lie, don't write it down. I can look over this, and realize you mentioned magic. Something which doesn't apply to your explanation at all and never even came up in the conversation. I've already dealt with one person who lied to me about something far more important, so please don't force me to have to go through the process again with you." Richard replied exasperatedly.

Tommy smack his head agaisnt the table to chastise himself for being so careless. It took him no time to give Richard a new note.

 Alright, well, my family is all mages just like Leland, except for some reason instead of becoming a mage myself my abilities manifested in super-strength and durability.  It's an unprecedented thing really, they've never seen someone manifest abilites like mine before.  I need you to promise you won't tell anyone, well maybe you can tell the rest of the team, and I think Leland knows.  But if word about how I'm magic starts floating around I could be in serious trouble.

Aaron recovered quickly from the staff to the neck. He was going to have to learn how to use this thing fast. He then noticed Katie joining Jason.

"Well 2 on 1 wouldn't' be fair," Aaron stomped on the ground and a giant ice wall separated Jason and Katie.

He made his way over to Katie's side,"Let's see how you deal without Jason," he smirked.

 

[CounterAttack]

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me," Katie murmured. She knew Aaron would beat her in a one-on-one match. It wasn't in her nature to forfeit, though, and she took up a fighting stance, growing cactus spines from her gloves in the same manner she had used on her plant boots.

"All right, I guess. Bring it," she answered Aaron. She figured he would be faster than her, and there was the possibility he wouldn't restrict his attacks the way Jason had done.

Aaron shifted his feet again. Though this time ice sprang up form underneath Katie. It started to creep up her boots killing of some of the plants. He then charged at Katie with the staff. He swung though he stopped an inch from her face.

"Give up?" he smiled.

"Don't worry, I won't be telling anyone else as it is up to you who you tell. Tell me, were the ancient polytheistic religions and myths of powers beyond that of mortal man really just magi? When and why did the magi decide to hide themselves away after being so highly revered by ancient and classical era mankind? Did you keep records of ancient civilizations much like the caretakers of the great library or were the works lost?" Richard asked the questions with exuberance before pausing.

"Excuse me, I shouldn't be asking so many questions so soon. It's just that, ever since the world of magic was revealed to be true to me, it has brought a new outlook on history. I have so many questions running through my mind right now because of that new outlook."

Once again, Katie felt the plants dying, and she suffered a sharp twinge of pain as a result. She tried to step away, but the frozen plants snapped off, and she quickly wove new, thicker soles before she put her feet down again, in an attempt to escape the patch of ice without hurting herself or the plants. She chuckled and said, "Never," lightly stepping away from both Aaron and the frozen floor.

As she moved, she tried to think of ways her plants could beat her opponent. Anything she tried, Aaron could just freeze and kill. That hurt her as much as it did the plants, through the semi-symbiosis she shared with them.

Aaron cradled his staff on his back as he suspended it with his arms. He slowly made his way over to Katie and closed the distance between them.

"I don't want to have to ruin such a beautiful face," Aaron exclaimed putting more emphasis on the last part making sure it got on the other side of the wall where Jason was.

Katie didn't answer, instead coming up with a drastic idea. It was a possibility, and she seized it. She stepped back further, unraveled her gloves and boots, and wrapped a couple of vines around her body from the branch on her back to hold it in place. Two of the cactus spines dropped into her hands, and the remainder of the plants coalesced into four additional arms, each holding a spine like a sword.

At a gesture from Katie, all of her cactus spines turned themselves into long palm fronds, which instantly lost all their leaves due to Aaron's cold temperature. This left her with six jagged weapons possibly capable of hurting Aaron, and she intended to use them to defend herself.

"Ohh now this seems interesting," Aaron changed his staff into a spear and hurled it at Kaite. He was in hot pursuit right after the spear ready to follow up the attack.
