What videogame do you all think has the BEST soundtrack. By this I don't just mean things like Fight-music, but stuff from cut-scenes and so on, as well as theme music and actual songs that were incorporated into the game.

For me, it has to go to Gitaroo Man, for having the most diverse range of songs in a rhythm game, as well as making them super awesome. Every time I hear Overpass I just want to shout "I won't fight you Kira! The real villain is ZOWIE!" and break into The Legendary Theme :p

For me, it would have to go to either Kingdom [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn8MMetAsfs] Hearts II [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZO1yinBXq4] or Nier [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oT9gS8mSnY&feature=related]

All tracks on either OSTs are just amazing.

Final Fantasy VII.

That boss battle theme is what keeps me going when things look rough.
I got ninjad in the first three posts. So I'll have to say Crisis Core or Dissidia, those had great soundtracks too.

Homeworld. It's a beautiful game, with a fittingly beautiful soundtrack.

Also this.

Honourable mention: Metroid Fusion, for making the most of the GBA's limited music capacity and making a soundtrack that was actually pretty good.

Anything made by John Williams.
I think he only scores films, not video games.

OT: Halo and Halo 2 had amazing soundtracks. Halo 3 and Reach were pretty good soundtracks. ODST was just bad. Other good soundtracks (in my opinion) include Fable 3, God of War, and Gears of War 2.
Sorry, no. Say what you like about ODST - I personally will say it was epic - its soundtrack was one of the best soundtracks in any game. I would definitely put it up there alongside the other Halos (and above Reach, which had the least amazing soundtrack overall - though it was still damn good).

Easy this for me. An old RTS for the PC called Praetorians. It had it's own awesome soundtrack. And for the single player story it used Rob Dougan. You always felt like such a bad ass :D

C&C: Tiberian Sun. Red Alert has Hell March, but Tiberian Sun has the better overall soundtrack IMO. Everything about it just nails the atmosphere of the game perfectly.

Honorable mention goes to Mass Effect 2.

Actually, I'm all for the Halo OSTs as well. There's just something so memorable about them!

Especially the Mjolnir Mix they got Steve Vai to do for Halo 2 :p

Standalone? Yeah, it has some pretty good moments. But in a Halo game? No. It sounded like Rookie's helmet radio got stuck on Jazz FM.

EDIT: Sins of a Solar Empire had a pretty good soundtrack as well.
...Lol. Well, I thought it perfectly conveyed the mood of the whole game, and was also a cool piece standalone. Just because it didn't have awesome orchestral wanks doesn't mean it's not good for a Halo game :p

Chrono Cross (type in Chrono Cross on youtube and all the entries will be from its soundtrack) and God of War 3. I actually notice the music.

I'll pick the first. Some of the later soundtracks are better as independant entities, but they're not implimented as well IMO.
