OT: I had some Vodka one time that was about 100 proof or so.

Don't drink much, but I have to say that my favorite high proof alcohol is Tequila.

Not sure on a taste, I'm pretty sure it removes the taste buds. Back when I used to drink I actually preferred tequila and Mezcal (mezcal is the one with the worm).

I heard somewhere that drinking a shot o' that with the worm is supposed to make you trip out something. Is there any truth to that?

I've heard that too but by the time we'd get to the worm we were well and truly legless so any bonus effect was lost on us.

well i tried some moonshine once, im not sure what strength it was... i do drink absinthe on a regular basis, although i drink it with water, like its meant to be, i still prefer it stronger than most people, i normally water it down to about 25-25%, but you can take it down to as much as wine strength.

Black Seal 151 Rum. I actually fuelled my Zippo with it for a few days!

Although, it didn't have a label on it, I did have slivoviz. Aged ten years and straight from the warzone of the former Yugoslavia, given to my brother in law as part of a UN fuel deal that took place in a mafia stronghold in a basement bar in Sarajevo!

A couple of them was enough to drop you right back into your sofa and not move again for a bit!

OT: "tuica" or better "palinca". For maximum effect, drink it with your grandad on a cold spring morning.

Okay, I will try to explain this briefly...

All Mezcal is Tequila, not all Tequila is Mezcal. Mezcal is the stuff with the worm in it and occasionally Sotol will have a worm as well.

For the record, I vacation very often to Terlingua, Texas situated in about 10 from the border between Texas and Mexico. We go to Ojinaga, Mexico quite often and we get the alcohol from there and then carry it back into Texas.

Now, I've had Mezcal on about 10 different occasions, 8 times I just passed out and slept, 2 of those 10 times I had super vivid dreams.

On Mezcal, my friend woke up in the night and was in the loft of the house (very dark) and couldn't see anything then started yelling, "Holy Fuck! I'm BLIND!"

But none of the people (over 20 different people) I've drank Mezcal with have claimed to of had any sort of trip, the only thing close has been some very vivid dreams.

Sotol on the other hand is a bit different. It comes from a different cactus than Mezcal or Tequila and has a bit thicker consistency than that of Tequila. It's not really noticeably, but it is.

With my group of friends Sotol is our reunion drink, meaning whenever a bunch of us get together we drink it.

I've had it 8 times that I can recall.

1st time: woke up on the roof of the house

2nd time: woke up outside on a couch with a girl (we ended up falling in love and dating for a few years)

3rd time: just passed out like normal people

4th time: set the valley on fire (it was 4th of July, and Sotol doesn't mix with fireworks.)

5th time: Thought I saw God

6th time: passed out like normal person

7th time: remember taking the first shot, nothing after that

8th time: Nothing really significant happened other than I was taking shots with a millionaire

Now, my friends have had about the same experiences, but no one has ever reported having any sort of "trippy" time on the stuff (except for me thinking I saw God.)

I'm experimented with Absinthe a bit to, and haven't had any hallucinations or anything.

EDIT: Quick note, Sotol can also be used to run vehicles and clean carburators, don't know why, but it is possible.

Nah, it's just something done for the sake of novelty. I can't say I'm much of an expert on Mezcal though, but I know at least that much. As far as Mexican booze is concerned, I stick with their beers and their tequila. Their beers aren't really anything too fancy, but they're better than the generic American beers.

On the topic of most alcoholic though, I can't really say I liked everclear, but I do like the really stout beers. I heard that a brewery in Scotland came out with a beer that's 41% called "Sinking Bismark", but I'd never pay $120 for a single beer. However, I have tried and do like the Dogfish Head 120 Minute I.P.A. and it's about 18%

Isn't 175 the highest on that scale, equaling 100% alcohol volume? I don't know that system very well, I always use %.

Absinthe has what like 75% or so? I tried that. I also tried Stroh Rum wihich had 80% I think.

Whiskey is still the king at around 40-50% though.

Take the proof divide it by two and you get the percentage of alcohol.

so, Everclear = 95%, Absinthe = 70%, Jeremiah Weed (whiskey)= 50%

and my personal favorite is tequila which is generally about 80 proof or 40% alcohol by volume.

Edit: Oh, and I've had Mezcal and Sotol as well. Both are made down in the Chihuahua desert (Mexico/West Texas) from cacti. After drinking Sotol I literally thought I had seen God. I've got some pretty damn interesting stories about Mezcal as well, like when my friend thought he'd gone blind.

The strongest that i have tried, and actually liked was a sort of Whiskey. I have tried homebrew a few times, but it tasted like shit every time. (Somewhere around 70 or 80% i think)

Absinthe at like 80%. What is this "proof" thing people keep mentioning? Someone enlighten me please.

Example we'll use is Tequila, it's 40% alcohol or 80 proof.

So if you only have the percentage of alcohol by volume, multiply it by two to get the proof.

Or you can divide the proof by two to get the percentage of alcohol by volume.

I tried some Ouzo last night. It's greek vodka. It was 40% proof and i drunk half a bottle...i didn't get up for a long period.

You guys? I swear there's stronger electric soup somewhere.

You do realize that 40 proof, and 40% alcohol are not the same right? proof is double the percentage so 40 proof is 20% alcohol.
