so this morning I woke up panicked having just escaped from an awful nightmare wherein I was being attacked by two bears and had nothing to fight back with, and so was quickly eaten. When it comes to nightmares that take place on land, I'm always being attacked by bears, cougars, and wolves. But my worst nightmares consist of a reoccurring scenario, I am in a boat on the middle of a lake with pitch black water. Something swims by and capsizes the boat, and I get dumped into the water to come face to face with three or four enormous great white sharks that then quickly devour me, and then I wake up. This dream has been so vivid that once while being bitten (in my dream) I woke up and the skin on my stomach was turning red.

So fellow escapee's what pervades your nightmares? And which to you is scarier, a creature, or, a scenario you can't escape from?

EDIT: Glad to see so many replies on this thread of mine! :) On a side note, for any of you with animal dreams I found a site that claims to explain it a little bit. For example, the bears I was fighting in my nightmare this morning are indicative of this.. "To dream that you are being pursued or attacked by a bear, denotes aggression, overwhelming obstacles and competition. You may find yourself in a threatening situation."
Interesting?

Here is the website where I found this:

There's this one chick who's almost always in my nightmares. One night, I was being hunted down by her through a forest. Eventually I hid in some bushes, only to feel her pin me to the ground with her knee, she started talking to me (I didn't respond), and then she stabbed me in the spinal column, and I couldn't move my legs.

I need to see a psychiatrist. This shit is getting annoying.

Sounds like you've been playing too much Red Dead Redemption.

OT: I find scenarios scarier than creatures. Being lost in a dark wood at night, feeling like I'm being stalked is my recurring nightmare.

I once had a dream with zombies chasing me, where I was actually shitting myself in terror. I woke up sweating and everything, scared half to death.

I think the worse nightmare I've had, was a long time ago, yet I wrote it down to remember it. Really freaked me out, I was in a cold sweat when I woke.

It involved our house, which at the time was a Big, 7 bedroom Victorian building. In the nightmare, I was the only one there and I don't what it was, but I was being hunted by something. It just gave me that feeling, when the hair on the back of you neck stands up. Everytime I went into a room, I had to solve a puzzle and if I got it wrong, the thing would come in and I'd have to escape somehow. I never saw what it was, just a black shadow.

When I woke, I was soaked, panting and had to turn the light on in my room.

Haven't had that since I was little though.

Now actually worried about sleeping...As, if I have this dream again, I will find the OPs address and beat them with a stick! ( Joking...if you couldn't tell...)

I haven't had nightmares since I was a kid. Not because nightmares are only for kids, but when I was 14 I started liking werewolf movies. And when I was about 15 I had a dream where I transformed into one, after that whenever a nightmare starts I becomes a werewolf and everything is fine.

Rule 34 x Favorite Cartoon Characters x Dreams =

Fortunately, those dreams rarely occur, but they still haunt me at daytime.

I don't have them. My friend, however, reports of recurring nightmares where people she cares about just float away (as if on a conveyor belt), only to have them speed back again right in her face.

My nightmares involve me being kept from getting through school. No monsters, no demons, just conditions impeding my academic achievement indefinately. What the fuck is wrong with me?

Oh, I GOT this. I actually creeped out my friends by re-telling this nightmare once. (It was okay, we were talking about scary dreams). So here goes:

I'm at my middle-school, at night. My friend and I (a friend who doesn't exist in real life) have broken in, because of a string of grisly murders in the school. The police can't find the murderer, and my friend and I suspect he's been hiding in the school. Because we're stupid, we split up. I start searching classrooms with a flashlight. I don't get very far.

Suddenly, the perspective of the dream changes. I'm now my friend, and I'm in the school library. I'm sitting down, leaning against a bookcase. There's a dark figure standing over me. I can't make it out, it's just a tall, dark, blur. And it's getting closer. It's standing directly in front of me. I feel cold.

But now I'm myself again, and I can hear my friend screaming. I follow the sound to the library. I slam through the doors and see a tall figure wearing a black cloak. There's someone else, leaning against a bookcase, but I can't make them out. Everything except for the figure is blurry. He turns around. I can see his face.

He's.....my friend. I ask him what happened. He says nothing. I know something is wrong, but I can't focus. I can't see anything but my friends face, and this black cloak. I glance at the other person, on the ground. Whoever he is, he's surrounded by red. I dimly realize it's blood. Something is very wrong. I look back to my friend. There's blood dripping out of his mouth. I ask again what happened. He says nothing, begins to walk towards me. I edge around him, trying to get close to the body. We begin circling each other, holding eye-contact. Now there's blood dripping down his forehead. Out of his eye. There's blood all over his face. I'm standing just a few feet away from the body, but I can't look away. My friend's eye falls out of it's socket, revealing nothing behind it but a silver dome. Then my friend's face slides right off.

His real face, (and I know that this is his real face) is made of silver. It's like a mask, it has eyes, a nose, and a mouth. (though the eyes don't have holes because those ARE his eyes.) It's covered in blood. I trip and fall over what I realize to be my dead friend's legs. Suddenly, he's standing right over me. In the dream, I get a sense of deja vu. His arms are outstretched. In my mind, I begin to realize that I am GOING. To DIE. And there's nothing I can do about it. Two white-gloved hands emerge from the sleeves of his cloak. I feel one last moment of terror, before realizing again that I can't stop what's happening. There's no sense being afraid if I'm going to die anyway. Might as well die happily. Then his hands grab the sides of my face. Now, as I look into those silver orbs, I almost hear his thoughts. He wants me to. He tells me why he was wearing my friend's face as a mask, though I can't put it into words. He says he's grown bored of his old face. That he wants a new one. Then he tells me that I am not going to die happily. Cold finger-nails dig into my skin, and the last thing I do...Is scream. Then I wake up.

most of my nightmares usually involves being chased and bitten by a wolf/giant spider. I have others that involve zombies but usually i find them more funny than scary, although i don't know why.

All my nightmares involve being perched atop some high structure being blown about by the wind, eventually I fall off and I fall for what seems like hours, then SPLAT, I wake up and my whole body aches. Also I have terrible nightmares where I'm strapped down to something, and I'm in the pitch dark and I just know something is waiting to do me harm, I always wake up before such point but they are still terrifying.

I had nightmares when I was a kid. Now I mostly dream about what I was doing the day before, or about work.
I've had some dreams where I wore a T-shirt and stained sweats to work and got fired.

The most recent nightmare I can remember involved 2 members of the escapist - one of whom was trying to kill me, and another of whom I was trying to escape with - I can't remember the circumstances or anything beyond that, however. As far as my dreams go, it was actually a pretty good one - I rarely ever, ever have pleasant dreams. Actually today, my nightmare decided to pull a full on mindfuck. I remember feeling my phone vibrate in my pocket (in the dream) so I pick it up to answer it. I hit the answer button, hold it to my ear and wake up (I can tell because everything goes black because my eyes are shut and I can feel myself lying down rather than standing) but then from out of nowhere this voice states into my ear as if I was on the phone: "You're in big trouble, buster." Freaked me out.

They always involve me being chased but running really slowly, like I'm in a swimming pool. Then suddenly something weird will happen and the dream will change to something completely different.

Anyway, here's the worst nightmare I've ever had, recounted creepypasta style:

Two archaeologists were digging a trench right in the middle of a massive field (about 2 miles across) surrounded by skyscrapers when they found a mask buried in the ground, made of something like bronze. The strangest thing about it was that it had eyes. Real, human eyes. They flicked between the two men, seeming unstable but utterly terrified. The archaeologists were confused but not frightened, and began to discuss what it was. Suddenly, unexpectedly it let out a groan. It was an unnerving noise of fear and anguish, and it clearly frightened them. It did it again. They shouted at it to try to stop it, but the mask groaned again. It continued, getting more and more frequent until suddenly the man on the right fell to the ground as his body slowly stiffened, shrank and turned to metal. Horrified, the second man ran as fast as he could to get away from the sound, but he could feel the same thing happening to him. He stumbled and slowed down, finding it harder and harder to keep going as his limbs solidified. Eventually he flopped onto the grass, motionless.

I woke up just as he started groaning.

there I was, fighting people in a Bioshock-esque world. bunch of of action, I get shot, bloodied, beaten and some drink forced down my throat. I wake up in a small room, talking to some voice over an intercom. I say
"why are they doing this?"
"he is going to kill you for your money"
"what makes him think if he kills me he'll get my money?"

*alarm clock sounds and I wake up, then I hit the snooze button and have a mini-sleep*

"because he's your brother"

naturally I informed my brother about this...
