Australia? Safe? You mean the country currently filled with crocodile-infested water?

I think the only half-safe place is Antarctica. But honestly who wants to live there... so much snow and not a single skiing slope around.

Yeah yeah whatever. The Yellowstone Caldera could eat North America, there's probably an angry volcano in the Himalayas, probably something terrifying in Australia, there's nukes pointing everywhere, we're one big rockslide from a megatsunami...

No point in getting all worked up about it.

I would. Except that in a volcanic holocaust, Antarctica would collapse underneath the sea. So, Siberia it is, then.

You do know Old Faithful at Yellowstone is a supervolcano also? Goodbye America.

Oh, and Krakatau is reappearing, so goodbye Asia.

So, in the volcano apocolypse, I think Australia is safe.

If all three go off (unlikely, but... plausible, I think) or even just Yellowstone then the resulting ash cloud would more or less fuck up the entire planet. To say nothing of the flooding after the ice caps get melted.[footnote]I'm no vulcanologist, this is all just speculation[/footnote] I'm afraid that in this hypothetical 'volcano apocalypse', nowhere is safe. The most to be done is convince yourself that it won't happen, and follow the advice of my favourite propaganda slogan...

I'm not worried even though I live in Skandinavia, and I really don't it's gonna effect me.
(I'm not even close to the so called "Hot Spots")

Spain will act as our shield I'm sure.

But before the volcano, there's the asteroids, solar flares, black holes, zombies...

Hehe It's in the Daily Mail so I wouldn't read to much into it.

Being a geologist I have this sad obsession with volcanoes, so I can let you know there are far worse ones out there... like there's an island off the coast of Africa that if it has even a little eruption could wipe out half the east coast of the USA through Tsunami action.

Plus there's the super-volcano everyone knows and loves in yellow stone, and it's big brother in Green Land, and... [sub]and...[/sub]

*Cough* Daily Mail *cough*

As a person who lives in Europe, I am thoroughly unworried. An asteroid could hit the planet, the cockroaches could murder us in our sleep, worrying about them isn't going to stop them, and it's a remote possibility so there are a lot more productive things to worry about.

According to the Mail, everything can and will kill us.
The Volcano will give us cancer!

That seems to be what the daily mail would usually say:p

I believe I heard that Old Faithful (or a geyser similar to Old Faithful) is a super volcano quite similar to that.

So basically we're all doomed.
No, all of Yellowstone valley is the volcano.

Yeaaaaaaaaaah.

This sort of thing does actually happen, but what we do need to bare in mind is that technology today is probably going to be the answer in helping us prepare and should the thing actually do its buisness on us - help preserve ourselves. Thing is were are likely to see it coming, and in everyday life...well...I am more worried about getting mugged and stabbed walking around Bristol at night than some volcano that people are undoubtly watching and monitoring around the clock.

Well it says that wiping out all life in Europe is a worst case scenario. Even then that is only if it erupts. So no I don't see it as a big problem.

Sorry about just posting a video instead of commentary, but I believe this sums up my feelings about this thread:
