Seriously, what? This can't be right. How in the hell do you make movies out of
Tetris.
I'm going to go watch Wreck-It Ralph now. Maybe it has the answers.
Here's the funny thing: it'd be very easy to make a movie (though probably not three)
about Tetris. Think about it: here's the first major piece of software to break through the Iron Curtain, and it's not trying to destroy our infrastructure or inundate us with propaganda (unless it's really, really subtle); it's just a game. It shows that Soviet programmers are just as nerdy and weird as ours, and we're really not so different. Picture the conversation, from 1987 or so:
First Programmer: You've got to try this new program!
Second Programmer: Why? What is it?
FP: It's a game. There are blocks falling from the sky, and you've got to make them form lines, so they disappear!
SP: ...Why?
FP: Um... Well... For Mother Russia?
SP: ...Okay.
Not "you dirty commie!" or "where's McCarthy when you need him?". Just "...okay". Evidence that the Cold War calming down wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Plus, all the major players (save one) are still alive, and they all speak English. There's a great movie there. But again, that's about, not of.
