What do we all think of them so far?

I don't see a whole lot of those Medic upgrades but I've got all of them for the Pyro, and the Axtinguisher is the only one I found to be completely pointless. But then, it is a melee weapon, so what can they really do?

I wish they could come more often instead of making us wait for several months in between those "Meet The.." movies and character updates. I suppose all the programming, painting, polishing and patching takes a while to do, though.

To remind you what this was originally about, what do you think about the new updates?

[EDIT]
I've not see Tuesday's update yet, but looking at the package so far, I can't help but be impressed. The best thing I've seen so far is the two new maps set in an alpine backdrop. It just looks really nice. That makes me a shallow person, right?

[Another one for good luck]
I actually had a look on the TF2 website about how they go about making the upgrades for each character, and the criteria is pretty formidable. One of them asks "does this weapon encourage new/adaptive styles of gameplay?" I think that's definetly achieved with all of the updated weapons so far, particularly the Kritzkreig and the Flare-Gun.

Well they're free, so presumably Valve isn't going to spend many of its resources on content that is unlikely to generate additional money.

personally I love the idea, but I wish they had more for everyone, not just pyro and medic. Also, some of the achievements for medic are unreasonably difficult, but o well... anyway, I love the added demention with looking for players with different weapons setups and different play styles than usual, it keeps the game fresh

There's Codgo, defending Valve in every aspect. Adorable in it's predictability and pointlessness. Seriously, this is a forum of Valve fans and fanboys (myself among the former).

As for me I wish they would port them to the 360, maybe they'll make us pay for an expansion when they finish. Or give it for free because it's fair. Or leave the 360 with an unspoilt and reasonably balanced version of TF2 aside from some damn annoying glitches that they refuse to fix. (I say refuse because I'm told by Codgo that the PC version has them fixed).

Get out of here you fucking Halo fanboy, stay out of things you don't know anything about.
Rowr! Looks like I stepped into a catfight. Don't make too much noise or you'll attract the mods.

I'm quite happy with them so far. The only thing that bothered me about them was playing with a team thats 3/4 pyros. Thankfully that was over after about a week and had settled down to about 1/3 to 1/4 pyros per team.

To the OP: don't underestimate the melee. The Axetinguisher will one-shot anyone who is on fire and isn't overhealed except a Heavy. An overhealed Heavy takes two swings. :D I still use the standard axe because I like having it to use on other pyros and my backburner makes short work of people who don't notice me.

I'll also bet that the 360 version will get the upgrades when all of them have been finished.

Screw the backburner, the normal flamethrower! That compressed air blast can be so much fun!

What new weapons would you want to see for the classes? I for one would love to see demomen with proximity mines though I know it is op.
Well it is basically garunteed that the melee upgrade for the heavy is going to be brass knuckles. Sort of obvious since his melee is the fists.

As for the scout, maybe a shotgun that shoots faster.
For the engineer a wrench that upgrades turrets faster would be nice.
EDIT: I will post more ideas as I come up with them.

Since I dont have my new pc yet, I have no idea how hard some of the new achievements are, or what the requirements to get the new weapons are.
Someone please enlighten me.

These updates will take time for the reason they are NOT a big developer, they also have Episode 3 and Left 4 Dead on the plate right now.

The medic update didn't go to plan as they wanted because people started to grind for the achievements, but they have learnt from the mistakes of that and the recent Pyro update was much better. They lowered the amount of achievements needed to get the new weapons which instantly cut down on the grind and other problems such as too many people playing that class.

They could have just left TF2 alone but its interesting how they are experimenting with the game, but Valve always does that. They are trying to find new ways to make these games fun and rewarding for the players.
Wow, so I disagree..

The medic achievements were great, valve don't give a @#$% about people grinding for them, they just want people to have fun. The Pyro ones were equally as fun, the Heavey ones will be a riot.

They are free additions to an already amazing game. It is my view that TF2 isn't unbalanced, even with most classes not yet "unlocked". If you disagree...please... bring it (steamID: llaunay)

They aren't doing a very good job in the balancing department. From what I understand, the unlockables are supposed to be viable alternatives to standard weapons. Instead...

Medic update:

Blutsauger - effectively allows you to take on snipers, engis, pyros, sometimes even scouts, if you learn how to use it. The only 'drawback' is that you don't get crits which were extremely unlikely to ever occur for a medic anyways? I'm weeping blood here, guys. I don't know HOW I could deal without that.

Kritzkrieg - I just don't see anyone using it. At all. The uber is how games are won and lost, so I don't know how to fix this. But the Kritz is barely a viable alternative even when you give it to a soldier; the solly promptly attracts the entire enemy team's rage, and is gone before he can finish reloading rockets.

Ubersaw - There is no downside to this. I don't care about this 'slower attack speed'. A skilled medic finds some poor isolated sod and spanks him hard with the ubersaw and blutsauger, and uber ahoy!

Pyro update:

Flare gun - if you look at how much damage it does altogether, it's pretty impressive, and it gives the pyro a ranged weapon. But unfortunately, burning is really not too great against enemies at full health, and that's most of what you're shooting at from a range. Plus it's usually quite easy for them to run away and extinguish. It's kinda viable, but compared to the shotgun, way too situational and hard to rely on it. Maybe speed up projectile, increase impact damage, lower burn time and ammo capacity.

Backburner - used to be downright ridiculous with the +75 HP and the broken hitbox detection; for pubbing, the vanilla flamer wasn't even viable. Valve quickly fixed the hitbox, but it was still way unbalanced, and finally, they completely nerfed the HP bonus. The BB was supposed to be for ambush, but you're lucky to get 3 crits before you lose the back hitbox - the result is that it's very rarely useful, especially compared to the air blast.

Axtinguisher - situational. Very situational. As soon as your enemy is on fire, he is aware of you, and getting into melee without being shot at is tricky at best. Like the flare gun, it can be great and immensely fun, but most of the time... Well, don't count on much.

Regardless, eagerly awaiting the heavy update, even though it'll conflict with getting ready for uni.

Actually I found the BB brutal when it comes to bumrushing blue when they're stacking for an attack.
