Agreed, but Penguin is REALLY stupid... I mean he's a fat guy with trick umbrellas, he'd take A LOT of work.
I dunno. I can kinda see him being portrayed as a fat, narcissistic, capitalist villain. They could get Rush Limbaugh to play him.

The riddler as a zodiac style serial killer, with batman being blamed for the murders because he owned up to Dent's murders.

Recently a graphic novel came out entitle simply "Joker". Now obviously they can't bring the Joker back in the next movie, but in the book, other villians such as Penguin, The Riddler, and Killer Croc are presented in the same type of "real world" grittiness that the Nolan movies portray, to great effect. I'm not normally a Riddler or Killer Croc guy, but after seeing these incarnations, I'd say just about any character they choose as a villian would be pretty good, as long as it was in the same style. Me personally, I'd like to see a "Batman coming to grips with his own psyche" story, really trying to answer the question of who's the dominant ego, Batman or Bruce Wayne, and which is the mask?

If Nolan and his team of writers can work the characters well, I'd say Blackmask and the Riddler.

I heard that the new movie is going to take place between Batman Begins and Dark Knight, so we'll still have a beloved Batman, an alive Rachel, and a non-evil Harvey.
The villains I'm rooting for are The Ridder and Mr. Freeze; Riddler should be based more on the Riddler from "Dark Knight, Dark City", where he goes insane from reading a cultist's journal. Throwing in a hint of Jigsaw from "Saw" would definitely help.
As for Freeze, he should be less like a pun-spouting Austrian and more of a necrophiliac who stabs people with sharpened icicles.
I'm not sure about who could play Freeze, but I'm pulling for Johnny Depp as the Riddler.

If the new movie is going to be after Dark Knight, they could always adapt the "No Man's Land" storyarc, with Gotham destroyed by an earthquake, the Penguin becoming the most powerful crimelord in the city, and a hot Chinese girl as Batgirl.

Quoting the guy we need: I'm Bane! I break people!

Really, they need to come up with something good because it really feels as if they have played out all their cards using the joker in the second one. Or maybe Nolan can do the smart thing for him and bow out from the franchise on top. That would suck but would be understandable.

IMHO, Bane is the way to go, the problem, would have to be the casting, though. Really, who CAN play Bane?
Chuck Norris.

Actually, come to think of it, I'd love to see The Riddler. The only problem is he's a lot like Joker.
He's also not very menacing or threatening, the Joker REALLY upped the Ante on Menace, so the next villain definately has to pose some sort of threat to be interesting enough.
I believe that the Joker's purpose in the second film was just to bring chaos into batman's life. To screw everything up with no plan whatsoever. The Riddler however, would fill a different role in batman's life. So far in these newer films, we haven't seen much of batman's "detective" side. Which is a central part of his character in my book. The Riddler is always one step ahead of everybody, and he teases the city by actually leaving clues as to what he's going to do next.

Played by Johnny Depp, and I think you got yourself some actual competition with the Joker villain. The Joker may be one of the best villains, but that's not to say that other villains can't appeal to audiences in other ways.

Either that, Or Harley Quinn played by Helena Boham Carter as a successor to Joker would be interesting..

I would actually say Johnny Depp as the Riddler, the guy is practically born for the role of a psychotic to be honest, Heath Ledgers's take on the Joker was really good and surprised me a lot, no one expected him to do it so well and he still pulled it off. But now look at it this way, Johnny Depp is known for playing insane characters (Jack Sparrow anyone?) so surely he'd fit the role of someone like the Riddler. I also like the idea of Bane but maybe as a secondary character or a minion? and to have Harley in it you really need the Joker but obviously that's a little... difficult.

I would say the best villian would be the Judge (see Judgement Day from the animated series) THAT would be an awesome villian (spoilers ahead) cause not only does he take out villians himself but the judge is actually a 3rd personality created by harvey dent to redeem himself from his crimes

Couldn't they still have the Joker? I know Heath Ledger was fantastic and most likely, no one can top his performance, but The Joker is the [b/]ULTIMATE[/b] Batman villain.

Besides, he didn't die, he was just arrested. He's broken out of Arkham plenty of times before.

But, if they were going to get a new villain, I'd want it to be The Riddler.

I read somewhere that Michael Caine confirmed that Johnny Depp and Philip Seymoure Hoffman would play the Riddler and the Penguin. However, I think it might have been an April Fools joke

'Zsasz', you'll find. He's not a bad choice, for all intents and purposes he's simply a serial killer.

Keep in mind the 'Police to test new enhancement drug' news that scrolled along the newsbar in one of the special features. Bane?

NO, I'm sorry but he's not, one relies on jokes and is a murdering psycopath, the other is intelligent and one of the ony people to figure out Batman's identity.

On a differnet note i would like to see Hush http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hush_(comics)

Again I'm sorry for yelling at you, but it's my pet peeve when people say Riddler is similar to the Joker

The riddler a cyber terrorist who can threaten gotham on an entirely different level, with somebody to back him up as muscle. That's my shitty idea. Don't know though, because let's face it, most batman villians are gimmicky in some way. But, hell, they made the joker work, and i honestly didn't think it could be done until i saw it. So what the hell, i'll go with whatever he's got planned. Filming starts in 2010 according to Gary Oldman...
