Recommended Hardware Specifications:
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
Memory: 2 GB DDR-RAM, expandable to 4GB
Display: 141. TFT SXGA LCD display, 1400x1050 resolution
Storage: 80 GB Hard Drive, 5200 RPM CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive
Networking/Communications: Integrated 802.11b/g wireless, Integrated 10/100/1000, Ethernet, USB 2.0 port, IR port
Power: Lithium-ion battery(4.5 hr capacity)
OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista (I have Windows Vista Home Premium already, so no worries on that since I can just load it up myself)
Warranty: 3-Yr Warranty(Most likely won't get this)
Estimated Cost(Includes other software needed): $2,300

So, yeah... Do netbooks have this? Once again, I'd like to reiterate, I'm not laptop savvy.
Is this, like, what your college is telling you to buy?

Yes, it is. I suck with laptops, I don't know, something about it being portable makes my brain shut off. I'm used to making my lovable desktops >_<

uhhhhhhhhh notebooks ftw?

bet seriously the only thing a netbook is good for is word processing and maybe spread sheets and u have 2 be incredibly dull to only do that on a computer. besides notebooks are compact enough and can fit in a briefcase or backpack and far more powerful so just go with a notebook

I did. He's just pissed his parents wouldn't spend that much money on him.

He doesn't have to appreciate what my parents did. A) my parents spoiled me and b) I manipulated and played them against each other so I do deserve some scathing comments.

Haha other then the fact that hes always calling people out and basically a well-trained troll(One in disguise)...nothing really. I've always felt that way about him, he just likes to nit-pick at everything. It grows tiresome after a while on these boards.

I'd like to extend my deepest gratitude once again though for helping me find this laptop. My friend that attends the college I plan on going to said that it will run everything there just fine.

I commend you, good sir. Here, have an Internet *hands Internets*

My mum is buying my laptop, then I have to pay her back... Sigh...

Can you manipulate your parents into buying me a laptop?

If I knew you in real life there is a very good chance I could.

I also wish people would stop referring to me as "sir".

Also, Alex, Do you enjoy CS? It will be my first semester attending college for the CS Major. I was wondering if its an enjoyable line of work and is there a market for it? Or is it oversaturated? =/
I think it really depends on your professors and the details of your degree program. A good CS program can teach you tons of useful stuff. Not just about computers, either. A bad CS program... well, you'll hopefully still get some useful job skills.

CS done well prepares you to go into a number of different careers. You can do a lot more than just application programming. In college, I really enjoyed AI, distributed systems, and theory (yes, theory -- it's pretty cool and really helpful).

I'm a government contractor so I can't tell you much about how the regular software industry is doing right now.

Can you give me some more details? Like, did your department say this was required for some software you would need to be running or something?

Well, as I am pretty clueless as to what exactly entails all of these programs (like, what it takes to run them) since I am new, but very very eager to learn, I'll list them for you.

Labview, AutoCAD, MS Office 2007 Enterprise, MS Project 2007, MS OneNote 2007, MS InfoPath 2007, MS Visual Studio 2005, ROBOLAB version 2.9.2, MATLAB Release 2007a, MS SharePoint Designer 2007, MS Publisher 2007, MS Groove 2007, MS Visio 2007, MS Expression Web, Norton Antivirus Corp Ed. 10.2, Additional "toolboxes" for MATLAB.

Thats all of the Required Software. It will cost me an extra $225 for the school to upload it all into my laptop, but its better that than me trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to get all of those programs.

Thats really great too Alex, it makes me even more sure that I want to pursue this career field. I have been admitted to the college, its just a matter of financial aid on whether or not I will actually attend it. Its all still up in the air =/ I would have gotten a $20,000 scholarship if I had went there for the Fall semester, but now due to a recent merge with NYU, its much harder to get into AND the scholarships are much more scarce.

Oh well though, thats life for ya.
