Also, Alex, Do you enjoy CS? It will be my first semester attending college for the CS Major. I was wondering if its an enjoyable line of work and is there a market for it? Or is it oversaturated? =/
I think it really depends on your professors and the details of your degree program. A good CS program can teach you tons of useful stuff. Not just about computers, either. A bad CS program... well, you'll hopefully still get some useful job skills.
CS done well prepares you to go into a number of different careers. You can do a lot more than just application programming. In college, I really enjoyed AI, distributed systems, and theory (yes, theory -- it's pretty cool and really helpful).
I'm a government contractor so I can't tell you much about how the regular software industry is doing right now.

Can you give me some more details? Like, did your department say this was required for some software you would need to be running or something?

Well, as I am pretty clueless as to what exactly entails all of these programs (like, what it takes to run them) since I am new, but very very eager to learn, I'll list them for you.
Labview, AutoCAD, MS Office 2007 Enterprise, MS Project 2007, MS OneNote 2007, MS InfoPath 2007, MS Visual Studio 2005, ROBOLAB version 2.9.2, MATLAB Release 2007a, MS SharePoint Designer 2007, MS Publisher 2007, MS Groove 2007, MS Visio 2007, MS Expression Web, Norton Antivirus Corp Ed. 10.2, Additional "toolboxes" for MATLAB.
Thats all of the Required Software. It will cost me an extra $225 for the school to upload it all into my laptop, but its better that than me trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to get all of those programs.
Thats really great too Alex, it makes me even more sure that I want to pursue this career field. I have been admitted to the college, its just a matter of financial aid on whether or not I will actually attend it. Its all still up in the air =/ I would have gotten a $20,000 scholarship if I had went there for the Fall semester, but now due to a recent merge with NYU, its much harder to get into AND the scholarships are much more scarce.
Oh well though, thats life for ya.
