And you don't hear much about Operation Flashpoint any more either. At the time it appeared on tons of "best game ever" lists but now it seems to have been totally forgotten.
OF=Fucking awesome. And if they keep OF2 like the same, But with better graphics/interactivity/Good stuff.

Anyone here played Sacrifice?

The quote on the box really says it all.

A truly awesome RPG/RTS hybrid, sorta like Warcraft 3 played from a World of Warcraft perspective. You are a wizard, you steal souls from dead enemies and use them to summon your army, and your goal is to destroy your opponent's shrine while keeping yours safe.

This is a game I got for free along with my old computer but never bothered to try it until a year and a half ago. Although I never played it online, the single player campaign kicked ass with a imaginative story, where you accept different assignments from a couple of rival gods, eventually forcing you to choose sides. Depending on which gods you choose to work for, you end up with different units, different spells, different missions and different endings. And since there's five gods, that's a lot of replay value.

Great game, really needs a sequel.

Sacrifice as mentioned above ^ Love it :3

Another forgotten gem, is Dark Reign: The Future of War. Made by the Australian company Auran, this was an amazing RTS. Adaptable fog of war, a customisable waypoint system and customisable AI for your own units. Aswell as some very excellent and sometimes hilarious voice work.
It had an expansion and then a fully 3D sequel which wasn't as awesome but still okay.

I pretty much agree with the list so far, though Killer7 is really, really an aquired taste.
Personally, I strongly recommend downloading Deus Ex if you were too young to play it 8 years ago. I picked it up on the basis of great reviews and only having my crappy laptop whilst I was away from home for a month. It's looks are dated now, but I really don't think that the gameplay has ever been surpassed.
Seriously.
Deus Ex is a forgotten gem, I bought it for 5 bucks a few months ago and I would consider it to be one of the best games ever made. Its a shame only a few people know about it/remember it.

Evil Zone for the PSX. I adored it back in the day. It's a fighter like no other I've seen, with translation to rival Zero Wing

Not sure if it's old enough to meet the thread requirements, but Just Cause was a terribly overlooked game. I still play it, if only for the thrill of jumping out of a plane at six thousand feet and denying myself the use of a parachute, and somehow surviving (The fall damage makes absolutely no sense, but it's a good game honest!)

Honestly? Any game magazine I've read, Deus Ex -frequently- gets at least in the top ten of most lists they do (top five sometimes) of X games of all time, or old classics sections or bargains to buy. It's hardly forgotten heh :D In fact, a lot of the games listed on this page aren't strictly speaking, a lot of them are critically aclaimed, and will always be brought up in these type of discussions, so clearly, a lot of people have -not- forgotten them.

The only thing is, many of them aren't or weren't amazingly finacially successful, but rarely could many be conisdered forgotten.

I was always a fan of Desperadoes. Like Commandos, but Western and far better done. There are sequels, but they change the characters completely and aren't nearly as good gameplay-wise.

People seem to confuse "forgotten" with "didn't sell 5 million copies on the first day".

Now Albion... there's an awesome game that was only mildly popular in its time and completely obsure now.

Anyone remember Specter? One of the first 3D games for the computer. There were also sequels and they were still just as good. I can't find it anywhere on the net which is a first!

The best shooter series for the PS2 was by far the Timesplitters series

Amazing multiplayer fun with an awesome sense of humour, range of weapons and characters

Crusader: No Remorse.

Specifically the PC version, which I have the fondest memories of. I've got the Saturn version as well, but it doesn't have the (surprisingly well-acted) live-action video cutscenes.

I'd love to see a modern third-person action-cover-shooter remake.
