I am not impressed.
When it is user made, I wouldn't say games make it on because they're good, rather because they are popular among the users of the site.
Come on Summon night games have like 4 ratings each and no reviews.
Seriously Half-Life 2 episode 2 made it on that list twice, as standalone and as orange box, I do not like this list.

The list was compiled by Gamewise taking a poll of all their users. So not only was it compiled by a group of people who most likely aren't thinking in the "grand scheme" and are allowing themselves to be affected by their most recently enjoyed games (which I think explains why the top 20 is comprised of either very new or very old games--not taking into account smaller releases in the middle that still had a huge impact on games), but it was also compiled by people who are most likely basing their vote on either the amount of "fun" they had or the amount of nostalgia they feel for it. If this were a list compiled by critics, then you'd see choices that have more to do with games that have historical significance than just "nostalgia" and "fun-ness."TheKasp said:

So...yeah. An interesting list, but kind of predictable and shitty.
Starcraft 3 times? 3 fucking times? Isn't once enough considering the gameplay is more or less the same throughout the series? That isn't to say there weren't any updates and that they didn't improve the game, I just think other RTSs like Company of Heroes are more deserving of a spot.

I am not one for ranking the best games (I prefer lists which say things like: the top 100 in no order) but that isn't the issue here. It seems to heavily weigh on nintendo games (and I am a big nintendo fan) while missing whole swarths of influential games.
Not that a list like this can be perfect but I am sure I could make a better hash at it on my own. Just off the top of my head I can think of some massively influential and fun games that weren't there:
Doom
Tetris
Pac-Man

Another list telling us what we already know and disagree with? Even critical lists of "Best Games Ever" are disturbingly trite, these lists need to go away.
Jak and Daxter and Halo were both missing from that list. In fact none of my top ten were on there. That list does not work for me at all.
I'm just going to say it. Ocarina of Time is a fantastic game, but there are many games on that list that are better than it. As a gaming icon, few things match it, but calling it the greatest game ever made is a bit much.

I like a lot of the games on this list but it is missing a ton of titles and includes some that really shouldn't be there. I mean I loved Mario Galaxy and all but it really didn't cover all that much that its predecessors didn't cover before it and just as well for the most part. Same goes for pokemon only blue and red ever had the cultural impact the rest just slightly improved the formula over time.
As much as I love pokemon, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this point. Have you played the originals lately? They're fucking terrible. Glitchy, ugly,and unbalanced, they don't hold up at all. That's why GSC was so good, They took the originals, fixed a large number of the errors, and nearly doubled the content.TizzytheTormentor said:
