I'm just going to say it. Ocarina of Time is a fantastic game, but there are many games on that list that are better than it. As a gaming icon, few things match it, but calling it the greatest game ever made is a bit much.

At this point, I agree. There was a time when OoT was the greatest, but is has passed.

Pokemon Red/Blue

As much as I love pokemon, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this point. Have you played the originals lately? They're fucking terrible. Glitchy, ugly,and unbalanced, they don't hold up at all. That's why GSC was so good, They took the originals, fixed a large number of the errors, and nearly doubled the content.

OT: What? A user poll only determined what was popular? No shit, sherlock.

Games were still very fun to play, back then I had a blast with Red and I replayed a bit of my old Red game and still love it. You can pin it on nostalgia or whatever, but I still think the games are fun.

Well, there's no accounting for taste. I guess you're lucky enough to enjoy the games. Granted, I've played every game to a great degree and play competitive on and off, so these flaws would be more noticeable.

I was getting a bit annoyed there for a moment. I thought Final Fantasy VI wasn't going to be on the list. Though I really don't agree with it being below VII... but that's because I'm biased.

Amazing how Ocarina of Time still winds up number one on lists like these even in 2013, 16 years(I can't believe it's been that long already)after it came out.



Wait... Smackdown vs. Raw '06?

I mean... I enjoyed the game and all because of the character creation system but, that's pretty surprising. Though if that game made it on there, I'm kind of shocked No Mercy for the N64 didn't. That was held up for years as the best wrestling game ever made.

Aye I say this list is biased to the point of being a fanboy hope list.

Notice a lack of shooters, halo or otherwise, as well mmos, very few rpgs listed, and any other genre that is not one nintendo supported.

Agreed. I'd consider myself a pretty big Nintendo fan, but people who say that Ocarina of Time is the best game ever made get on my nerves a little. For its time, most likely, yes. But it hasn't really aged that well.

Anyways, might as well throw in my "ERMAHGERD THEY DIDN'T INCLUDE MY GAME THIS LIST SUCKS" titles.

No Just Cause 2 or Assassin's Creed 2? Sadface.

As I've pointed out before, while it's possible to compare games within a genre, different genres of games are incomparable.
I can objectively say that Fallout: New Vegas is a better game than Dragon Age: 2 as an RPG.
I can objectively say that Mario is better than Bubsy as a platformer.
Mario and Fallout: New Vegas are completely incomparable.

Well, OoT has topped these sorts of lists for years, hasn't it? It might not be the best game when directly compared to newer games, even in it's own series, but they judge these lists (at least when done by critics) by which had the most impact and was the best relative to when it came out. So while other games are better, they lack the importance today that OoT had 16 years ago.

I also liked that Total War made it on a list.

^This. Plus no Doom or Fallout. Also, Deus Ex in only #12. I know that not everyone think that this is the best game of all time, but it should be at least in the top 5. This list seems to be heavily influenced by young Nintendo fans. I say young, because #2 is Super Mario Galaxy, and not Super Mario Bros 3, which is the best Mario game of all time. I realize that #1 is Ocarina of Time, but it could still be selected by young Nintendo fans since it got a re-release on the 3DS.

I usually don't care and opinion is opinion and all that jazz, but what a wanky list. Both Mario Galaxy's up the top? I reckon any escapist could do a lot better. Actually, they do. I always find interesting games when a new top 10 games list thread pops up.

Personally I don't like "BEST GAME EVAR!!!" kind of lists. I have no idea what the best game I have played is. Sometimes I am in the mood to play a little Bejeweled, but I wont say I consider the game brilliant despite having more than 40 hours of it in my history. Even picking my favourite game is hard. If I get to narrow it down to favourite RPG then it gets easier, but even then it all depends on what I want to play right now, what game has meant most to me and how long it is since I've played it.

So to all those of you ranting about "This list is stupid, it doesn't include X" well, you're right. The list is stupid, so is your list. Any list subjective. I don't like Bioshock, but I have liked several 3D Sonic games. I think Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion are good games. I don't really trust anyone who say they can pick their favourite game on the spot, I couldn't do that if you held me at gunpoint.
