That list is a joke. Don't get me wrong there are good games on it but whoever made it obviously hasn't had the exposure to a wide enough variety of games and systems to be making it. And it's blatantly biased towards certain genres and franchises. It's not a top games of all time list. It's some Nintendo/Zelda fanboy's personal favorites list. And what exactly is the ranking criteria? That should always be established before presenting such a list. I mean, what's being ranked here exactly: Nostalgia, replayability, enthrallment, solid gameplay, impact on the industry..? There's zero consistency here. Had this list been presented as a personal favorites, I'd have praised the hell out of it. But the title of the topic is "The top 100 games of all time." As that, it is a total fail.

Why Mass Effect 2 in the top 20?
It's number 13... Only number 13.
Too much Nintendo, Mario as 2 and 3? No sir, This was made by a fanboy.
And no Fallout? Seriously? IMO that's the greatest game ever made. And Skyrim in the 40's...
Also there's too much older games. I recognise those are important steps for games and probably full of nostalgia for the creator of the list but newer games only improve on those.

Metal Gear, Pokemon, Chrono Trigger, Half-life, Persona, Resident Evil, Xenoblade Chronicles, Demon's Souls, Okami, Valkyria Chronicles, Psychonauts, ZoE, Monster Hunter, along with tons of Nintendo titles and not a single mention of CoD or Battlefield. No wonder everyone hates the list.

It's not perfect but I'd rather read a Nintendo fanboy's list than a CoD kid's or a "mature cinematic" gamer's list.

Well of course it's primarily older games, such lists are always biased towards older games simply due to the fact they are based upon average ratings, and who's going to go and give an old game a bad rating today? The same is not true in the reverse. Nintendo naturally rises to the top of these lists because their games that are good are so inoffensive that they always receive good ratings, it's not like one of the MMS FPS which have their competitors. Nintendo's usually alone in their games among the AAA industry.

I'm just going to say it. Ocarina of Time is a fantastic game, but there are many games on that list that are better than it. As a gaming icon, few things match it, but calling it the greatest game ever made is a bit much.

I'm going to pull out my umbrella and hide now

I have to say OoT made my childhood I still play it to this day but I have to agree it is amazing but giving it the title of best game ever made does seem a bit much. Also I feel like "super smash bros 64 " a very simple Game but endless fun to be had and lastly I feel "Morrowind" should get a spot but that could just be the fanboy in me talking.

This list seems very Nintendo-ey. Anyways, I disapprove as there is no Worms on there. Worms was revolutionary and utterly awesome. No one dislikes Worms.

Correction. Scorched Earth was revolutionary. Worms was just the most popular cash in clone. There have been others in the genre as well. Sort of like how Angry Birds ripped off the Crash the Castle game, or whatever it was called, but ended up being way more popular somehow.

PS1:
Final Fantasy Tactics (This game was 'DOOD' before 'Dood'!)

Panzer Dragoon Saga
NiGHTS Into Dreams
Guardian Heroes
Dragon Force

SEGA-GEN:
Streets of Rage II
Sonic 1/2/3
Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
How's this doing?

Well, OoT has topped these sorts of lists for years, hasn't it? It might not be the best game when directly compared to newer games, even in it's own series, but they judge these lists (at least when done by critics) by which had the most impact and was the best relative to when it came out. So while other games are better, they lack the importance today that OoT had 16 years ago.

I also liked that Total War made it on a list.
That;s a fair point but there are a lot of games that gave gaming in itself a lot more in terms of mechanics that have been carried over from game to game. OoT has that factor, but in a much smaller degree. The Thief series basically laid out the blueprint for a good stealth game to follow. OoT laid out the blueprint for other Zelda games to follow.

Don't get me wrong, OoT is a benchmark in gaming history, but in terms of games that were influenced by it, there are many more important games.

Agreed. No Worms, No Cortex Command. This list was pretty narrow.

Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage
Gauntlet IV
Comix Zone

I'm sure I'm missing a few systems and a few games.
How's this doing?
Play Beyond Oasis for the Sega Genesis. It'll make you wonder why a top down Zelda game was ever make after it in terms of combat alone.

What is it with everyones obsession for top whatever lists? I know why websites do them(easy content generating a lot of hits), but I don't understand why people keep talking about them as if they mattered.
It doesn't provoke meaningful discussion. Everyone just keeps submitting their own lists or saying 'nuh-uh'.
Why do we have to try and order games in an arbitrary list(Even more stupid when they are ranking games of different genres) instead of just talking about their strengths and weaknesses on their own or in relation to each other?

Ban all "Top [whatever]" threads. All in favour raise your hands.

I'm tempted to agree. I actually like lists that have some thought and explanation put into them, but a thread with 60 lists and NO commentary on ANY of them? Pointless. Pointless. And it's what we always end up with.

I rather suspect that no one even reads the lists. They just post their own.

I'd wager that lists that come with explanations could ditch their numbers and work just as well. Call them highlights, recap or similar. That's pretty much all those lists ever are anyway.

They could, but numbers are fun. They're just rather pointless in the absence of any context or elucidation. For example, if your favorite game was Bella Sara, I would want to know why. Because if I just see it perched at the top of your list with no explanation I'm forced to assume you are insane.

I still wouldn't need a list or a number to tell you that though. Just saying "this is my favourite game" is enough(and just as pointless without context).
