For MY GOTY, Portal 2, Saints Row The Third, and Deus Ex Human Revolution and possibly Arkham Asylum are contending for it.

I don't like Uncharted, I don't care about The Elder Scrolls, and the others aren't nearly as good or potentially good as those games.

As for other places' GOTY? Skyrim and Modern Warfare 3 probably.

My game of the year is Gears of War 3, since it's the most fun I've had in the series. I'm also smart enough to know that Skyrim will win Game of the Year, simply because it was developed by Bethesda, and as we all know, Bethesda games, no matter how broken, will always win game of the year.
Blah blah blah. Is it so hard to accept that you're outnumbered by people who genuinely think Bethesda make great games?
I'm not denying that I'm outnumbered, especially on these here forums. I'm denying that they make great games. Except for Fallout 3, since that was fun for a few playthroughs.

And as far as I'm concerned, Gears is better than Oblivion. But that's just my opinion.

explain to me how LA Noirce and Deus Ex, two of the worst AAA games which have came out this yea can beat out Skyrim, Uncharted, etc.

Arkham City sure... the rest? that's just laughable.
Even though I already explained it in the post that was quoted, LA Noire (facial deciphering and detective work) and Deus Ex (reboot to an almost decade dead franchise) brought something new, compared to Skyrim which will just be more of what we saw in fallout coated in a high fantasy Oblivion coat all of which took place within this console generation. Uncharted, exactly the same thing, its the same elements of the prior two Uncharted games with a few tweaks added. (EDIT: and yes, Arkham city is the exact same thing, but honestly, It was my failing for including it)

Let me make it clear. I am not saying Uncharted or Skyrim are/will be bad games. I am saying that there is absolutely nothing new there we havent seen already from within those same franchises within this console generation. So why exactly would we want to give GOTY honors to what is essentially the same game that already won GOTY honors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 years ago? I dont like giving my GOTY nods to games that boil down to little more than a fresh coat of paint on a game that was already GOTY before when there are games that have offered us something different.

Considering that Skyrim's not out yet I'd hate to bring it up on the off chance it'd adjust my expectations in a way the gameplay won't compensate for.

I haven't played Dark Souls either, There's a small chance I'd like it at all because I don't take well to frustrating games.

Batman: Arkham City. Yeah, all those 10/10 reviews are probably full of shit the game is still pretty fucking good. Some of the best combat I've ever seen in a game. It's like Assassin's Creed with Batman, and since there was no Assassin's Creed game this year Batman gets to stand out. Yes it's a sequel but it passes the sequel rule of being both relevant and better than the first one.

Catherine: What? An original IP! A narrative focused game! Added bonus, A story that hasn't been fucking done to death! Not a shooter!!! A puzzle game, no less! These are all things I like. Catherine filled a void in my life that I thought would never be filled. I Thought A non shooter game where the main cast actually had to have emotions would never get made in this wold, unless it was an XBLA game. Then Catherine shows to spread parade under my rain.

Bastion: Let it never be said that XBLA games couldn't kick the ass of any triple A title. It has that whole meshed story and gameplay thing that is sorely lacking in games now days. Or ever really. Asides from a couple balance issues that crop up near the end it's a really fun game, and pretty to look at too. You don't get that a lot now days.

Games I'm still considering.
Skyrim
Dark Souls
Blood Rayne: Betrayal

Missed the cut.
Portal 2
Record of Agarest War Zero
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
DR2: Off the Record
All for failing to pass the Sequel rule test.

Child of Eden
Fruit Ninja
For being Kinnect exclusives and I'm just that Petty

Resident Evil 4
Beyond Good and Evil
For being remakes

Apologies to all PS3 games I haven't played any of them.

Skyrim and Arkham City for me.

Arkham City was nothing short of a masterpiece. And any Besthesda Studio developed game always gets GOTY awards and I see no reason why Skyrim won't.

Granted, pretty much every other big title coming out will win some sort of GOTY award. But I just finished Arkham City, including the side quests and all...I've never really been blown away by a game such as this. I still don't really know what to think of it other then the fact it was excellent.

Battlefield 3/MW3
Skyrim
Portal 2
Saints Row 3

Those are going to be running the show. I would wish The Witcher 2 had a chance, on account of there being absolutely nothing wrong with it and being an awesome game overall, but they would probably not be able to buy themselves into GOTY.

Skyrim, Saints Row and Deus Ex ...

Pretty much this.
As awesome as BF3 will be, and as awesome as Batman is, though I have yet to play it, I still reckon those 3 will be top contenders.
In my book, at least, realistically I reckon it'll be Skyrim, Batman and Deus Ex.

I really hope Deus Ex gets the win, though.

Personally I'd say Bastion, Portal 2 and Saints Row the 3rd look like my top 3.

As far as the media is concerned I think it will boil down to Portal 2, Skrim and Arkham City. I could easily see Uncharted getting in there. Bastion will when some arcade game awards and hopefully TOR will get some mmo awards, depending on how awesome it is. This is all based on reviews I've seen since I have no interest in Skrim or Arkham city (I know I'm some kind of mutant beast thing for that but ehh).

While I do see Skyrim or Batman getting the nod, a part of me wishes Saints Row would win. Haven't played it yet, so I can't say much, but it looks incredibly fun.

Well, I tend to play games well after they've come out, mostly so that I can get them cheap. So with that in mind, my top 3 mostly didn't come out this year:

In no particular order:
GTA: San Andreas
Portal 2
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

And special mention go to Braid and Super Meat Boy.

At the moment, judging on what I've played so far this year, mine'd be Arkham City, Dark Souls and the Witcher 2. Awesome games - totally worthy of critical acclaim. However, realistically, simply because of all the hype and die-hard fanboys, I think Skyrim or one of the many shooters out this year will get it.

Shame really, my three are great...
