the maratha confederacy is always in my E:TW campaigns the major trade partners. When i then come to destroy them as the crazy power monster i am in these games. I lose 70% of my income (it was at around 1000000ish) crazy how trade can effect your country so much in the end-game. Am I the only one that does this?

Brutii. Currently campaigning to gain control of the Ionian coast for all the money. Pontus control the far east, which I am currently attempting to conquer, albeit with difficulty, got to the point where there are no more push over states.

In Empire I was the British and had declared war on Spain. A HUGE army of spanish warriers swarmed into Gibralter, and went into battle with my poor militia. I had about 200 men to his 3000. Resigned to my fate, I put all the militia in the buildings and camped. What would you know, I won! The stupid AI just ran around the buildings getting shot to pieces whilst trying to melee the walls. The Spanish didn't trouble me after that.

In Medieval 2 I was the English and France declared war on me. I sent three giant armies over to France and proceeded to take Paris and all the French provinces but one. This one tiny province in the middle of France had a full star army, and with my armies weakened from earlier battles I couldn't engage it. It just sat there until I rebuilt my army and ate it. Took 10 turns though. I then marched onto Spain and took the whole Iberian Peninsula.

Of course I lost that game because Pirates destroyed all the ships I sent to Jerusalem.

I always love it in Shogun 2 when I am besieged by a massive army (maybe like 2-3 20 unit forces are heading towards my town) and I use a night attack of my single 20 unit force to cripple their best general's army before retreating back home. Then I use a ninja to sabotage the other army if possible.

FYI a Ninja with improved "distract army" and then the "Noble Thief" skills can stall almost any army indefinitely at no cost.

I've been struggling to try and get the Crusader States off the ground in a Hard difficulty campaign with the latest Stainless Steel mod for Medieval 2: Total War and so far it's been a struggle just to try and break even money wise. This kingdom hemorrhages money like an open wound from the very first turn and there's just too many behind the scenes calculations going on for me to even begin and understand what I might be doing wrong. On my third attempt I've finally managed to break even, making a pathetic couple hundred coin a turn, but it's left me without an army or military improvements in the middle of a part of the world that hates me and wants my kingdom dead.

Pretty much entirely reliant upon the whim of the papal states, sending me donations to keep up the good fight and immediately pouring that money into repairing damaged and desperately trying to maintain *some* fighting force without going back into the red. I can't even build up too much of an army or I wont be able to afford to keep it.

Realistic perhaps, but also absolutely brutal. I get the feeling this nation is doomed to failure in-game just as it was in real life. Still I'm gonna keep trying, I've managed to hold off two armies so far and honestly the challenge is sorta endearing. I've played this game enough times I can usually breeze through everything it has to throw at me so finding a scenario I'm struggling with is refreshing.

Even though my crazy battles are manifold, there is nothing like the batshit insanity of the campaign map on highest difficulty.

One of the best ones must've been when in N:TW I (playing England) invaded France, playing out one of my favourite middle-game dick moves: capturing the enemy capital, sacking it for a crazy amount of money, and then selling it right back to them.

Not this time. Phase one was flawlessly completed: their not-so-valiant defenders were no match for Englands finest.
Phase two also played out satisfactorily: close to 100.000 gold was gained by sacking Paris.

Phase three however proved to be a surprise. France didn't want Paris back. Not even when I asked them nicely, and only demanded peace. Plan B of course involved demolishing every single building in the area. International dick moves should have enough dickery in them, otherwise they'd be indistinguishable from my state visits.

Not surprisingly, after a while Paris started rebelling, and I pulled back my troops. If the rebels would capture it then France would regain a bankrupt region on the verge of revolt.
Not so much. The next turn Switzerland invaded, and captured Paris.

To add insult to injury: Switzerland was allied with France, and 3/4 of France remained in Swiss hands for the next 20 turns or so. 20 turns that rather effectively squashed any hopes France might've had for being more than a minor nuisance to me.

High-Fives for a dick move well played were sent.

This is not an LP. This is an alternate-historical epic. It's just as awesome as it sounds.

Haven't played in forever. The only one I have is Empire, and I couldn't get my head around it at all. Although, I've heard Napoleon fixes all of Empire's problems...

Countless brilliant battles.
Years ago in R:TW, I was the Brutii and had expanded a little too quickly and as a result, one of my armies was holding a city in Turkey that was being attacked by a full stack Ptolemaic army every damn turn.
After what must have been the tenth or eleventh such attack, my cohorts were down to about 15 men each, but were so elite that they would cause a rout when they charged.
They held out for long enough for my other armies to mop up local resistance and come to help.

I was also proud of my campaign in S2:TW where I assassinated the entire Shogunate family, whilst remaining allied to them. Once they only had a weak willed Shogun left, I attacked and took Kyoto.

Empire wasn't very good if you ask me. Rome, Medieval 2 and Shogun 2 are the best ones so far.

I've NEVER been able to finish the campaign of either Rome or Medieval 2, but I remember having some great times, especially regarding the character-general system, and keeping track of their exploits, etc.

Umm...so far....

I rammed a whole mess of Gorons across a bridge right into a pack of deku scrubs...and the scrubs almost immediately turned tail and ran like hell before they could get knocked aside like bowling pins.

That's...pretty much it.

(Only really cares about total war for the Zelda mod)

Haven't played in ages, but I love Rome: Total War with the Roma Surrectum II mod.

I remember one of my most epic battles was when one of my Legions (Legio VIII Augusta I think) was surrounded by 4 full stacks of Belgae - I left northern Europe until last to conquer. The specifics escape me now but I remember being down to my last 200 or so troops fighting against around 1300 Belgae. Reinforcements from Legio IV Macedonia entered the battlefield in the nick of time, and utterly smashed the Belgae from their right flank.

Watching the Belgae line crumble then break, being pursued by the tattered remnants of VIII Augusta was a deeply satisfying moment.

Currently playing the Grand Campaign on N:TW as Great Britain. Surprisingly, France is not my enemy at the moment. I made peace with them to focus on my other conquests.

My first target was Spain, sending Lord Nelson to destroy their fleet, with some careful manouvering on the campaign map I destroyed a Dutch fleet, then bypassed the French fleet to capture the Spanish fleet (including the Santisima Trinidad!), establishing British dominance of the seas. Then I sent Wellington to the pyrenees, cutting Spain off from France by capturing Barcalona and then conquering Madrid itself. After a brief battle at Mallorca, Spain was defeated and I then attacked France.

I conquered Normandy but just ransacked it and let it become a rogue province. John Moore conquered Brittany and Alsasce Lorraine, Wellington took France's south possesions and also captured Milan. Moore Led his army into Calais, destroying it, then conquered Belgium, establishing it as a Protectorate (we'll need someone to play at football in the future!), with the timely arrival of reinforcements from the British Isles he also liberated Amsterdam, getting the Dutch as an ally.

Knowing that Hannover was an objective I sent John Moore in a fleet to take it from France and kept it for myself, Prussia took exception to this and decided to try and buy Hannover, when I declined they targeted my protectorates, only just being held back from Holland. Quick action was needed and with the money from my recent conquests built Three huge armies that teamed up with Moore and Wellington. Conquered Prussia, made peace with France and established Poland.

Then the Russians decided they wanted Poland for themselves so I built another army and now have six full armies conquering the huge lands of Russia. Early successes in 1807 were halted by the onset of winter as my armies bunkered down to survive the cold months. In the spring of 1808 highly experienced armies did battle with huge numbers of Russian militia. Meanwhile, after landing at St Petersburg in the winter, General Abercrombys army is only four weeks away from Moscow while 'General Winter' is six months away......
