Coleman laughed. "The only thing we got to trade is Lamprey, we got: boots, pants, shirts, coats, gloves, hats, cloaks, tents, sheets, ribbons and a ton of other stuff we've made from their skin. But, that's about it." He paused thinking. "For payment to get across our river, sure mechanical help would be good, anything really."

Stalking back to Coleman and Gear, Blake watched themovements of the inhabitants. They looked scared, the fear in their eyes betraying feeble attempts at casual actions.

"You having any trouble at all?" He peered down at Coleman, "bandits, mutants? Maybe we could deal with them while the tinker makes whatever repairs you need." He smiled grimly at Gear, "maybe we'll find some rubber you're looking for too, eh?"

Coleman thought for a second. "Now that you mention it, just to the west of here, there's a bridge the scav's use to get across, some mutant raiders have been using it to ambush anyone who crosses, been making life hard for the scavs to get here." He said, dishing up what looked like sushi into a variety of bowls before handing them to the group.

Mortis had opted to join the rest of the group and leave Delrath retrained to one of the vehicles they came in on. It would be roughly three hours before he arose from his slumber and after his brief periods with the mutant he had deduced that he would be rather 'agitated' at Mortis' actions.

That .

Mortis examined the food handed to him. It was slick and dripping with a foul smelling lubricant, likely oil based to aid the aquatic creature through the water.

"Yucky" Mortis said under his breath as he passed the bowl to Marcus who was adjacent to him. Mortis had a pack of food rations in his medical pack should hunger become an issue.

Mortis found a seat by the edge of the water, well away from the men and woman he was forced to work with. As he sat he pulled his thick black cargo pants from the heavy combat boots to just above the knee. He examined the flesh and how it was spiting. Underneath, the bright red muscle clearly visible with the "blood" flowing in and out of it.

He stretched the leg back and forth, the dull ringing of pain radiating through his nervous system. It didn't even register properly to him anymore, it was simply a familiar feeling that raced through his body with every movement.

After his brief exercises he pulled the wooden box with the detailed heart shaped engraving from his coats pocket and slid the lid open once more. His gaze was transfixed into the small container his constant smile was extended to its maximum with eyes wide and filled with something incredibly dark and sinister.

Ashe collected herself and walked back to the long table where most of the group had gathered. As she looked at her shadow against the rocky ground she overheard Coleman say that there were mutants raiders nearby. Ashe had a fond memory of mutant raiders back when she was still a child living in the old armory.

"Mutant raiders... we had a nice chat with them a while back. They aren't there anymore though..." Ashe said as she walked up to them. Ashe gave a quick glance at the food Coleman was eating and her stomach growled a bit. Whatever they were eating had to be better than the food in Crux.

Coleman looked at Ashe, then to the rest of the group. "You killed 'em? Well, the scav's will be happy that's for sure! Well, for that service, hell, we'll let you cross free." Coleman smiled happily at the group.

Delrath dreamed of fire. An enormous creature hundreds of feet tall and covered in hot swirling flames and Delrath felt fear as the creature disemboweled and incinerated him in a single swipe.

Delrath's left eye slowly opened, he recognized the floor of the truck and could smell the other's outside. He slowly sat up, his body felt strange, groggy. The other's voices seemed distance and muffled. mor...mortis...mortis He thought remembering what the doctor had done to him, he would repay his treachery. "MORTIS!" Delrath roared rapidly standing up. He saw him by the water, Delrath breathed heavily then charged at him. Delrath slammed into Mortis knocking him down, he grabbed him the throat and slammed his face into the ground twice. "NEVER... TOUCH... ME" Delrath yelled throwing Mortis into the side of the truck. He will never stop Delrath thought as he walked over to Mortis's battered body kicking him in the ribs. Delrath grabbed Mortis's right arm and bent it behind his own back, it only took a few seconds before the tearing of flesh was heard and Delrath ripped Mortis's arm off. "Dissect this" Delrath muttered tossing Mortis's arm at him. He leaned in closely digging one of his knuckle spike into Mortis "We eat traitors and the weak, dont forget"

Delrath turned back to the others breathing heavily and said one word "Kalorik"

Mortis's trance from the mysterious box was broken by a great force that slammed into his back. As Mortis went to the ground he made sure to slip the container into his lab coat pocket once more.

As he was about he to greet his attacker a thick, course grip entangled his neck and rose his head from the dirt and muck of the riverbank, only to have that same force from before hammer his skull into the ground.

Soon after the feeling of weightlessness greeted him followed by the hard steel embrace of the side of the truck they had rode in on. He heard some ramblings while he was mid flight but only realised who it was when he noticed the torn chains dangling from the back of the truck.

Oh, Delraths up. Lovely.

Just has the thought registered in his head a powerful blow ran into his chest breaking at least 2 of his ribs, he would have to inspect it later. By this point Mortis was on his feet, but by no means of his own. Delrath had lifted him up by his right arm and twisted it in his grasp, soon Mortis recognised the familiar feeling of having his arm parted from his body. the words "Dissect this" echoed in the air as the limb came free.

Already have.

The great beast threw the appendage at Mortis, it hit him in the chest with enough force to wind him. Delrath crossed the gap between them and jammed one of his jagged calcium deposits into his chest, but not enough to pierce, a warning.

"We eat traitors and the weak, Don't forget" The great mutant announced, his breath was heavy.

Mortis slumped the base of the wastes, smile still full on his face despite the heavy beating he had received.

My blood's poison, Beast. Take a bite if it would please you.

As Delrath made his exit Mortis picked up his arm and inspected it, no permanent damage appeared to have come from the barbaric handling while in mutants's hands. Mortis raised it to the maw where his elbow would have met the forearm and let the Sanguine flow into it.

I'll fix the ribs later

Moments latter the arm was reattached and Mortis was making his way back to the others, when he had reached them we looked at them puzzled.

"Anything interesting happen while I was gone?"

Ashe heard the commotion and turned to see an angered Delrath. Soon afterwards an arrogant Mortis followed. Ashe sighed as she came to the conclusion that this group would rip one another to pieces probably even before they get to the airship. But what worried Ashe even more was the mutant. Ashe walked up to the towering Delrath and whispered to him.

"Please Delrath, I need to promise me something. I don't care if you don't keep it but please keep this in your mind. Promise me that you do your very best to keep your temper to something that you can keep. Keep this promise and I promise you that I'll do whatever I can do in my power to protect you." Ashe emphasized with those last words. Ashe wouldn't be sure if Delrath would keep it or let alone understand her words but Ashe stood her ground with her notion of protecting Delrath because ,after all, every beast has its bane. Then Ashe turned aside and went forward passing by Mortis on her way to the river again.

"You know what they say about playing with rabid dogs right? But hey what do I know? I'm only a kid..."

"You don't play with rabid dogs. You put them down." Mortis answered, he made no attempt to make eye contact with his associate and instead went upon his way towards a more remote corner of their little encampment in the hopes of being able to repair himself.

As Mortis was taking his strides he felt the stings resonate from his chest where his ribs had been broken. They hadn't punctured his lung so that was a plus, the last time that had happened it had taken days of surgery to fix. Mortis looked over the tools he drew from his black doctors bag, examining each carefully, when this was over he returned them all to their rightful pockets and braces. all except for a thick white bandage, scalpel and some metallic pins.

Mortis withdrew his white labcoat and began unfastening the buckles on the back of his restraining jacket. With a final resounding click the jacket came free and slumped to the floor. Mortis' skin was pale, deathly so, and covered in thick scars running all along his body like some patchwork monster. He gripped the scalpel much like any trained doctor should and without hesitation made a deep precise incision, then another and finally another.

By the time he was complete with his cuts a large portion of the skin that covered his upper body had been removed. Underneath he examined, with a wide smile, the severity of the broken ribs. He reached into his chest and adjusted the bones to the correct angle and using some device, stapled a wire through the bones.

During the operation Mortis hadn't been keeping track of the time, when he had finally stitched the chunk of skin he had dissected earlier back into place and bandaged his torso the sun was already low in the sky.

I cannot wait to cut YOU up next, Delrath

Coleman walked towards the makeshift bridge and a few of the locals came to help as he twisted a giant wooden contraption that slowly lowered the drawbridge. "You guys are welcome here whenever, you need supplies or just a bed to sleep we'll provide for you no problem. Just be careful out there." Coleman said with a smile.

Marcus lept into one of the trucks and roared the Ethanol engine into life. Swinging the passenger door open to allow the others on. Directly behind him, Ford done the same.

Ashe heard the roar of the trucks' engine and hastily hopped on inside. Ashe took one good look at Coleman's landing, sucking in what was most likely the last hint of a non-fractured society that she would see in a while or at least on the trip. Ashe then put her hand behind her head and felt the ink behind her head. It was a good thing that her tattoo was underneath all her hair because something in the ink made the sun's rays intensify as it hit the tattoo. Ashe had taken a good look at her tattoo a few times given the scarcity of mirrors or time for that matter. Ashe drew her arm forward and ran her fingers on the surface of her shotgun like a child would with a doll.

Marcus looked out of his window. "C'mon guys, we've gotta get a move on!" He yelled.
In the distance, heavy storm clouds were forming and looked to be slowly drifting towards Coleman's landing.

Mortis climbed onto the back of one of the trucks, coiled around his chest were thick red stained bandages, over his shoulder his coat and jacket. He assumed the same seat he had been in on the ride to this accursed place.

"Come on, we Don't have all day"

Delrath scowled and jumped in the truck, it creaked and sunk under his weight before he settled next to Ashe. He slide his knuckles across each other Mortis was weak, his only strength was in trickery and deciet. If he was given a chance he would tear his head off, he wouldn't be able to re-attach that

Ian rasied his head a little as group passed by. Once the group was far enough away he slung his backpack over his shoulder, adjusted the strap that held his rifle and moved after them, masking the noise he made with the noise from the trucks. He broke off tailing the group as they neared the river and concealed himself behind some rocks.

Careful to keep himself hidden, he began to observe the group. He saw one member of the group talking with the villager called Coleman and the rest of the ofter members milling about around the water. He got a glimpse in the back of the truck and saw another person unconscious in the back.

Seems like my way out of this town has arrived,he thought to himself.

He caught a glimpse of movement in the back of one of the trucks and saw the man who had been unconcsious standing up. He checked out the man quickly. Interesting. They have a Kalorik traveling with them. He watched as the Kalorik jumped out of the truck and ran at one of the people sitting by the water. No less violent then any of his compatriots.

He continued watching as the man by the water had his arm torn off. He was a surprised when he saw the man move off, apparently unphased by the fact that his arm had been torn off. Very interseting. Looks like the murderer's companions will prove more interesting then the murderer himself.

He waited while the pale man preformed his self-surgery and Coleman moved off to lower the bridge. He made sure that everything was straped in properly and his pack was secure. He didn't want anything falling out in his dash to the trucks. He waited until he heard the trucks start up again and the group got themselves settled in then dashed for one of the trucks. He jumped into an empty seat, dropping his pack onto the floor. He settled one hand on his holstered pistol. With the other he pulled down the scarf covering his mouth and extended it to the group.

"Greetings travelers, my name is Hunter and I would like to offer my services to you."

Mortis eyed the man that had just launched himself into the seat adjacent to him, The blond man was resting atop on his lab-coat and jacket dirtying them with the dust of the wastes. The man's introduction appeared a tad bit more forward than expected from his compatriots and the fact that his hand was clutched to his side in close proximity to the pistol created mixed opinions.

"You're sitting on my coat" Mortis said, his voice flat. He reached into his doctors bag searching for yet another syringe.

Ian sat there for a second. Not quite the answer I was expecting, but at least there not violent right off the bat. He withdrew his extended hand and pulled the lab coat from underneath him and handed it to the pale man. "My apologies," Ian said to him. He leaned back in the seat and wait for any responses from the other members.

Marcus was struggling with the gear stick as the intruder leapt into the back of the truck. In one fluid motion, Marcus had turned, unholstered his pistol and pointed it into the chair, trained on the man's chest. "And who the fuck are you? Marcus said, staring directly at the man.

Ian turned towards the man who had just pulled a gun on him. He fixed his eyes on the gun. Looks like a Glock 17. Duster should be able to stop it. Get a pretty bad bruse at this range, others will turn violent. Best to play it safe for now. "Hunter," he told the man.
