I just thought I'd see what people consider to be the ultimate "Just one more turn..." game for them. That one where you start it up expecting to just play for a few minutes but it keeps going and going. I suppose this could also apply to "Just one more level" "Just one more quest" etc. However I was thinking of turn based games when I made this.
The bane of my existence would be old school, Heroes of Might and Magic III. Nothing sucks my soul out through my eyeballs faster. I plan to just do one more turn and the next thing I know I've finished an entire scenario and 3 hours are gone. I highly recommend this game to any who have never played it, especially with all the fan love its gotten over the years with Wake of the Gods and such.

I was like this with the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. Just one more dungeon... wait, it's WHAT time?!

Civilization IV. Even it's Menu, when you want to quite gives you the option of ''Just... One... More... Turn...''

Well, not really a game but the visual novel I'm currently going through right now is just like that.

"I'll stop playing after this conversation...no wait one more...ohhh, a choice, now where does it go...."

And it doesn't help that I've reached the part when things really start to pick up.

The Total War series, it can get really bad for me, like staying up until 4-5AM, just taking yet another turn, vowing to stop after that.

Ah, never a truer word was spoken!

Me, last night:

*boots up RTRVII* I'll play a couple turns since it's late...
*starts campaign as Sparta*
*smashes way into Megalopolis and proceeds to take much of the southern Peloponnesus*
*looks at watch* 3am *shrug* a couple more turns

I was still playing at 7am... damn me, I love RTW!!

Beyond that, I remember finishing KotOR in two sittings (well, effectively)... played from Dantooine all the way to the end in one go and ended it with my face in my keyboard because I didn't save the game before the massive fight with Malak...

Personally it's UMVC3. "Oh I wonder what the next guy's team will be"

A wild Team Trenchcoat appears! Fuck 'em up!

The fact that making an epic comeback is a viable game plan to begin with probably one of the reasons I love this game so much. (Dark Wesker anyone?)

Both Ammy and Phoenix Wright are badass comeback characters... Ammy has "Oh you think I was fast before? GOD MODE ACTIVATE! The amount of times they just don't block fast enough or I attack through their Hyper startup animation due to my newfound X-Factor charge is uncanny.

And obviously Phoenix Wright is the epic comeback character. Seeing as it's actually canon to make any kind of awesome comeback with him. Hell his X-Factor activation quote is "I'll turn things around!" It's damn accurate to say the least.

X-23 is alright but I can never make any sort of proper comeback with her. Weird since she's the only character I can make a proper combo with. I can only figure out a corner combo with Ammy and it's a bit hit and miss at times.

"Just one more turn" is exactly my relationship with Total War games. I find it so hard to stop playing once I've started. There's always something that needs to be done or set up so there's never a good place to stop playing and risk forgetting something you wanted to do.

Taking a broader definition, this kind of thing always happens to me with the old isometric RPGs. Much more than modern RPGs. When I played Fallout 1&2, and Baldur's Gate, and Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (holy crap this is a great game), I'd miss meals, barely sleep, and hours would go by between glances at a clock. I power through them so much faster than any sane person is supposed to. And I still have Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape: Torment on the horizon.

For me it's Solitaire.

I have it on my phone so I just whip it out every time I have to wait for something and it ends up with me being there hours later saying to myself "Okay after this game I will stop and go do something"

I also started playing it before going to bed while waiting for the bathroom to be free, the next thing I know its 1pm the next day...

A more popular one would be WoW, "Oh I'm close to leveling I think I'll just do one more quest to finish it off" several quest chains later "Oh I'm close to leveling I think I'll just do one more quest to finish it off" and the cycle goes on and on... Til you're max level fully epic geared and can't remember what happened in real life in the last 2-3 months...

...Or is that just me?

Absolutely Heroes 3 would just not let you go!

Special mentions to Civilization IV, Europa Universalis 2&3, Medieval&Rome Total War, Crusader Kings 1&2, Hearts of Iron 2. All these game had the effect of me starting to play in the afternoon and then looking outside and it was morning...

I remember those....though the only one where I WANTED to progress was explorers of time

One more level could easily be done to some Call of Duty games much earlier, now it has become just wanting end the night with a good game.

Civilization V.

Sid Meier's Civilization's are where the phrase originates.

Ah, yes. How many playthroughs of Red Rescue Team have I done? I lost count. Speaking of that generation of Nintendo games, how about Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Phantasy Star Online: Episodes 1&2 both for the GameCube? The latter is, in my opinion, absolutely addicting (even though I only play offline with my siblings) and you get to raise Chao [http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k199/solareala/neutral_chao_garden-1.jpg] in the former.

Speaking of which, my younger sister and I have been trying to breed a generational line into all-S graded Chao, and I need to figure out the best course of action for inter-breeding the five chao I have in the current generation. I'm thinking about keeping the three choicest offspring of the lot. It's really handy that Chao have no set gender and don't care about inbreeding, like at all. As a matter of fact, that can result in genetic superiority, as Chao are likely to take the better grades of both parents, and then you take two children and wow, what am I doing with my time?

Eh, everyone's got to have something, I suppose.

In other words, 4x games in general. That's me as well; I've got something like five of them installed right now, and that's not counting the hybrid RTS ones like Sins of a Solar Empire and Empire Earth. See also: Anything and everything Sid Meier had a hand in. I find Pirates! at least as addicting as Civilization, even though it's not really a turn-based game.

Smash Brothers Melee. I would stop off at my friends house after work and not leave until 3 am, despite having to work the following morning at 8 am because of the epic "Gannondorf vs. Captain Falcon" matches we'd have.

God I love that game...

Oh man yes. It always happens when you're like "One turn to destroy three towns and take them over." *Send huge armies in*... One turn later you're like "DAMNIT!"

The Uncharted games are the first to come to mind as of late. It's a mixture of both amazing story and game play that even though is pretty much the same throughout, never gets too tiresome.
