Best explanation we currently have.

Thanks! This is really interesting, I'm watching it right now.

Also, thanks to everyone else for their attempts at explaining it to me!

That's just a theory. Remember that fact, every day of every second.

Just like religion is.. To me, at the very least.
Kind of like 2+2=4 is a theory?
That's a theory proven with proof. Would you like me to present it?

The universe theory, however, is not.
Unless you can pull that answer out of your ass.

Nah the only thing that comes from there is feces.
But the universe theory is suported by evidence.
Religion is a matter of personal believe that has no evidence.

How do you prove that the Universe is always expanding?

Yes, just like gravity is a theory. A theory does not mean a guess. It means....you know what you can figure it out yourself...

Dear Posters,

Please at least read the wikipedia articles on the universe, expansion, inflation, and other hot topics in cosmology, before posting lots of meaningless drivel about topics not related to your field of expertise.

Me carrying the whole of humanity on my shoulders into the light? Right forget all about the thousands of scientists.
Kind of how you prove gravity exists - you observe evidence, find out the patterns, make a reasonable hypothesis, make a bunch of experiment to test it, submit it to the scientific community for analisys...
Anyway on the topic of universe expanding - the aforementioned in this thread: doppler effect and background radiation. Read it up.

I feel compelled to link this to the thread.
FOR SCIENCE!

Oh, and on the subject of how to prove the Universe is expanding, look up "red shift"/ The doppler effect. In short, light from objects moving away from us appears as a slightly longer wavelength (which makes it look more red) than objects still in relation to us or moving towards us (those are shifted towards the blue end of the spectrum). Since almost everything in the sky is shifted a bit towards the red end of the spectrum, the logical deduction is that almost everything is expanding outwards, with the exception of some thing that are moving towards us, such as the Andromeda galaxy, but that's a different story.

The scientists don't all agree, and it's not so much been proven as it has been speculated.

Not quite, as I said read it up, it is a clear evidence that universe is expanding (no, not a proof, evidence). The argument among scientists is whether or not it's going to continue to expand or is it going to stop at some point and implode on itself.

For me, I only believe in things I see. The Universe expanding is not one of them.
However I've seen the simplicity of adding numbers together.
So it is a flawed theory in my case.

As for religion, I have nothing against it. But it isn't real to me unless I've seen it for real.

As far as I can gather, the matter existing in the Universe is expanding in an infinite space. But I'm no scientist.

Not trying to argue with you or anything, but do you believe in microbes? Or atoms?
They aren't usually seen (unless you use tools, but you use tools to see doppler effect as well).
