Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. The ending of the first season will cause your brains to leak out of your ears. You know this to be true:

-snip-
Dammit! Ninja'ed >.<
It's weird, just weird.. and awsome! But still weird.

CURSE YOU GUY WHO ALREADY SAID PUNI PUNI POEMI!!!
For recent, Nichijou
<youtube=D5bOJT_HtUI>
for older series
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-Chan
<youtube=2vBUaGP7L3w>
For insane premise I'll have to go with Akikan!, basic plot: Soda cans turn into girls and fight to the death to decide which is superior, aluminum or steel.
I lol'd just reading that XD

I havnt watched any so I have nothing to contribute!

FLCL for me as well. It's not just the weird-ass plot, or the zany animation, but the dialog. Nobody in that show talks like you'd expect a normal person to talk. It's weird, and I love it. Definitely my favourite anime of all time.

Well I've seen a few episodes of Bobobobobobobo. That seems like a very weird anime.
Oh, Jesus Holy Christ. It HAS to be this one over all others. Bobobo is proof that drugs can be transmitted via light-waves into the brain. I mean, with only a sort-of parody-plot to Fist of the North Star, the show is completely all directions of flipping random at once. I have seen ALL of the episodes and now I use Nabeshin to talk me DOWN from lunacy.

I haven't seen that much weird anime but Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is pretty strange.

It's a good anime, the only downside is that the last episodes get way more serious, to the point of removing the comedy entirely during some episodes.

Bobo-bobobo-bobo or however the hell it's supposed to be spelled. I was a few episodes of this but I stopped watching right around the time they introduced that one guy with the pink crap for a head. I still have no idea what that show was.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Actually, I feel like this is such an obvious choice, I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned more. Has anyone watched it? I'll agree that most of the later Gainax series are formulated in their strangeness, but Evangelion is weird and disturbed on a much deeper and frightening way.

Second place goes to Serial Experiments Lain, as it's sheer mindfuckery makes the whole series almost incomprehensible.

No one has brought up Evangelion the original weird anime. God that anime messed my 9 year old brain up.

I sniped you on that one. Oh, and it was mentioned once (post 23). I'm glad someone agrees, though.

melody of oblivion.

my god that anime is just so fucked up.
I hated that one, it just seemed like it was seeking refuge in fanservice at some point, especially with that girl who had the uber-mark-of-power on her inner thigh, which made it look like she was pleasing herself whenever she powered up her arrows. Another part that I simply found stupid was when they were applying that gel onto themselves so that they could fight in space, and how the anthropomorphic motorcycles transformed when their riders sat on them in human form and spanked them.

Then, while fighting the space battle, it is announced that the organized resistance of bad-ass heroes who had never even been shown or significantly hinted at existing, are completely wiped out by a massive explosion at a special meeting. It all spoke of a massive lack of effort by the team that made it. Trying to have a crazy psychological experience with weird shit going on, combined with fanservice and a serious story does not work, but simply changing the story to be equally insane, weird, and in no way serious can make for a good ride. Now I need to actually find and buy a DVD of Dead Leaves, because that stuff is worth supporting.

Bleach.
I mean come on, look at the bleeding mess it became:D
There's some truth in that. It's so goddamn inconsistent that it doesn't matter what happen next, or why it happened. You just know that Ichigo will always deus-ex-machina'd every single fight or situation he is in faster than Goku did with all of his fights.

My personal weirdest anime would be Gintama. You know many anime where a kid with a gay parent is confused about whether to call his papa, papa or mama. Then after one episode of his papa/mama kicking some alien ass and taking name, finally understand when to call his papa, papa/mama. Yeah, it's that awesome. Oh, and the only reason human babies are not in zoos, is our lack of hair ... according to our alien overlords. > . >

The End of Evangelion. I could not process what was going on as a 9 year old. Still to this day it freaks me out.

You know, I'm gonna say Read or Die. If you've not seen anything outside the TV show (as much of our anime society hadn't), it does from normal to WTF? quite quickly.

"OK, so stuff's happening, pretty standa- What, explosion? o_O... Alright, we're back to normal... Huh? Terrorists? What? Ninja girl? What? Paper bow? Wolf? What?!?!?!"
