Great concept, but they should've applied it to modern computing and tried to compete with the Big Two for the hardcore market.

It was a interesting experiment, but it didnt do enough to keep me hooked, too few big games, and even fewer that I would play on the wii over my xbox due to worse graphics and the nunchuck controllers.

If you ignore the horde of terrible 'games' and being force-fed motion controls that don't fit the game, it was great. Personally, I own a Wii, and I avoid 99% of the games like the plague. I do most of my gaming on a PC, so having a console for the few good exclusives worked out fine. It had potential as a concept, but as doomed to mediocrity by gimmicry.

Motion controls are to me a big mistake as they, quite ironically, remove that effect of forgetting you have a controller in your hands.

However I think the Wii has some great games and it's a good console if you have young kids due to plenty of quality games that are appropriate like Super Mario Galaxy.

it shows you dont need to have great graphics just a great art direction.
This is something we need more of

N'aww damnit I never got around to getting Super Smash Bro's. Brawl... Or a Zelda game... Damnit! >.<

...
Or getting around to buying a Wii for that matter... <.<
Oh my days! Those are probably the two best games for the system :) Try getting a preowned Wii and playing those two games!

Wii £40
SSBB £20
Zelda: SS £25

In brief (cause I'm on my phone and I hate virtual keyboards) the main thing the Wii did for me is prove that motion controls aren't anything more than a gimmick. I've not seen a single compelling core experience which required motion controls.

Well done Nintendo, the Wii printed money, brought people who were never gamers into your target audience, and had the other companies scrambling to copy you. But lets move on.
I see what you mean, but here are examples of core experiences that used motion controls (pointer included) well:
- Red Steel 2
- Zelda: Skyward Sword
- Metroid Prime 3
- Zack & Wiki
- Warioware: Smooth Moves
- Pikmin 2 (Wii controls worked much better than Gamecube)
Uses motion controls well is rather different from 'couldn't have happened without motion controls'. I just can't get over the imprecision and overall pointlessness of it.
That's true, in that sense I do see your point. However I think it's the same thing as all advances in video game controllers.

Super Mario 64 COULD have been done without an analog stick, however it was done BETTER with one. This was proven with the DS port.
Out of the games you listed, I've played MP3, Zack & Wiki, and WarioWare, and I didn't feel like any of them really worked properly with the motion controls. WarioWare was frustrating enough with its inability to recognize what people were doing that even my girlfriend seemed to sick of it pretty quickly and wanted to go back to the GC one, and she's much more tolerant of things like that than I am. Zack & Wiki was a great game, but it too was frustrating at times for being somewhat unreliable with its controls. If it had done what it was supposed to all the time like with a "normal" controller instead of only 90% of the time, it would've been a near perfect puzzle game, but it just wasn't quite there.

I never actually made it past the tutorial/intro section of MP3 before my Wii died on me, specifically because of the controls. A lot of people praised them for being better than in the GC games, but even though I typically play first person games on the PC and hate moving/aiming with a controller, I always liked the GC controls. The Wii controls, on the other hand, were nearly unplayable for me, because after a fairly short period of time it would make my wrist hurt when I had to keep pointing at the screen and waving my hand around constantly. I've actually considered trying to see if I can rip the disc and run it in an emulator on my computer just so I can play it with a controller or a keyboard and mouse, both to see if it's possible and to see what the game's like.

I don't think motion controls are doomed to failure or anything like that, but I do think they're a bit primitive right now in most of their uses, and I also like having the option to not use them. I've gotten some entertainment out of my Wii over the years, but I think the biggest thing I've learned from it is that playing games on my PC is actually a lot more cost-effective with all the sales. Heh.
I hate to say it, and I will sound like a dick, but you might be doing it wrong.

With FPS' on the Wii, you don't need to stick you arm out in the open for the entire time, just hold it like you would with an ordinary controller (In the position) but just keep it pointed to the TV, then just move it around a little and bingo your moving! I never had any problems with it, in fact I find it to be better than on normal consoles and closer to how a PC handles things. But I suppose it probably isn't to everyone's tastes.

I really liked the Wii, in fact I just finished Skyward Sword last night and it was an ending that brought a bit of happiness to me, most games just give make me think "Yep, just completed that game...cool". The Wii also did have a good but small catalog of games that distanced itself from generic grey/brown shooters and instead gave us some good adventure/platform/puzzle games... that is, once you get out of the majority of party games. Overall

I did like the Wii, it was a good console with some good games but it also made me realise that I can't have just a Nintendo console like I did the Gamecube so I will probably wait for the Wii-U to be a cheaper price before I think of buying it.

Hmmm... Tempting, tempting. I do need something new to distract my mind from being booooooored like it usually is. x3

Though I did just get Pokemon: White Version, since I thought that might kill loads of time like it did when I had silver on the GBA... I only just realized ALL the Pokemon are different and I don't really care for them. D: xD
Yeah I've noticed that, the newer Pokemon really aren't as... loveable as the old ones :( the GBA ones were probably the last good ones in my opinion!

Did you like Nintendo's direction? No. All they did was minigames, and churn out the same old Zelda and Mario games over and over again, but with motion control. I'd rather play Wind Waker again than Skyward Sword.

Can motion controls be the future of gaming? Nope. Gaming is way for people to relax in the evening. When I'm tired and exhausted and want to relax at the end of a long day, I play a game. When I want to move about and I'm feeling active, I go out.

Did the lacking specs affect your opinion of it? Not personally, but because of the lacking specs, a lot of multiplatform games never made it onto the Wii which left it with no MUST BUY games which weren't Zelda.

Despite its setbacks, where the exclusives up to standard? Nah, Nintendo has failed to do anything interesting with the Zelda or Metroid games for me. and The Conduit? What a joke.

Did you own one? Nope.

Overall, what are your opinions on it? It was good for a time, but the lack of quality games for it neabt that it lagged behind so much. The Gamecube remains a better console.

I pretty much only brought it for Brawl and Twilight Princess.

When the new one comes soon I'll probably sell it while it still gets a price.

the lessons
1. having the cheapest, mediocre console nets you the most sales
2. being the first party with a new gimmick lets you flood the new market
3. doing the same thing after the flood (PS move), won't sell nearly as well
4. it's all about initial appeal; the new blood quickly grows bored with their new toy

Wii served me well. Hell, I actually thought Wii Sports was kinda fun.

Smash Bros. Brawl was my highlight of the Wii experience. Never before have I loved a Wii game that much. I also ended up getting the downloads of Mega Man 9 and 10.

to be honest with you, i barely use mine. It was quite fun for something like Metroid, but there weren't many games i cared about enough to play. Wouldnt mind trying skyward sword, but otherwise i use it to play old game-cube games and not a lot else.
