This sounds interesting, but with the potetual for Trenchcoaters and Mary Sues...

Doesn't mean I won't add my own spice to the mix. Expect a sheet sometime soon.

Is this still open? Here's my sheet:

Player Name: Cybele

Character Name: Rafe

Race: your average human

Gender: male

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Appearance: Short (5'3") with an average build. Black hair cropped short. A burn mark on his left shoulder showing that he's spent some time in prison and a large scar on his right wrist from having his hand almost cut off once. He's dressed like your average thief- a mix of blacks and greys with lots of belts and hidden pockets and fingerless gloves.

Personality: Easygoing and carefree. He'll either help you or rob you blind, depending on his mood. Often he'll do both.

Profession: Thief

Strengths: Can pick almost any lock and climb like a squirrel. He's also fairly adequate at stealth.

Weaknesses: He's horrible at fighting. Give him a sword and he's more likely to stab himself than an opponent.

Call To Adventure: Fame and riches.

History: Grew up as an orphan living on the streets, surviving by picking pockets. Later became a thief 'cause it seemed like an interesting occupation. Got caught twice, once ending up in prison (and escaping), the second time almost losing a hand. Wants to become rich because who doesn't and the most famous thief in Osvar. He aims to accomplish the latter by having the highest bounty ever or at least higher than the most wanted assassin's 'cause fuck assassins.

Inventory (Optional): A dagger, a knife in his left boot, a small crossbow and a few bolts, some rope and a grappling hook, lock picks, a blanket, a cloak and hood for colder weather, a second pair of boots with soft soles (for sneaking), some food and water and a handful of coins.

Edit: added a few things.

Character Sheet in progression.

Also, first roleplay on the forums. I'll try my best.

EDIT: Here we go. Hope I did everything right.
Player Name: Neon Sword

Character Name: Cambaskia

Race: Water Nymph

Gender: Female

Alignment: Neutral

Appearance: Short hair, thin body.

Personality: Partially snarky, but caring if needed. She's a motherly type. Also has an alluring charm.

Profession: Mage

Strengths: Water and Ice magic

Weaknesses: Fire magic and electricity

Call To Adventure: To cure her boredom.

History: Cambaskia was a failed experiment at the mage school in Osvar. She was given fruitful knowledge from her masters and was then released to the world with nothing but a robe and a few magic spells. She was poor. Her earnings gained from part-time jobs at the school wouldn't even be enough to pay for a whole loaf of bread. With the few belongings she had, she went to the outskirts of town and lived 5 years in the sewers. Making frequent trips from the surface to below, she amassed quite the collection of items. She spent hours and hours crafting new things and spells that she would, at some point, use on the sewer rats.

After she grew bored of the life in the sewers, Combaskia wanted to live a thrilling life for adventure. Her travels only brought her to a dark, misty forest where she could fool and kill travelers for a handsome price. She accepted the job.

Every day eventually became the same as she developed a daily routine of scaring and killing off travelers. Sick and tired of it, she put on the tunic, grabbed a dagger, and set off towards the rolling hills.

Hey, I have some questions before I submit a sheet (although it still may take me about a week to get down and write one):

Are we allowed to completely make shit up to create our character? Religions, cities, magic, monsters (etc) that we can create have pretty much no limit?

Will you be using a dice-roll system to determine whether or not certain actions succeed? Or will you just be deciding randomly? I like either system but have become more inclined towards using dice as of late. It makes fights and important tasks a bit more interesting.

Will there be an over-arcing narrative or are we just going to be deciding what to do for ourselves?

I'll probably think of some more questions at a later date but I'll begin with these for now.

Some Questions...
I think the great advantage of having a light-rules RP versus a Heavy-Rule RP (such as AD&D) is that the GM doesn't need to thoroughly design every class, race, etc. for the rules. So in taking advantage of that, yes, you are allowed to make up any of those things provided you give it some explanation so it appears authentic in the game's world.

As for the dice, that is right now up for debate, I feel. The likely system will be based on the your character sheet in that many results can be predicted by observing your personality and inventory, though at many times I plan on incorporating dice into it. So in short, both systems will be employed.

Finally, mostly-yes. While there are existing governments, factions, etc. in The World of Osvar, most of what you players will enjoy is in small mini-arcs (quests, essentially). But seeing as the game has not yet been fully devised, suggestions concerning quests and the world itself are appreciated.

Hello there! Mind if I join? I've been looking forward to doing an rp like this for a while now, how's this character:

Player Name: InkBlot Royalist

Character Name: Saul Obren

Race: Human/demon (possessed)

Gender: Male

Alignment: Neutral good (Chaotic evil)

Appearance: As a human, Saul is about 16 years old, with short and messy hair and generally unkempt clothes. His eyes are milky, like he's blind, but he can see perfectly in reality. As a demon, his skin becomes pitch black, his eyes the brightest white, and grows molting black and silver wings. And don't forget the nine inch talons.

Personality: Saul tries to be normal. And he assumes normal people are good. In an attempt to overcompensate for the evil inside him he tries, where possible to do the right thing. Sometimes he just does it a little too well, especially when he tries to use his demonic power

Profession: Heretical street urchin

Strengths: Knows a fair amount of dark magic, although it can easily get out of hand, and being able to transform into an invulnerable Demon Lord certainly has its advantages

Weaknesses: In human form, he's a child. And a frail one at that. The Demon inside is constantly trying to escape, and while Saul is generally able to control it, once its lose changeing back is more than a litte difficult.

Call To Adventure: Fear: You don't meet many witch hunters and inquisitors when you're in dangerous places

History: Saul's mother was a gypsy. She read cards and brewed potions for visitors to their camp. It was when she began dabbling in the deeper secrets of her trade that she came across necromancy. In the attempt to return the soul of her dead husband from the grave, she drugged Saul, and prepared to sacrifice him to the powers of death. At the last moment, however, Saul flinched and smudged a single protective rune in the pentagram his mother had drawn. A powerful Demon, waiting in another dimension seized the opportunity and lept into reality. Saul's mother had her very soul torn away by the creature. The powerful demonic energy released attracted the attention of a powerful Inquisitor, who immediatly ran towards the caravan, and the Demon, weakened from the cross-dimensional travel, needed a place to hide, and possessed Saul. But the boy was stronger than the Demon realised, and now he holds the creature in check. But the Inquisitor still hounds him, and the Demon is untireing in its desire to be free.

Inventory (Optional): A jagged black dagger that his mother was going to use to cut him open. It is supernaturally sharp.
His mother's spell book. Saul has commited most basic spells to memory, but he carries this tome, detailing everything from infertility curses to summoning a gate to Hades.
Saul also carries various different chalks and candles incase he ever needs them for a ritual of some kind.

How's that? Again, I hope I can join!

Player Name: Deano

Character Name: Puriel the Lightslinger

Race: Aeonian,

Gender: Male

Alignment: Neutral Good

Appearance: The Aeonians are a race similar to Angels. They have full body length feathery wings that come from the centre of their backs. These wings are controlable, and dexterous, and the Aeonian can bend them to any shape physically possible. Usually the wings sit in a reletavely folded state behind the owners person. The wing span is long enough to wrap around the owner, or to reach to double the owners arm length. Puriel's wings are Green, that start dark green at his back, and finish light green at the tips. They provide a limited camouflage effect in summer woodland.
The rest of their appearence is akin to humans (proportionally), apart from a minor height difference. Puriel is 4'8", and is average height for his race. Puriel has a light green skin-tone, and a green mohican.

Personality: Reckless, but charming. Lacks the ability to see the seriousness of situations, but will always do what is asked of him. Is prepared to do whatever it takes to make life easier for himself and his companions.
Puriel will act upon inpulse and whim when required, and will often do the first thing that comes to mind without thinking of consequence.
He is also mild mannered and it takes a lot of pushing to make him angry.

Profession: Hunter

Strengths: Archery, mostly. He has trained in this since very young and is a great shot. His skills lie in a mid-close range however.
Speed (reactions, running speed.) Part of his speed comes from his race, and part of it comes from his wings. Due to the dexterous nature of these wings it is possible for him to position them in streamline positions to aid in running and turning. They can also aid slightly in jumping and falling.
Ability to summon light (in the form of a floating orb, and in the form of the arrows for his bow. Can also create a pair light blades, that are essentially extensions of his arms in close combat.) Defensive ability from wings, (Equivalent to that of an iron shield.) Basic Camouflage (In green forest environment). Basic hunting skills.

Weaknesses: Naivety, A lack of understanding of the world around him. Inability to store many items on his person, (apart from what can fit in a small shoulder slung satchel and what he can hold in his hands.)
Also he has a weakness against poisons, and electricity/lightning. (Due to the lack of these in home world). Electricity seems to become attracted to his wings, and they act as storm rods, temperarily paralizing him and causing copious pain.
He also cannot swim, and in water his wings absorb water and will weigh him down. Even though the Aeonians have wings they cannot fly. The wings are only used for defence and limited camouflage.

Call To Adventure: Exile, I think this is the best word from the scenario below, but I may be slightly off... It was meant to be less Romeo-type exile, and more just a tempereary measure to develop him. Kind of Thor style I guess (from the movie...?) I think there is a better word, but I cannot think of it!?

History: Puriel is an Aeonian from the lands of Aeon, which is a world that sits above the clouds of Osvar. Due to its location, however, the two worlds have limited to no interaction, and the races of both worlds know little of each other. Aeon has a monarchy, that overlooks several governing houses. Each house provides a function that contributes to society. Puriel is from the House of Ashael, which provides food to the rest of the Kingdom. Because of this he was trained since young to be a natural hunter, training with bows, and using his arcane light magic to his advantage to catch and kill food within the forests of Aeon. Each house in Aeon has a colour, and these are depicted in the individuals wings, and a basic ability, useful to that house has evolved with them. Ashael has a camouflage that helps them in their homlands forests, which are naturally light and always green.
Puriel has reached the age where he had to perform his test of adulthood. In this test he had to hunt a large creature called a Rutzea'a, solo. Unforunatly for Puriel, illpreperation, and a misunderstanding lead him too close to the cratures nest, and caused the adult he was hunting to rampage. He lost control of the situation, and accidentally lead the furious creature back to his hometown, where it trampled and ravaged a section of the year's crop. For this he was exiled for 5 years and sent to fend for himself in Osvar, to learn and develop himself before he can be intergrated back into his community.

Inventory (Optional): Lightbow, (can be shoulder slung), A small knife used for hunting and skinning, A pendant worn around his neck, with the symbol of the Aeonian Royal Family. Clothes/Armor: A light leather shirt and slacks.

I am also a RP forum game virgin. This is all new to me, but I love the concept of the open world with little rules. I like using my imagination, so am looking forward to hopefully joining you guys!

My character idea that I would like to submit is above! Apologies if it is too detailed in places, just let me know and I can tone it down/beef it up as necessary!

EDIT: I've noticed there are quite a few assassin/stealth characters in this game so far, so I may try and tweak mine further away from that. Using the wings idea I may aim to make it more of a defensive role than regular hunter... What do you guys think?

Also, I have just noticed that my Sign in name, and character idea make me sound like some sort of religious fanatic... I am not, but the idea of Angels and the imagery that comes with angels facinates me! Mostly winds... Wings kick ass! :p

Player Name: ThreeWords

Character Name: Ezekiel Shannow

Race: Human in origin, but his profession takes it's toll

Gender: Male

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Appearance: Thin to the point of emaciated, with a tight face that flickers between leanly handsome and sharply harsh. His dark hair is slicked back, and he wears loose, comfortable clothing of practical material.
His body shape is strange; his limbs are too long, his joints are extremely flexible, his bones are fragile, and beneath his long sleeves, his forearms are developing scales. Such are the symptoms of the wear and tear to reality that he causes.

Personality: Everything in Shannow's world is divided into opposites; you are his friend or his enemy, something is either completely suited to him or utterly despicable, he is either interested, or he is not. A cause he supports he will follow through to the bitter end, regardless of silly thing like morality
For the most part, he wants more knowledge; he has been seeking his power since he began an obsession in his early teens. Things that further this are, generally, good things. Things that obstruct, including things that distract, are not good

Profession: Sorcerer; a wielder of obscene degrees of power, the main limit of the forces he controls is the risk to himself should he bite off more than he can chew; the skill lies more in refusing all the power available.

Strengths: For all his incredible training and dexterity of mind, Shannow's contribution comes down to one simple thing: brute force. To mental challenges, he brings his vast intellect, and to combat he brings sheer firepower. With a flick of his wrist, men can burn in unholy fire, or be crushed to a point of nothingness, but the power must be used precisely.

Weaknesses: Shannow can barely defend himself in combat; he carries neither weapon nor armour, and his magic is of sporadic use, carrying both a debilitating cool down and cumulative danger. Misused, he runs the risk of destroying himself in a misfire. As such, he is a massive liability, despite the power at his fingertips

Call To Adventure: Thirst for knowledge, the like of which he would be persecuted for in many lands

History: [To be edited in...]

Hey, here's my idea for a character. I I know his powers are close to being ovepowered, but I tried to make him equally flawed.

Thoughts?

It looks great so far: we have a great many sly thieves and such, so magic will certainly help liven up the tactics!

Player Name: 2ndblackjedi

Character Name: Drake Griffon Lionguard a.k.a. Griff

Race: Human

Gender: Male

Alignment: Neutral Good (I think, dunno the system very well. tell me if i'm wrong)

Appearance: Long blonde and very dirty hair, long enough to cover some of his face depending on if he brushes it back or not, Green eyes, 6'2", Muscular, would be attractive if he cleaned up. Wears the armour of the Lionguard family, and carries his family's sword and shield. Armour is made of a breastplate engraved with his family's crest and chainmail on the arms and legs with brown leather gloves and boots. The shield is large and has the same crest. The sword is also somewhat oversized. It has the words "honour" and "duty" engraved on the base of the blade and fits into a sheath on his back. The shield can also be attached on his back to free both his hands.

Personality: Boisterous, arrogant and a heavy drinker. Trying to be a better person, but between his personality and his habits, he slips often, usually resulting in a brawl. Tends to be overly nice to people who are nice to him after years of being hated. Griff also tends to be overprotective when sober, especially with children.

Profession: Former hero

Strengths: Excellent at combat with a sword and shield, years of experience slaying mythical beasts

Weaknesses: Griff can be wobbly and clumsy at the best of times, gets into fights unnecessarily

Call To Adventure: To restore honour to his family name

History: Drake Lionguard was once a famous name in Osvar. He was a hero who conquered evil mages, undead hordes and the occasional dragon. The fame began to go to his head and became more of a party-goer than a hero, enjoying spending time with his fans. In his travels, he came across the small town of Mapleriver. They had asked him to protect their town from the dragon Varox, who had been burning and destroying homes in the area. As thanks, a little girl who lived in the village gave him a small necklace that she owned. Griff wanted an actual payment at first, but because of the girl, decided to protect them anyway. He had set up camp in the outskirts of the town, intending to trek out in the morning to strike the dragon before it could reach Mapleriver. However that night, citizens of Mapleriver were so ecstatic that they had celebrated with Griff at his camp. They had left early to barricade their homes in case and give Griff time to rest, but instead he continued to drink alone at his camp, eventually falling asleep. He was woken up by the smell of smoke. He quickly ran to the town to find it in ruins and all the citizens dead. His sword that once glowed brightly dimmed to no glimmer at all. His name in ruins, he went on the run. He started calling himself 'Griff' rather than 'Drake Lionguard' in hopes of keeping his identity secret. Griff could never return to his family's castle where he lived, so he spent years drifting into bars and taverns, getting in to fights with local riff-raff. After years of guilt and shame, he's decided to turn his life around and be a better hero than he ever was.

Inventory : Armour, Sword and Shield of Lionguard. Lionguard equipment is enchanted to not feel heavy or cumbersome to the wearer, while providing protection. The shield is strong enough to withstand dragon fire. The sword has the ability to shoot blasts of light, but is unable to do so until honour is brought back to the Lionguard name, it glows brighter the better Griff does at that, but is currently very dim. Griff also wears a small necklace with an emerald in it and a belt with a coin pouch and flask attached, along with a couple empty pockets attached to the belt.

I was trying to think of a character for this RP for a while now. I really wanted to give it a go.

I'll give it a try, don't know how long and how much I can contribute though

Player Name: World of Dragons

Character Name: Gladius Ardoris, is referred to as Ardoris

Race: Anthromorphic Wolf-basically a wolf with a human-like skeleton and so on

Gender: Male

Alignment: Lawful Good

Appearance: Ardoris is shorter than the average human, standing about 4'7. Basically, think of a wolf standing on his hind legs. He has orange fur with yellow sun patterns dyed into the fur on his forehead, stomach, arms and legs-his kind's method of tattooing-, wolfish yellow eyes and mid-long hair in a ponytail the same color as his fur. He has a small piece of his ear missing and scars on his arms and back. The former of which is from a fight he got into in the past while the latter scars came from torture.

Ardoris wears a red tunic over a suit of chainmail that's fitted around his body and ankle-length boots. And because I suck at describing, below is a pic

Personality: (usually I don't like to put these and let the character speak for themselves, but okay.) Ardoris is something of a fish-out-of-water. However unlike many in his situation, this is a matter he's expected and prepared for; so don't expect him looking around for things that aren't there anymore. However, he's still prone to culture shock and the like. In civil matters, Ardoris is very calm and gentlemen-like, though he may come off as eccentric as he still lives by long gone codes of behavior. This is either charming or annoying, depending on who you are. Ardoris also likes asking a lot of questions and exchanging information, again this is either charming or annoying.

In battle, Ardoris displays a nigh controllable rage, attacking with an unrelenting fury. This is actually a ruse to frighten and take the opposition off-guard (besides, wouldn't you be afraid of a pissed off wolf running at you with a pair of flaming swords?). Ardoris is ruthlessly efficient and cutthroat, always striking at the heart and never lets up until the opposition surrenders or is simply no more. While honor-bound and dutiful in civil matters, battle is entirely different and Ardoris will employ stealth and trickery if its more beneficial than fighting straight up.

Profession Ranger and Elementumus Octos' Sword of Flame

Strengths: Good at reading people and determining one's strengths and weaknesses very quickly. Ardoris is swift and cunning and always has some plan to end a confrontation quickly with the least damage/casualties. Being a wolf, he's naturally fast & agile and has heightened senses of smell and hearing. Ardoris is also armed with his order's Inferno Scimitars, which give him power of fires, allowing him to project blades of flame and inscribe explosive runes.

Weaknesses: While swift and cunning, Ardoris is still ignorant to the new ways of the world and as such his plans may not include whatever new technologies or methods his opposition would be using. His swords also run on a limited charge and once depleted will dispel, making him have to absorb flames or heat to recharge them-the latter of which takes much longer. Without the swords, Ardoris lacks a viable long-range attack. He is also somewhat lacking in physical strength.

Call To Adventure: Ardoris has been awakened and is now out to see the world and its changes. He hopes to find people worthy of becoming a new members of his order; Elementumus Octos (Eight Elements) as he has and is all that's left of it.

History: (For now I'll just give Ardoris' immediate history since there's a lot to cover.) Ardoris was once part of an order of swordsmen calling themselves 'Elementmus Octos'; a group of eight swordsmen whose unique blades bestowed upon them the powers of the elements and as wielder of the Inferno Scimitars, Ardoris had the power of flames. Back in Ardoris' time, the order eventually became corrupt and sought to rule the world they looked after, causing Ardoris to turn on them. This led to a five year feud that nearly caused the once peaceful world to plunge into chaose. Despite Ardoris' efforts, the world came to fear and despise the order as their conflict was more internal.

Eventually, Ardoris was able to slay and claim the blades of his former comrades and hid them in a tomb. Ardoris then spent the next twenty years of his life searching the world for those worth of becoming a new order. Unforunately, with the worlds distrust of Elementumus Octos, there was no one who was interested in joining that was worthy. At a loss, Ardoris found a wizard to 'curse' him with petrification. While the spell would turn him to stone, it would also preserve him perfectly, effectively making him immortal until the curse is lifted. Thus, he sealed himself in the tomb where he kept the other seven blades where opening and entering the tomb would cause the curse to be lifted.

Five centuries go by and Ardoris' tomb is broken into by a group of demons hoping to devour some women that were hunting them. Not knowing that they're intrusion has awoken Ardoris, they go about their business until Ardoris appears. After a brief exchange, Ardoris slays the demons and then leaves to see the new world, hoping the era he's awoken in had forgotten his old order and its' dirtied reputation.

Inventory (Optional):
-One 21' dagger [http://www.powning.com/jake/images/0firbeg1.jpg] strapped to behind his waist.
-Eight throwing knives [http://www.blade-empire.com/Kit_Rae/BlackJet_Throwing_Dagger-Single-KR0034.jpg], four strapped to each wrist under his clothes.
-One survival knife strapped to his boot
-A utility belt including a tinderbox, hatchet, spyglass and canteen on the right side. The left side three vials of poison. One drains stamina, one drains mana or magical energy and the other freezes the blood for about fifteen seconds.
-Ardoris' Inferno Scimitars [http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h3/world_of_dragons/Swords/Swords.jpg] are conjured and dispelled, meaning Ardoris never has to actually carry them around unless conjured.
