Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars has one achievement for skipping the Boot Camp if you pick Campaign right off the bat. Not only does the game call it a Negative Achievement and give you no GS for it, but if you don't get it as soon as you start the game, you'll never be able to get it. I don't know if you can delete everything C&C3 related from your HDD to get another shot at it, but I don't think I want to try.

There's also the fact that if you go through Hard difficulty getting all of the Bonus Ribbons, you'll get the achievement for beating the game with every Bonus ribbon on Hard, but you won't get Normal or Easy's achievements. Now, this is semi-justified because you have to complete every bonus objective, instead of just finishing the game, but it is still tedious to do. At least Easy and Normal gives you practice if you do them first, and it gets much easier if you do Hard first, however it still takes ages and it can get very hard in some missions, though. Operation: Stiletto on Hard, I'm looking at you.

Am I the only one who sees a paradox in achievements that require you to "Get all of the achievements"? If I have all of the other achievements, and the last achievement I have to unlock is unlocked when I unlock every achievement other than the achievement I have left to unlock, shouldn't I not be able to unlock that achievement because that achievement is unlocked when I unlock every achieve-- oh no, I've gone cross-eyed.

Additionally, I absolutely hate any achievements that require me to play matchmade online multiplayer. If you've ever been on Xbox Live, you know why.

The Spellslinger achievement on Magic the Gathering. You just have to defeat someone who has that achievement, and the thing is worth zero points. Yeah, an achievement worth no points... what's the point?

Ok, here's one for you: what do you consider the worst achievements (or trophies)any game has ever had?

There are some pretty awful ones out there and I'd firstly nominate the "Wax Off" achievement for Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, which seems deceptively simple but you'll be sat trying it over and over to the point where it becomes soul destroying monotony and, by the time you stare bleary-eyed at the screen and realise you've suddenly done it (after 2 hours of trying) you just won't care anymore.

Another kind of awful are the Eternal Sonata ones, which clearly took bugger all effort to devise. Pretty much all of them are secret ones, meaning you don't have any idea what you're meant to do to get them. A little digging aaaand.. you find out they're all for completing chapters of the game. I mean, that's IT? Even Infinite Undiscovery managed better than that.

So, achievements that are either mind numbingly hard to the point of dribbling insanity or are crushingly uninspired.

Aaaaand... GO!
the geometry wars won i know exactly what you mean..i literally sat there for fucking hours trying to do some of those, especially the wax off one, holy fucking balls that is so hard! i basically hate the fuck out of that game now...

i dont remember exactly..but any game where being in a leadboard top 10 online, i mean WTF? that basically means i gotta wait till this game is near extinct to have somewhat of a chance, since im not a haxzor or a supa pro player

All the people saying WoW are right, those things take months to acheive, infact, there's one achievement I think where you need two items, and you can get one of them a year, so you literally need to play a minimum of 1 year to get it. I don't think anyone has even gotten all the achievements.
there is some guy who did somewhere..like a month ago it was a article in the escapist i believe, so if you searchbar it you might find it, the guy "technically" beat it

Forza 3's "earn over 100k drift points in a single lap"-achievement. Not necessarily a bad achievement, it just drives me totally insane because 1) I'm a completionist when it comes to Forza and 2) I simply cannot drift.

I don't know about "ever" in a game, but in general I think the checkpoint achievements are pretty lame and fruitless. I'm talking about when you do something in a game, that absolutely has to be accomplished or you cannot continue the story in any way.
For example in Shadow Complex at the very beginning you have to destroy a helicopter. You HAVE TO. It is the only way to beat the first level and start the game, but there is an achievement for it.
It rewards you for doing something so mundane. I feel an achievement should be...well, an achievement. Something you achieve, that is off the beaten path, that takes effort.
Those checkpoint ones leave me so unfulfilled.
Whereas something like a Completionist achievement?
Frak, yeah.

Then how did someone get it in the first place? =S

OT: The time achievements for Garry's Mod. Who could spend a year of their life in that game?

Too Human had an achievement for dying 100 times.

A FUCKING ACHIEVEMENT.

FOR DYING.

But it is really not surprise, seeing as you die every two minutes in that game.
I dunno, I kind of like achievements you get for dying, mostly because I often die an embarrassing amount, and some kind of consolation prize is kind of nice.

The getting your first pip-boy and escaping the vault achievements in fallout 3 were pretty pointless. Plus a lot of the achievements in that game were linked to the main storyline. As long as you finished the main quest you received like half of the achievements.

Beautiful Katamari's play for 100 and 200 hour achievements.... I don't have the time tbh.
Also Perfect Dark Zero and Last Remnant have time consuming achievements

The developers have it initially then go online and play some people so they then get the achievement. It then spreads from there.

I'm a fan of chapter achievements as it helps me see how much more I've got. The only reason I stuck with Halo 3 was because when it started to piss me off, I could see I was on the 2nd to last chapter so decided to keep trying. Never did finish it though. Stupid Flood.

Edit: As someone who hates multiplay games unless its with mates, any game where you have to play online to get achievements annoys me especially if its supposed to be mainly a single player game *glares at Bioshock 2*

Start of a New Era (Soul Calibur IV) - Awarded for watching the game's opening cutscene. Pretty ridiculous to call something so frivolous an "achievement". It's like giving someone an award for having the patience to sit through a traffic light.
Serious? You get an achievement from watching the opening??? Aren't achievemnts meant to be something you're supouse to get through duing something, ANYTHING?
When did achievemnts get so lame. It sounded like such a great consept when it was new.

Probably been said but any game that awards an achievement for not skipping the end credits, I can't put my finger on the game that did that to me at the moment, but it was a ballache.

Oh, the game "Achievement Unlocked" is great. Just a few clues to what they are, and you have to unlock 100 achievements as fast as possible.
It's the king of useless achievements.
