Pretty much all achievements that don't reward you with anything else aside from the achievement.

Like in Mass effect 1, some of the achievements had in-game rewards to actually motivate you to get them.

Battlefield 2 for the ps2 has achievements for everything. like free-falling for 10m, free-falling for 25m, free-falling for 50m. You get the idea.

This isn't so much a bad achievement as it is a frustrating one.

In Battlefield Bad Company 1, there was an acheivement called "One in a Million" and it was given to those who had shot down a helicopter using a predator missile in multiplayer. I did it once, and only once. unfortunately, that was before achievements were released for the game. :/
Actually, I got that in single player BEFORE I got xbox live.

Neighbourhood watch in HL2 Ep2. Stop any buildings being destroyed during the strider assault. Impossible because:
1) You have to kill about 3 hunters before taking on the strider else they'll shoot off your magnusssons. Not to mention there are a fuckload of striders to take down, each with a herd of hunters. Sometimes you have to take on more than one... I think you do 3 at once in the final bit.
2) You have to keep going back to base to find magnussons as you can only carry one at a time for some ridiculous arbitrary reason (I mean he has already got a crowbar, the gravity gun, two handguns, a machine gun, a pulse rifle, a shotgun, a crossbow, an RPG, some grenades AND ammo for all those).
3) The way they scale the difficulty is such that if you do better it becomes harder exponentially. So you have to be exponentially better than any normal person playing the game. This means that even on easy difficulty it's fucking ridiculous.
An achievement that is actually a challenge? Is not possible!
I kid I kid, that one is a little over the top in difficulty, but is possible if you dedicate yourself to it.

I hate achievements like, "Play a ranked online match with ten friends." Now I don't add randoms to my friends list, so it is limited to people I actually know. Even those people don't share the same tastes of games. What is more annoying is in the middle of one of those games someone declares, "Hey guys, I am gonna invite you all to my friends list so I can get the achievement."

It is not a challenge, it is not original, it is not fun to go for. Don't create achievements like that.

Achievements for completing a chapter. Congratulations, you did something most people would have done anyway.
To be honest though I failed those ones quite badly on Eternal Sonata - I couldn't be arsed to get past chapter 4.
Looking at the game, I don't think that's your fault.

There is one game that has an achievement for pressing the start button.
The simpsons game has that one, as a joke against easy achievements.

The Avatar (the last airbender) game.

200G- Get a 10 hit combo
200G- Get a 20 hit combo
200G- Get a 30 hit combo
200G- Get a 40 hit combo
200G- Get a 50 hit combo

Yes, that is all 1000G that you could get in the tutorial.

Now thats what i call lazy. They were not even bothered to give them smart names.
It's a video game about a TV show.

Did you really expect it to be the LEAST bit good?

I'd have to agree with the achievements for completing a chapter being pretty bad. Other than that, story rewards can be pretty annoying, like the
"Master of Removing" achievement you get for removing Wesker's mind-controlling device from Jill in Resident Evil 5, even if it was pretty funny to those of us who remembered the "Master of unlocking" jokes from back in the day.
Aren't we presumably going to get through the story anyway? Why do we need achievements for it?
Those ones are truly annoying. On Metroid Prime Trilogy there's an achievement for escaping from the ship you're on. That is really simple and one of the things even thoe one who give up in the start usually completes.
There are the crazy ones that are impossible too, ot winning an online match. Bomberman live got one where you have to win an online match and everyone has to wear princess costumes, one requires a lot of wins and no deaths.
I still think the ones you would get anyway are worse though...

In FairyTale Fights (don't ask me why I played it; at least I didn't buy the game), the trophy's name is "Lazy Bastard", or something like that. It's won by...drum-roll please...sitting in the village for fifteen minutes without doing anything. You're rewarded for NOT playing the game.

That's the point of the achievement. When you go online developer's can check to see how far players got in their games and make changes to later ones.

I really detest the ones you get for either starting the game or completing the tutorial of the game.
As for the beating the game achievements, I suppose there is some good to those if you have a skeptical friend who never believes you when you tell you beat a game. At last, proof!
Some achievements, like ones you get from watching someone else do something, are pretty bad in my opinion. Needless item hunting with no other benefit than to score an achievement stink, too.

Now, if you want to talk about a game full of really lousy achievements, try looking for This Is The Only Level, or the sequel, This Is The Only Level TOO.

I just hope what they learn from that is NOT "make the game half as long", hehehe.

They need to make the real life achievement "Convinced her she slipped and fell on it."

I absolutely hate "complete the game" achievements. It's not an achievement! It's what I've been trying to do! it's the entire point of buying the f*cking game!
I disagree here to an extent, simply because of all the unfinished games I have.

Ditto for the chapter achievements some people talk about, for similar reasons.

Oddly I don't think it's unique to me either.

I scored all the achievements in Enchanted Arms just for working through the normal game. That's pathetic.

I think get the 5 hit combo in Batman Arkham Asylum was piss easy. All you have to have to get that achievement is at lease 1/10000000 of a brain to comprehend that x is attack.
