Sorry Nic, but being quirky and odd doesn't make you interesting/competent. Too bad he plays the exact opposite H.I. McDunnough in all of his latest movies. That is to say he plays a smug, globe-trotting know-it-all. I've even gotten to calling his movies "Nicolas Cage Knows Everything" movies.

I do really hope Tim Burton decides to act in one of his movies one day. Then I'll be able to call that godawful goth fuckstick the worst actor today.

Michael Cera. I don't know, there's just something about him that is so. eh. I can't remember when I've seen him do anything other than limp ineffectual droning. I remember watching Scott Pilgrim and constantly thinking "I should love this", all but one of the characters and action scenes where funny and well written, I could feel that this was a movie all but tailor made for me.

Except I wanted to punch Cera in the mouth. He was just a big lump of hum drum boringness amidst all the quirky and surreal setting.

I think because I've put a bit of thought into how much he bugs me, I may be blowing it out of proportion, but he's as close to a male version of Kristen Stewart you're going to get.


I'm going to stick out my neck for Worthington and say I don't think he's terrible, but the roles he plays don't help him break out his mold much. He's pretty much typecast whitebread All American Hero who is always right and never does any wrong.

I don't dislike him as much as Cera though, since Worthington's characters tend to bore, opposed to provoking hostility in me.

Lena Headey. She knows exactly one expression, something I've dubbed "the frown of eternal maternal rejection".
Her portrayal of Cersei Lannister lacks any of the passion and lust for power she displays in the book. She constantly seems annoyed to even be on the set, and I get the feeling that we, as the viewers echo that sentiment - we want to watch Joffrey, whose kid actor actually knows how to portray someone who enjoys the fuck out of the power he wields. Yeah, obviously Cersei is nowhere as unhinged as her son and is still nursing some issues from her marriage with Robert, but really, she never manages to capture my interest despite being a major player in a win-or-die game over the fate of an entire continent.

I know I'm in a tiny tiny minority with this, but I hate Meryl Streep in every movie she's in. Sure, I haven't seen many of the older movies that she rakes in Oscar nom after Oscar nom for, but still, of the few I've seen, she's just unbearable.

I also can't stand the standbys of Megan Fox and Sarah Jessica Parker as well as Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez, but especially Meryl Streep.

For guys...Taylor Lautner is trash, Nic Cage hasn't been good for ages (I'll allow he was once alright), and Hugh Jackman is terrible. Good lord, Hugh Jackman is terrible

You're only including a few of those elements for each of the movies. Please explain to me how ALL of those films fit your rather specific formula. What's more, he has fairly a different personality in each of those films. Heck, in Face Off and Adaptation he plays two different characters (sort of) in each movie. It sounds more like you're just trying to shoehorn those films in to meet your own preconceived notions. I'll give you the slightly eccentric bit, as he does tend to have eccentricities in most films he plays in. However, given that those eccentricities and the way they're portrayed vary significantly from character to character, it's not as though that's the most damning thing that could be said about an actor.

Sorry, you can't expect me to take the time to do anything you're accusing me of being bias about; that's rather self defeating waste of time. You like him, I don't and gave reasons. You disagree, now we can move on with our lives.

It would probably be easier to just say "his characters in those films don't all fit that narrow formula", which would be an accurate statement.

If that's really the interpretation you are gathering from my response, so be it. Your accusations of my bias color your conclusions beyond reproach; I am incapable of demonstrating my position to you without fallacy given the inferred premise. IE, my opinion is simply wrong and there's not a god damned thing I can say otherwise. So why continue discussing it with you? Good day sir.

I never said that's the interpretation I gathered from your response. Also, that's really not much of a rebuttal, just sort of a bad dodge. You're presuming that because I accused you of bias that I'm suddenly I'm incapable of impartially viewing your defenses. That's not true at all, my initial accusation having been a result of merely taking the logical next step when analyzing how you might have convinced yourself that all of these very different roles somehow fit your very specific criteria. I honestly don't care if you think that a sound argument wouldn't sway my opinion, you'd be wrong about that too. However, it's clear you can't make a sound argument in this case, because a psychopathic hedonist who did little more than murder people and then die obviously doesn't match up to a few of those things on your list, thus falsifying the application of said list to all of Cage's roles (and that's just one character from Face Off).

Well...I hate Daniel Craig as an actor. His version of Jason Bourne James Bond is just dreadful.

You may not like the portrayal of Bond he shows in these films, but that's also down to the writers and directors, who wanted to mix it up a bit.
His other films, such as Layer Cake, show how good an actor this man really is.

I thought Keanu Reaves was supposed to the most well know for being bad, but then he hasnt been in anything for like 15 years so I guess he doesn't count.

Personally I wouldn't know cos I have the gift of not being able to tell the difference between a really good and a really shit actor. It all just looks the same to me. I was gonna make a thread ages ago to see how many other people have this but never bothered.

I can't believe some of these choices here. Seriously, out of all the talentless stars getting cast in generic movies, people choose Jack Black? You may not like his style, but at least the man has charisma, more than can be said about Sam Worthington, Shia LeBeouf, Keanu Reeves, etc.

This CAN work to an actors advantage though, like Jason Statham who plays Jason Statham in all his roles and is damn good at it.

OT: Kris Pine is forgettable and has the stage presence of the Invisible Man. There are worse actors, but I don't keep enough up to date with movies to make such judgements.
