BB guns do have the one fun feature of being loaded with a crapton of bullets per magazine, so you can pour shot after shot after shot into some schmuck's head before needing to reload. I had a blast using one in New Vegas, on my Hardcore character who was otherwise entirely unarmed/melee.

Not disagreeing that it's a crappy weapon (though I killed a lot of squishier enemies with it), but it's at least kind of a hilarious one to use in spite of that.

The Bubble Gun from Earthworm Jim 2.

It can't kill enemies. It has no in-game use. It just blows bubbles.
This is what I immediately thought of.

What's worse, at least in the Genesis version, is that you can't switch away from it if it's acquired. You have to use up the ammo.

I thought the sniper rifle was pretty good, put enough puts into being a sniper and you can kill everything in one to two shots (depending on difficulty) and hold the rifle steady.

Klobb, Goldeneye64 (mandatory mention)

All of the Unreal series infinite ammo weapons were pretty poor, especially the recharging pistol from Unreal 1.

The crystal shard from System Shock 2 - so useless
The Crystal shard's awesome, equip it with adrenaline and you can kill everything except robots in one to two hits.

I'm going to have to go with that pogo stick from the Megaman 2 in the gameboy series, the thing lasted about four attacks and usually you'd still get hit by the enemies you were trying to jump on, it even uses energy when you are just walking with it equipped.

The reason you can't hold it steady is because you lack the points in the relevant skill. The Mass Effect sniper is incredibly powerful.

The Halo plasma pistol is also extremely useful. Not as a direct killer, but the question was about pointless weapons, and it has several vital uses.

Fallout 3 and NewVegas - The BB gun, literally only good for killing radroaches, that can be killed with one hit of anything.
The anabel BB gun can go 104 damage, comparable to a sniper. THe rolling pin is clasified as useless because even on vary easy mode it cant oneshot the weakest enemy in Fallout new vagas.

Off the top of my head?

KSG from Blops 2 (seriously, why the fuck is it a slug gun?)
It could oneshot from 31 meters and wallbang on core. It was a mid range sniper rifle.

No love for the Bio Rifle from the UT series? Instant switch back to the starting pistol if I grabbed that one.

Grenades from Worms too, though that is specifically in my hands. I CANNOT land a decent grenade to save my life in that game.

I enjoyed using the bio rifle actually. Maybe I'm just a freak or something, but I liked it and put it to decent use. Granted it isn't my first choice weapon (flak cannon takes that piece of cake) but I was able to put it to good use.

And yea, almost never used the grenades, always used rockets.

Anything that wasn't an explosive in Red Faction 2
Why's that?

Grenade launcher, assault rifle with grenade launcher, bouncy/sticky grenade shotgun, rocket launcher, grenade, fire grenade, satchel charge grenade

^ these are common weapons in a deathmatch game, very common, so an assault rifle or pistol? What were you going to do against these one hit kills? Minus the sniper rifle or rail gun which were instant kills at any range and any body part.

Hotline Miami has a bottle, I don't know why it is in the game but you 'unlock' it (so it starts randomly spawning instead of real weapons) you can't melee with it , if you miss it still breaks and i'm not even sure if it kills a target when it hits them, meanwhile you can throw any other weapon to knock people over and kill them while they on the ground, or shoot them, or punch them over and kill them on the ground without a weapon, melee weapons are insta-kills aswell. Not to mention enemies are normally in groups and you die in one hit so this just sucks.
I believe this one gives a decent score bonus if used for an assassination. But then again, considering the mantis mask (and drill) is easily unlocked, this added function seems redundant.

On the topic of assassinations, all the faction reward unlockables in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. They're utterly terrible compared to freely available gear and take a serious amount of work to procure.

I LOVED that mask! Got almost all A+ ranks with it since it gives you so many points when you pull it off. Just gets tricky in a crowded room.

I seem to recall an RPG where a boss enemy had to be defeated with a sword that had stats significantly lower than the one I was already using. I tried the better sword & sure enough the special sword was the only thing that would kill it. The sword had no further use after that.

Your sword in Lagoon for the SNES. Its like 2 pixels long, and scaled to your character its like attacking with your pinky finger.

Its easier to hit things in Y's 1, and you didn't even have an attack animation in that game you just ran into enemies and hoped for the best.

So basically it became the equivalent of throwing a piece of kryptonite at Batman. I hate games that pull that crap.

EDIT: Oh and the fucking Sanctus. Shield that is meant to regenerate your health, in reality does something like 2HP per 2 seconds and doesn't even heal out poison. Any health regen effects on weapons in Dark Souls are fairly useless, but the Sanctus doesn't even have 100% block, so you'll probably take more damage by not using a better shield than you'll heal thanks to its regen. Shields can be weapons.
I just have it as the secondary shield and swap to it when I think I've cleared most of an area out and don't want to waste an Estus Flask if I've taken damage.

OT: Can we include novelty weapons? Because the Foam Sword in World of Warcraft is pretty useless.

If not, then... maybe the Wookiee Bowcaster in any Star Wars FPS? Yeah, I know they've got that multi-shot charge, and have shots that can rebound, but the spread on the charge is wider than a Flechette Launcher and the rebound is hard as hell to aim properly. Pretty terrible damage output comparative to other weapons, too...

Not that the Bryar Blaster Pistol was any better, but it feels a little more natural and iconic, as the default weapon for the Chuck Norris of the Star Wars universe.

The banana in Road Rash 64. It did nothing except make the person hit by it embarrassed (indicated by the word 'embarrassed' appearing on the screen when they were hit) .

I'm going to have to go with the Spy-cicle from Team Fortress 2.
Seeing as a ton of weapons have no back-stab sound, and it can be melted by the Spy coming in contact with fire.

Oh, and to My name is Fiction, you're a positive person, I like you.

Whatever that gun in Fallout 3 was called that hurled whatever loose objects happened to be around at the enemies. It was pretty funny to hurl random garbage at enemies, but it wasn't overly useful.

I'm no number cruncher by any means, but as I recall clubs of any sort in the Baldur's Gate games were worthless as they had low damage, more or less useless enchants, and none of them (as I remember) got above +4 so they were unable to kill bosses and even some normal monsters.

The Thirtyeight from Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (Anyone else remember that game?)

Without a doubt in my mind, the absolute worst non-joke weapon in any game. Everything about it is terrible. The accuracy, the damage, hell, even the firing rate sucked. You are literally better off just running up to enemies and using your bare fists in every single encounter when that piece of crap is your only available ranged combat option.
Guns in that game in general suck up until you get to Hollywood, but even then, that is the absolute worst of the bunch.
