Red Orchestra had a single-shot anti-tank rifle. Only side or rear hits are worthwhile, it needs to be set up to fire, it only features iron sights and its so loud that just firing the thing is a death sentence. Can be effective when you really need some enemy armor dead and don't have any of your own, but its a complete pain to use (even for RO) and even more of a pain protecting the shooter from all the guys who'll want him dead as soon as he fires.
Battlefield 3 used to have lots of good guns and a bunch of gamebreaker guns. Now it has lots of good guns and a bunch of crap guns. Half of the machine guns are just better than the other half. M240 is a better Type 88, MG36 is a better QBB.
Modern Warfare 2 was king of pointless weapons, probably one of the reasons I hated it so much. Weapon balance was a complete atrocity. Why use a semi-automatic pistol when you can pack an automatic with the same damage and a bigger magazine or a shotgun that can snipe people? Why use a heavy as fuck, difficult to control (for CoD) LMG when you can use a much lighter, easier to use assault rifle that is better in every way that matters? This wasn't just a case of crappy gun here, a good gun there, entire categories of weapons were practically worthless, pistols, LMGs, SMGs aside from broken as hell UMP and dual P90.
In Halo CE the only worthwhile gun 90% of the time was the auto sniper pistol. From Halo 2 onwards anything that was headshot capable was better than everything else. While its somewhat understandable as it featured the same sort of 'start with crap guns, find better guns on map' deal as arena shooters, this became utterly ridiculous in Halo 4 with the create a class system. Why pick any of the weak as piss automatics when you can use a precision weapon that hits like a truck, can easily nail someone halfway across the map and can even reliably beat the non-precision loadout weapons within their effective ranges?
I suppose the crown would have to go to the Halo 2 magnum. With its weak as hell bullet damage, nonexistent melee damage, relatively small mag and low max ammo capacity, aside from headshotting Grunts (which other guns do better) there is just no practical use for the thing whatsoever.
Holy crap how the mighty had fallen.
